~April
"So you-"
"Honestly April?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you shut the hell up?" Lola asks and my mouth clamps shut as I stare at her. I go to open my mouth again when she sighs, turning around to look at me.
"Yes, yes my sister is not coming and I feel good, yes." She breathes, running her dark skinned hands over her face.
"But Temi goes everywhere with you, what happened?" I ask and she shrugs, looking at her table.
Her brown skin has a soft tone to it as it usually does when she just wakes up, her warm brown eyes glued to the mirror, her long slender fingers were sprawled against the fine wood of the vanity desk, triangle braids pulled up into a messy bun on top of her head.
"Mumu." She mutters to herself as she looks at me.
"Hey, I am not a mumu." I say and she laughs, her angelic laugh which always somehow ends with a snort.
"I actually kinda feel weird since she's not coming with me because she always comes with me to any event, and it's- I'm trying to be positive, it's just a basketball game, right, and it's in like two weeks from now, so why would I be freaking out?" She questions which makes it sound like she's asking herself.
"Whatevah, I'm hungry and I'm too lazy to cook, do you still have some of your jollof rice? I'm dying of starvation here." I cry and hold the back of my hand to my head in a dramatic way.
"Like I said, mumu." She laughs and stands up, her long thin legs moving fast outside the room.
I bite my lip and scatch my eye with my left hand since my right has gone limp, and is slightly paralyzed.
Even I'm still confused.
My phone vibrated and I look and see it's a message from Chase.
Sasuke: Where you at?
Me: Home with Lola, why?
My phone pings thirty seconds later, while I was zoning out which kinda scared the shit out of me.
Sasuke: Temi called to ask, said she was trying to reach you but you weren't answering and yeah, so I'll tell her now.
Me: Wateva, and also, my phone's charging right now, it was dead so...
I hear a loud pang in the kitchen and I rush down there, feeling the air hit my face.
As I step into the kitchen, I see the spoon on the floor and Lola cradling her hand to her chest while hissing in pain. I touch the spoon but jump back as it burns my skin, leaving a red blotch on the tips of my fingers.
"Hey, what happened?" I ask as I pull her to tap, letting the cool water run over her palm. Next, I carry a napkin and pick up the spoon, dumping it under the water to cool off.
"I guess I forgot it again, it's no biggie." She says as she fries her hand, walking over to the pot.
"Come over and see if it's the right color." She says and I nod, walking over to her, I peer into the pot and smile at her, "Yep, same as always." She grins with me and covers it, walking out of the kitchen.
I roll my eyes at her and pick up a plate, dishing almost the whole pot of rice into the plate.
I smile in satisfaction and walk out of the kitchen to the dining room, dropping my plate carefully onto the table as I slide into one of the chairs.
I place my phone on the table, picking up the spoon and shoving a spoonful of rice into my mouth. I moan as the taste explodes in my mouth, I gotta say, in my opinion, best rice ever.
I chew and drop the spoon, looking over my shoulder as Lola stares at me.
I raise a brow at her and she walks up to me, sitting in the chair beside me. "What?" I question, my brows furrowing.
She plays with the necklace around her neck as she bites her lip.
"What are you doing?" I ask again and she smiles.
"Just wanted to say hi." She chirps and I groan as she laughs. "I get you every time, how do you always fall for this?" She laughs, her hand over her face.
"It's not my fault I'm not used to your weird culture." I mumble and she told her eyes.
"I've been doing this for seven years April, either you're super dumb or you just don't care." She laughs and I stare at her awkwardly.
I'll never understand her.
The front door opens and I hear a very familiar, "I'm back mother fuckers!"
Temi's head pops out and she stares at us for a moment before her eyes narrow on me.
"What are you eating?" She asks, walking over to me, her feet slapping against the floor. I look down at my plate and at her and then at Lola.
"Rice?"
"Whose rice?"
"Mine?"
"Who made it?"
"One of you?"
"Good enough." She answers and walks out, humming to herself.
I think you'll understand that they're twins from their weird sense of speaking, yes.
"Oh for the love of all things greasy, stop texting me!" Lola suddenly yells and I flinch, falling off my seat, and instead of the stupid girl to help me, she starts laughing too.
"Bitch." I murmur and stand up, dusting my skirt. She sticks her ongue out at me and does a wierd thing with hey eyes that freaks me out.
I look away and shove another spoonful of rice down my throat, my phone pings and I glance over at it, seeing it's an unknown number that's just texted me.
I pick it up and check the text.
Unknown number: My life is over!
Me: What do you want now Luke?
Unknown number: Who is this Luke you speak of? Must be handsome.
Me: Not really, hate his face
Unknown number: Le gasp! How dare you?! No, no! Blasphemy! He's hurt here, right here, (btw it's his heart if you don't know so...)
Me: Luke, whatever your looking for, it's in the cupboard where you keep your cereal box.
Unknown number: Ahahaha! aHaHAahahHA!!!¡¡¡

For the love of Demi Lovato stop hollering poppyhead, bah!!¡¡!!
Me: Siiiiigh.
I look up and shake my head slightly at him, he can be so stupid.
I save his name as dork and start eating again when I see Lola staring at me with big doe eyes. I narrow my eyes and at her and lean back.
"What do you want?" I ask and she smiles innocently at me, eyes flitting from my face to my phone repeatedly.
I roll my eyes at her and continue eating, smiling as the plate was almost empty.
"So, new person huh?" She asks, a mischevious smile on her face. I shove the last spoon into my mouth and stand up.
"He's not a new person, and no, we're not getting together." I tell her firmly and she cackles.
"I never said anything about you two getting together, you did that all by yourself." She says and I scowl at her.
"No but you were thinking it, you witch." I say and she laughs, smacking my shoulder.
"Jesus, woman, violent much?" I ask as I rub my shoulder. She gives me her signature innocent smile as I dump my plate in the sink, grabbing the dishwashing liquid. I grab SpongeBob, well, in my head that's what I see.
Lola called me crazy when I got herself and Temi to sew a white and brown shirt and pants and a little red tie and stick arms just to make the little sponge look like SpongeBob SquarePants himself.
But you cannot blame me, I simply wanted to have my own little singing sponge. If it actually worked out I'd have gotten a crab that I'll keep as a pet, that would have been Mr Krabs, a squid that would have been Squidward. But I was kinda scared that the squid would eat the crab... I don't even know again.
"Damilola! Get up here!" Temi shouts and I sigh, here we go again.
I dry the dish and walk up the stairs, ready to see what the problem was.
I hear faint voices coming from Temi's room and I walk there, opening the door, I see Lola and Temi sitting across a laptop, their mom on the screen.
"Good afternoon Mrs Frost." I greet and her eyes turn to where I was standing, close enough to them so they camera could capture me.
"April, how've you been?" She asks, smiling warmly at me. I shrug and sit beside them, smiling so my eyes get smaller at the sides.
"I've been good, just pressure to get a new one done." I say and she laughs, her gold teeth showing. Temi rolls her eyes and nudges my shoulder.
"All will be well, just keep working, dealing with these twins is enough hard work, their level of humor is like, non-existent!" She exclaims and I nod, smiling like a nerd.
"Not cool Ap." Lola mutters and I shove her face, sticking my tongue out at her.
"Dami, Temi, I'll talk to you guys later, I have to go now, ma kpa Ra e." She says, ending it with Yoruba.
I wave at her, watching as the girls nod before the call ends. I suck in a breath and stare at the both of them, "Who wants to go for a walk?"
•°•°•°•|•°•°•°•
The wind softly caressed face, blowing out a breath as I closed my eyes. The soft humming in my ear as the wind passed, tickling the hairs on my skin, my tongue met the roof of my mouth in a repeated manner. I paused to lick my lips, biting it a little as I stared at my surrounding.
Empty.
That's exactly what it is.
It's the middle of the night and I'm outside, on a stroll down the road, why, because I needed to clear my head.
It's freaking 2:56 am and I'm just aimlessly and mindlessly walking.
How bad can my time on earth be?
The sound of my footsteps loud and clear, just like the sound of my heart thumping in my ear when I see a figure move quickly past a broken light.
It's not as cliché as you think, that light got broken this afternoon when Temi, Lola and I went out and the twins ended up arguing over why vanilla was better or not better than chocolate.
None of them won, which led to Temi's anger and a small rock being tossed into the sky, which wasn't a very far sky if it hit the street lights.
I'm sure the angels that we're going to deliver my blessing will probably think this road led to the accomplices of the devil.
Ooh.
My steps quickened and I looked behind me, feeling like someone was watching me. When I looked back, a figure was standing in front of me making me halt in my steps and glare.
"What is this about now? If you're going to call me out why this point?" I ask and the figure walks into the light.
Pitch black hair.
Bluer than the sky blue eyes.
A perfectly raised brow.
And a cereal box in his hands.
"Austin?"
•°•|•°•
He had cereal sticking out of his mouth, the crumbs sticking to his face.
"Should I be worried?" I ask him cautiously and he grins at me like a child caught on Christmas night stealing his gift box.
"What are you doing out at this time of the night?" I ask him and he rolls his eyes.
"I koul we aking ou gi kame kin." He says, his voice muffled as he chewed on the last pieces of the food he'd stuck in his mouth like a pig.
"What?"
"I should be asking you the same thing." He says after he'd swallowed. I nod and lick my lips, squinting my eyes to search for any other person that might definitely not be just chilling and eating cereal on a walk.
"So what are you doing out here?" He asks and I look at him.
"Hmm?"
"So what are you doing out here?" He questions again and I furrow my brows.
"I thought we left it at a point where we'd both decide it was personal." I say and he tilts his head and scratches behind his neck.
"Yeah, I don't think so?"
I roll my eyes at him and start walking down the road, stopping when I heard his footsteps following closely behind.
"Why are you following me?" I ask him and he shrugs one of his shoulders.
"I don't have anything better to do, I'd sleep but I'm insomniac, so, I'll just walk and walk, probably fall asleep and end up at the other side of the world but hey, to be a writer you gotta go on a little adventure once in a while eh?" He laughs and I eye him weirdly.
"You're weird." I say and he laughs, throwing his head back.
I turn around, walking towards his house without him noticing as he keeps describing the cereal he's eating, through taste, crunchiness and all that stuff.
I smile to myself when I see his condo not too far up ahead, pulling out my phone and texting Lola that I won't be back home till tomorrow morning.
I'm helping this damned, godforsaken, cereal loving, insomniac, annoyingly hot writer back to his
condo to get a freaking goodnight sleep.
