Chapter 3 - So that's magic?...cool.

After calling himself sir Henn, Jason found that he quite liked this new name. In fact, if he was to be calling himself this new name, he would go all the way. This was the new him, from now on he was going to be the knight Henn... Henn, what? He decided that he would figure out this detail later, for know he had a lizardman to kill.

"So the little brocata wants to fight, does he?" the lizardman said entertained by Henn's enthusiasm, "Very well I, Topothad, the warlock of the of the Keish clan, will take pleasure in killing you."

Meanwhile, Jess sat on the floor and stared at Henn in shock, and perhaps even admiration. She couldn't understand why he would put his life on the line for someone who had just tried to sell him to lizardmen. Jess began to feel that this man was by far the most fearless human she had ever met.

Until he turned his head revealing his pale face, she then realized that he wasn't fearless. No, what he was showing her was something much more dangerous, something that she had seen only a few times in the past two hundred years of her life. Courage.

Henn knew that what he was trying to do was most likely suicide. It was the bank scene all over again. Yet again he was facing an impossible task, and this time the opponent wasn't there for the money. This time his opponent's only objective was to snuff out Henn's life.

While trying to find a reason for him not to run he looked behind him and saw Jess still sitting on the ground. However, she was no longer shaking nor crying, she was staring at Henn with a certain strength in her blue eyes. Seeing this Henn let out a light chuckle.

Was he the reason? If he was, would he disappoint her if he lost this fight? More than that, was it possible for him to win. None that really mattered to Henn anymore. At this point, his choices were either fight or die, and the former was very much more agreeable than the latter.

Suddenly, Topothad began to suck in a deep breath. Henn could see the lizardman's chest inflate like a balloon until it was at least twice as large as when the inhalation had started. Then, surprisingly the middle of Topothad's chest began to start glowing a dim orange color; However, it began growing bigger and brighter. That's when Henn was tackled to the floor.

"Are you an idiot," Jess yelled at a very confused Henn, "why weren't you moving. I thought we were both going to be burned to death."

Upon hearing these words Henn became even more confused. In order to make him understand Jess pointed towards the spot where he was just standing, it was now on fire, so was most of the floor between the two and the lizardman. As soon as he saw this scene he understood that it was the power of a warlock. As Henn stood up he couldn't help but form an expression of amazement.

Topothad noticed the expression on Henn's face and asked, "Have you never seen magic before little chaptoo?" Henn shook his head, "That's too bad, now you'll never get to see it again."

After saying this the large lizardman charged at Henn. Henn, not really knowing what to do reached for Jess's side and pulled her knife out of its holster, and just in time too, because as soon as he turned around he saw a large purple-scaled fist coming towards his face. Luckily, Henn had just enough time to raise his arms to block it; However, once the fist came into contact with his arms Henn knew he should have dodged.

He knew because the force of the punch launched him at least two feet, and made him fall on his back. Then, before he had a chance to process how much his body hurt, a giant purple foot came rushing at his face. Henn moved his head reflexively, and then remembering the knife gripped in his hand, he shoved it deep into the lizardman's calf.

"Dushkill!!" Togothad yelled.

Angered he looked down at Henn and roared. The lizardman then quickly grabbed him by the neck choking him. Henn began grabbing the monster's arm, struggling to free himself. Then Togothad began taking a deep breath, Henn began to lose hope at this moment. Then he remembered one way out, he kicked the lizardman's left leg, the same leg that he had stabbed earlier.

Togothad threw Henn away and yelled at the ceiling, burning it with his magic fire. Seeing this spectacle Henn thought of an idea, a very stupid idea. He asked himself, what's stopping me from creating my own fire, and so he picked himself up from the floor and took a deep breath.

Once he had inhaled all the air he could and imagined his lungs becoming a stove top, igniting gas. Then feeling his body become warmer, Henn exhaled in the direction of Togothad, and what happened surprised all three of the people in the cellar, especially Henn.

As soon as Henn exhaled, extremely hot blue flames rushed toward Togothad. As soon as the lizardman saw them he knew they were much hotter than his own, and excepted his death immediately as the flames consumed him.

As he screamed from the pain of burning, Togorath remembered his life before the land was plunged into darkness. In fact, even though he couldn't say it he wanted to thank his killer because he could finally see his family again. Unfortunately, he didn't have the time he was already dead.

During the death of the lizardman Henn had slowly closed the distance between him and it, and seeing the now motionless body burning within blue flames he couldn't help but be amazed by himself. Henn had no idea how he had created those flames, he was just some low-level hero.

How could he possibly have done magic, how could he have killed something so strong? Questions similar to these crossed his mind for quite some time, until he was brought back to reality, or maybe back to his dream, by a crying Jess.

"Thank you, thank you," she ran at him and hugged him, "thank you sir Henn."

After hearing Jess call him sir Henn he remembered once again where he was. This was someplace new, a world with different rules, a world of magic and strange creatures. If he was to survive Henn would need to learn how this new world worked, but first he would need to leave this cellar.

"Hey..." Henn started to speak but was cut off by Jess sobbing on his chest.

"Sir Henn you are the bravest human I've ever seen."

Hearing this confused Henn. Why did she use the word human? That's when he noticed her ear, it was sticking out from her long hair. Her ear was pointed.

"Um, excuse me, Jess," Henn began, "I hate to seem rude, but why is your ear like that."

"What do you mean?" Jess asked.

"I mean, why is your ear pointed?"

"Oh, you didn't know already? I'm an elf." Jess smiled up at him.
