Chereads / The Writer and the Artist / Chapter 39 - Bangs-less face

Chapter 39 - Bangs-less face

Popcorns hit my head and I throw back some of mine at Lola, cackling evilly as it hits her eye. She blows raspberries at me, leaning back into Storm. "I swear guys, I didn't rip it that night!" Storm confesses, crossing his hand on his chest and I gasp.

"That is perjury! How dare you lie to everyone's face when the truth is plainly in your face!" I accuse, shoving shredded papers into his face and pointing an accusing finger at him.

"Babe, it's not perjury if we aren't in a court." Austin whispers, his hand running up mine and slowly lowering it. I roll my eyes and stuff my mouth with some popcorn. "Oh, I'm sorry Mr writer guy, if you haven't realised, I don't have as much vocab as you do." I huff and he chuckles, kissing my temple. I look at June and see that she's making kissy faces at me and I glare hard, flipping out my phone and tossing it to her after bringing up a picture of Cosmo. She blushes, her green hair bobbing as she shakes her head, she sends a quick glare at me before standing up and rushing off.

"What's the time?" Zayan murmurs, rubbing his eye as he sits up, holding Temi's arms. "10:38 pm, we better get going, I don't think I want your mom to have me for soup." Temi just rolls her eyes, standing up and pulling him. She looks at her twin and they boh yawn. Storm stands up, helping Lola up with him and he rests his jaw on her head.

"It's getting pretty late, I'll see you guys tomorrow." Lola yawns and waves at me. Temi sends me a kiss and I catch it, placing it over my heart and making a dreamy face. Zayan frowns and quickly steers her away. What can I say? I'm known to be the ladies charmer.

Adam moans as he stretches on the couch, his legs and arms spreading out like a cat would stretch, peeking one eye open and staring at Chase and Fayette. "Hey, why don't you take her to your room? It's pretty late already, and I don't think she's want to stay alone tonight." He tells Chase, running his hand through his hair. Chase looks down at her, shrugging and carrying her sleeping figure from her waist so her head is on his shoulder, yeah, she's that small.

Adam came back downstairs after Macy had passed out, he stayed with us for a few hours and then he was out, like the hairline on my cousin Derek.

He stretches again before standing up and following Chase and Fayette upstairs after nearly falling into Devin and May. I stare at my sister and see her smiling at Devin who looks like he might just kill Adam. Devin looks back at her and smiles, a little cute smile. "I should get going too, don't want ma staying up late for me again." He murmurs, May nods and smiles as he pecks her, ruffling his hair. He stands up and heads for the door but not before nodding at me and Austin.

The door closes and May relaxes back, closing her eyes for a short time, her bangs brushing her lids. She opens her eyes and catches me staring at her, then she stands up, muttering an awkward bye and rushing up the stairs. "So," Austin starts and I turn around to face him in a way that I'm straddling him.

"So," I continue, wrapping my arms around his neck, playing with his earlobe. It's so soft!

"What should we do?" He questions, his hands holding my waist. I shrug my shoulders, my thumb tracing his jawline. "I don't know about you mister, but I'm really sleepy." I hummed. He raises a brow, his smirk slipping into place.

"Is there room for one more?" He questions, leaning in. "Nope!" I chirp, smiling happily. His brows furrow and he leans back.

"You don't mean that!" He pleads and I still keep my smile in place. "I think you need to go home boy." I sang, rolling over so I'm lying like a starfish.

"You really want me gone?" He pouts, coming into my view and I roll my eyes.

"Yes, you're ruining my sleep time!"

I purse my lips, moving the paper in front of me further so I can see the drawing. God knows why he didn't make June the artist.

Kira flips through her wardrobe, throwing clothes on her bed and groaning. She's trying to find the perfect dress for her date with Alistair tonight, and I don't think she's anywhere next to deciding the dress.

"You know, you could be a loving sister and help me find something to wear tonight!" She cried, turning around to face me.

I spin in the chair, tapping my chin with my index finger. "Would you really want to go somewhere in the most comfy jumpsuit?" I ask and she makes a duh face, I groan and stand up, walking into her closet and picking out the jumpsuit I'd bought for her last Thanksgiving. I throw it at her and jump on her bed.

"Thank you." She snorts sarcastically, calling out for June. She pulls her hair out of its bun, sitting at her vanity just as June walks in, her short green hair not failing to shock me again. I never thought I'd see June with a different hair color, and length! The photoshoot must be really important for her to get a different hair entirely, and just to match her runway look. She could've easily gotten a wig, but she decided to go in full and natural, so unlike June.

Her hands clench and relax, her fingers playing with the ends of Kira's blonde hair. "So, what do you want?" She asks and I immediately step out, already getting shivers from the girly moment, I won't be surprised if June just pounces on me, grinning like a mad woman as she tugs at my hair, wanting to pull it into a horrifying braid.

I run down the stairs, afraid that June might just grab me back. I find myself in the kitchen, where mom is cutting some fruits. I steal one and kiss her cheek, chewing on the watermelon. Mom glares at me but it slowly disappears as she sees me grabbing a knife and washing my hands. I stand next to her, taking a half watermelon.

"How's it going with the Lord Jiraiya? I heard he took you on a date two night ago to the cheesiest, most romantic place, and the dinner went terribly wrong!" I snicker and she rolls her eyes. She eventually releases a snicker, cutting the watermelon fast.

"That'll teach him to never take me to any sort of cheesy romantic place for teenagers, he'll still have two weeks of sleeping on the room couch." She sniggers, taking a slice of pineapples and then she starts cutting it quickly.

"Where am I Chase?" I hear Fayette's trembling voice. I pause, looking at mom who has a tired look on her face. She grabs a napkin, wipes her hands on it and slowly takes off her apron. She walks to the living room, I wipe my hands on the napkin and follow her quickly, stopping right behind her when I see Chase standing a few feet away from her shaking body. She was visibly vibrating, clutching Chase's jacket to herself.

"What is going on?" Macy moans, coming down the steps with her belly right in front of her. She pauses when she sees Fayette and she starts walking slowly down. Adam comes out of his room, standing at the top of the stairs and looking down at the scene, his eyes holding a sad pain in them. Everyone else comes out, standing beside Adam. Brooke holds Uriah in her arms, cradling him to her chest, Ethan holds her waist, his face becoming sober. Every eye holds a sad and painful memory.

"Who the fuck are they, Chase?" She demands sternly, her green eyes striking.

"They are my family, Adam didn't let me drive home last night because it was getting late, and your parents aren't home, so you stayed over, now if you would just calm down, I promise, everything will be alright." Chase explains, taking a few steps towards her.

"I'm so tired! Tired of always waking up and seeing my boyfriend with people I don't know, people I might have loved and shared so many memories with, I'm so tired of always forgetting and waking up where I don't know, I'm tired of only keeping the memories of me forgetting but forget the moments that are meant to be treasured and remembered, I'm so tired!" She cries, sagging in Chase's arms, her sobs muffled by his shirt.

Mom sucks in a deep breath. "Everyone, get back to whatever you're doing, disappear I don't care, now!" She orders, her face stern. "And you, take her to your room, and when she's calm, you call for me, and only me." Chase nods and carries her up the stairs. Mom reaches for the couch and sits slowly on it, running her hand down her face.

"Why do I feel like I've failed?" Mom whispers softly, her hand pressed on her forehead.

"Mom,"

"I can't even help my son be happy, my daughter keeps forgetting and it keeps hurting my family, so what kind of a mother am I if I can't even keep my family from sadness? What exactly is my work if my children can't be happy with their lives?" She questions, her golden brown eyes staring down at mine.

"Mom, stop saying that! You don't have control over these things, so stop worrying and giving yourself stress lines over things that is out of anyone's control for now, look at the things that matter, the little things you've done in everyone's life that makes them your children. Now cheer up buttercup." I grin and she chuckles.

"It seems like lover boy is influencing your vocabulary."

"April, can you get he door for me please! Thank you my darling!" Macy yells from downstairs and I groan. Does she not know that I am being as lazy as a lazy Thursday, lying on my rough bed in my room. I throw my feet over my bed, indolently walking down the stairs.

There she is, lying down on the couch with a bowl of fruits safely in her hands and a box of chocolates placed next to her. She sees me and smiles sheepishly. "You do know that Adam is in the kitchen probably doing nothing?" I questioned, raising a brow.

"He's hunting for more food for me, come on, for me." She flutters her lashes and I groan, stomping towards the door. I pull it open and freeze when I see the new but familiar bangs-less face. "Guys! Guys!" I call and red stains her cheeks.

"Stop making me blush, Ap." She pushes past me, shuffling in to take off her shoes. Macy gasps as May enters the living room, then followed by a fork falling to the floor and then Adams loud and long gasp.

I see Devin jogging up to the house, his blonde hair in a frenzied mess. "You! What are you doing to my sister!?" I growl, my left eye twitching. He backs away, his eyes wide and his hands up in surrender.

"I didn't know about this either, I swear to you, all I know was that she called me to come pick her up and then bam, no bangs." He explains and I eye him a little more before relaxing and letting him in.

Macy hovers over May, her eyes still full of wonder as she touch her forehead. Adam just sits next to them, his hands under his jaw and his head shaking. Kira comes downstairs, her hair already set and her jumpsuit perfectly in place, she did take a lot of time to get ready. She was on her phone, coming down the stairs and when she reaches the living room, she gasps and her phone nearly falls out of her hand. June gasps and almost falls down the steps, Brooke and Ethan come out of their room and they both gasp, Brooke clutching Uriah closer to her chest. Ethan's jaw falls and he lets out a shriek.

"Can you be quiet!" Mom yells, opening Chase's room door and walking out. She gasps, rushing down the stairs and grabbing May's cheeks.

"Hinata! What have you done to yourself? Where are those precious bangs?" Mom cries, rubbing her forehead. May smiles sweetly, holding mother's cheeks and kissing her forehead.

"Mom, I didn't lose them, I just had it styles back, and added some extensions to keep it back, I wanted to see how it's go for a month without my bangs, and before you jump to conclusions, it wasn't Devin that convinced me to do this." She says, looking at me at the last sentence. I smile, putting my head down a little.

"It's just, you've carried your bangs since you were eleven, and I never thought you'd want to get rid of them, or lose them for even a few weeks, not to talk of a month." Mom puckers her lips, her brows furrowing cutely.

"Mom, your little Hinata is growing." Kira clicks her tongue and rushes out before she can see mom's glare.

"First, my Sakura changes her hair to green, then my Hinata, next Temari might change her hair to red, even my Ino and Naruto might get something silly." Mom cries and May just hugs her. I grab Devin's arm and drag him upstairs, I don't think he might want mom to see him right now.

"You know, I'm starting to think I'm dating the only sane girl from an insane family." Devin groans. I turn around, a secret smile on my face.

"You'll come to find out that May might be the craziest and the freakiest of them all!" I sing.

Chase calls me to his room, late afternoon, the sun was already setting and the wind was getting a little cooler. I open the door with a light knock, peeping in and I see Fayette holding hands with Chase. I walk in and shut the door behind me, slowly walking to the bed.

Fayette releases Chase and takes my hands, pulling me and hugging me close. "I'm so sorry April, I'm so sorry I forgot you, I don't know how many times it might happen or it might've happened, but I promise you, I will always remember the love you all give me." She breathes, her warm breath tickling the back of my neck.

"It's okay Fayette, there's nothing you'd do that'll make me mad at you, upset yes, but never mad." I say and she pulls away, smiling.

"Um, I hate to break up this beautiful get together," Chase starts and I look at him.

"April, don't freak out, but Austin is in the hospital."

What?

"He has a broken leg,"

Oh my God!

"Because he was hit by a bicycle."

Huh?
