"You're an elf!" Henn yelled confused.
"Yea got a problem with it," Jess said sounding a bit hurt by Henn's reaction.
"No, no, of course not," Henn said trying to reassure Jess, "it's just I've never met one before."
"Wait, you've never met an elf?"
"Nope, I've only ever met humans."
"That's impossible, everyone knows that the houses of royals are full of slaves from almost every race," Jess said in disbelief, "Who were your parents."
"Well, I've never met my father..."
"What! if you've never met you're father how did you become a knight."
"What do you mean?" Henn replied confused once again.
"You mean you don't even know about the ceremony?"
Henn could only stand there staring at Jess silently. Watching as she fell deeper into thought and confusion.
"Wait, then how did you use magic? Only the most intelligent humans can use magic, and even then only the court wizards are allowed to."
"Why can only the most intelligent use magic?" Henn said slightly praising himself.
"You don't know that either!" Jess yelled while dropping to the ground into a fetal position, regretting ever thinking well of this complete imbecile. That's when they heard a commotion coming from around the corner. Both Henn and Jess realized that it must have been the warlock's friends.
"We need to go," Henn stated urgently, "Is there another way out of this cellar."
"Sure, but I doubt we'll be able to get through in that condition," Jess answered while rising from her position on the floor.
However, after noticing that the sound of claws scraping across the wooden floor of the cellar entrance Henn moved towards the dead body of Togothad and pulled the knife out of the lizardman's leg. The handle was warm, but to Henn's surprise, there was no evidence of burning. He would have questioned this but he was to busy thinking about getting out of the cellar.
"I can make it," Henn said looking at the knife he just pulled out of Togothad. Then he moved the knife to his other hand and held out by the blade. He looked up at Jess, "lead the way, elf girl."
Jess scoffed at Henn and took the knife by the handle placing it back in its holster, "I guess I can't just let the man who saved my life die, now can I, this way." Jess started running deeper into the cellar until she reached a dark corner of the cellar that smelled like something died and was thrown in a trash bag full of manure. In other words, it was horrible, but Henn had no choice but to follow.
Jess slowed down and came to a stop at the worst smelling part of the cellar. Then she bent over and picked up what seemed to be a wooden grate. After standing back up she pointed at the hole which the grate was covering, "Get in."
Before Henn could protest a loud yell came from behind him, "You little Convara, you will pay with your kanta." Hearing this, Henn forgot about the smell and claimed down the hole followed by Jess who covered the hole with the grate once she had climbed in.
It was pitch black and smelled worse than it did above, but it was safer than being cornered by lizardmen. "Man, I wish we had a light at least."
"Then make one," Jess said matter of factly.
"What do you mean 'make one'?"
"I meant what I said, make yourself a light."
"Yeah...uhuh...okay. How do I do that?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot that you're an idiot," Jess said with a chuckle, "but since I'm such a good friend I'll tell you how..."
"Good friend? Didn't you just try to sell me to a group of con-men?" Henn said slightly annoyed.
"The past is the past, and the future has just begun, so do you want to learn magic or not?"
"Fine, teach me some magic oh wise elf girl."
Ignoring Henn's tone Jess started her lesson, "Okay, first close your eyes and hold out your hand. Then make a clear image of your hand in your mind."
Henn followed her instructions, "What's next."
"Next imagine a light in your hand, but not just a light imagine everything that makes up the light as well."
"'Kay like this," Henn began to image a ball of superheated gases forming in the palm of his hand, like a mini sun. Then he opened his eyes and there it was, in the palm of his hand he held a dimmed sun. Henn could not help but smile at his accomplishment.
Jess, however, looked even more amazed than Henn, "How could you possibly make that, not even a court wizard has enough knowledge to recreate the sun."
"Beginners luck," Henn shrugged then looked around the lit tunnel. It was a two-way tunnel with a door down one way and metal bars leading into the darkness down the other. The floor had a canal that reached the toes of Henn's sneakers. The walls of the tunnel were made completely of brick, and strangely there was a large, pink, and slimy looking thing on the floor near the metal bars.
It was about the exact size and width of Henn's arm. Curious, Henn tried to take a closer look. Then Jess yelled, "Don't..."
But it was too late. A large slit appeared on the front of the slimy thing revealing dozens of jagged teeth.
"Argh, argh... argh argh," the creature suddenly began barking, then just as suddenly, stopped.
Henn turned to Jess who now had turned pale as if horrified. "What was that?" Henn asked. But before he could get an answer a rumbling came from the direction of the metal bars. Then Jess started running.
