"Why don't you go in first Nico? After all, you're the one who's got a knife here." I said. He smirked at me.
"What? You can kill a bloodthirsty girl but you can't open a door? You're such a coward Oni."
"Does it look like I care? And besides, I only did that to save my life, idiot. I didn't actually want to do that." I said. He shrugged and opened the door. It was pitch black in there. Nico put his hand in there. At first, nothing happened. Then he got pulled in there. We all screamed.
Nico came back, laughing so hard that tears were streaming down his face. "I can't believe you guys fell for it!" He said, wiping his tears.
"That's not funny at all! What if you actually got caught? How would we tell your parents what happened?" Mune said.
"Whatever. Come on, it's clear." He said. We all entered the next room, Jay in the rear. The door shut behind us. We all looked at our friend.
"Did you do that Jay?" I asked him.
"After what happened? Yeah right. Like I would." He said. A light turned on in the middle of the room. Below it was a table and sitting on it was uncle Yuri, Nico's dad. Or it looked like him. I couldn't tell. Nico's face immediately turned pale when he saw him.
"Nico, what are you doing here? You should be at home in bed." Yuri said. He sounded just like him. I thought we were so busted now that he was here.
"You're not him. My father never gave a damn what I did for so many years. What's the point of starting now?" He said, his voice was confident. Yuri's face grew dark, yet his face remained grim.
"For ten years I let you do what you want to see how long you could last. I was a fool. Come on now Nico, let's go home." He said, showing his hand to his son.
He slapped it away. He took out his knife and ran towards Yuri, stabbing him in the stomach. We all stared at him, wide-eyed. "You're lying. My father never calls me Nico. He always calls me Senshi. You would've known that if you were him."Nico said. Yuri became angry. We all stepped back as he transformed. His body acted like a bubble, his skin exploding with pieces of what we thought were uncle Yuri and puddles of blood.
I looked away at the horrifying sight. The demon had wings so big it dragged as he walked, his skin black as ink. The irises were red, the white part of the eyes black, just like the demon girl we encountered before. And worse of all, it was covered in the remains of blood and skin.
"I knew it wasn't dad,but I didn't expect that the real person would be a demon." He said.
"Uh guys, what do we do now?" Mune said in a weak voice.
"Run. Definitely run." Jay said, turning around.
"Negative. This thing will chase us if we leave. And I don't think we'll be able to stop him." I said, backing up a bit more.
"We have to kill it." Nico said.
"Do you see the size of that thing? How in the world are we supposed to kill it?!" Jay said.
"If you haven't noticed Jay, our only exit is through that door -" he said pointing at the door behind the demon. "-because as soon as we entered this room, the door behind us disappeared."Sure enough, our only way of getting through this house was to kill the demon.
"Okay, I guess that makes sense. But we have one problem." Mune said.
"Which is?" I asked him.
"The knife is inside him. Her. It. Whatever it is, but that was our only weapon." he said, pointing at the knife that was in the gut.
"So? We got Oni! And you're at black belt for karate right?" Nico asked me, dodging as the demon tried to grab him.
"Why does it matter what belt I'm on for karate?!" I cried as I ducked as the demon swung it's tail at me.
"I think what Nico is trying to say is that you could distract the beast as he gets the knife from the demon!" Mune yelled over the demon's screeching.
"Why me?!"
"If Jay was great at karate like you, I would've asked him. But he's not. He's just an idiot who decided to be our friend." Nico said.
"Hey!" Jay said. Nico ignored him. I groaned. I ran to the demon and kicked it hard in the jaw. It recoiled, holding its jaw. As it did, I took the knife from the gut and threw it to Nico.
"Catch!" I yelled to him. He caught it with surprise. He looked at me and his eyes widened.
"Look out!" He yelled at me. I turned around and regretted it immediately. As I did, the demon's tail whacked me in the face and I was thrown across the room. Pain shot through my body as I fell beside Mune. I could hear him echoing my name as I did. The last thing I saw was Nico stabbing the demon in its head.
~~~
"Wake up!" Nico yelled at me. I jolted up, startled by the sound and accidentally hitting Jay in the head.
"Ow! What did you do that for?" He asked me, rubbing his forehead. Nico rolled his eyes.
"You've been unconscious for some time." Mune said, looking around to see if any monster was going to pop out of nowhere. He was covered in a black substance. In fact, we all were, including myself.
"Where's the demon?" I asked, trying to get up despite the throbbing feeling in my head.
"Oh, that? Nico killed it by stabbing the knife in the heart." Jay piped up.
"Now I regret doing that." Nico said, looking at the black substance on him.
"Apparently, stabbing it in the heart not only kills it, the whole body explodes." Mune thought aloud.
Jay got up and walked to the other side of the room. "Hey guys, check it out. That freaky demon left us a note." He said. We all looked at him, confused. I got up and read the note in his hands.
"'Having fun yet? Look underneath the table for a little gift.'" We looked at each other. Nico took out his knife, ready in case anything attacked us. Mune bent down underneath the table and grabbed something.
"Huh." he said, getting up.
"Woah! Be careful where you're pointing that thing!" Jay said, hiding behind me. In Mune's hands was a gun. Nico grabbed it from him and threw it to the other side of the room. We all stared at him. There was silence for a while.
"Let's find the backyard and get out of here as fast as we can. Alright?" He asked us. We all slowly nodded. He looked at Jay.
"You open the next door." He said.
"Like hell I would!" He said angrily to him. I frowned as they argued for what seemed like hours.
"The door's locked. Looks like we're stuck here." Mune said, trying the door. I walked over to the other side of the room and picked up the gun. That got Nico's attention.
"What are you doing?" He asked me. I didn't listen. When I was in front of the door, I put the gun in front of the lock and pulled the trigger.
It was a quick yet loud sound, one that pierced through all our ears. For two seconds that was all we heard. I dropped the gun and covered my ears, but that seemed to do nothing. Then there was silence. Nico walked up to me and grabbed the gun at my feet before I could.
"You are not keeping this." He said, putting it in his pocket. He opened the door and to my surprise, it was the backyard door. A lot of people must've come to the Solstace house, because there were about a thousand graves in the backyard. Jay looked at Nico.
"Still think you can find a scarier house than this Nico?" He murmured. Nico ignored him and turned to us.
"This is where we part, and we will pretend that this never happened, alright?" He said. We all nodded. Despite how confident he acted, I could hear a bit of fear in his voice. With that, we all ran to our homes.
