Chapter 1 - A squirrel wouldn't date you if its life depended on it.

I WATCHED AS MY brother and sister wolfed down their foods, and I, with an amused smile on my face and a camera in my hand, silently recorded it. Funny thing is that they do this all the time, with any food they order, while I record it and laugh at anyone who finally pukes.

"Done!" Kira yells into Ethan's ear, licking the sauce off her fingers, Ethan groans and clutches his stomach, "I think I'm going to explode!" I burst out laughing, watching as his face morphs into pain and finally into a -I think I'm going to puke now- look. His eyes widen and he dashes out of the building, leaving his half eaten burger on the table, "Don't mind if I do." Kira says and starts wolfing down his food.

"How are you still eating?" I ask as I turn off the camera, picking at my own fries, "What? A big lady needs a big lunch don't you think?" I shake my head at her. Kira and Ethan are twins, both having the same blonde hair and big blue eyes, they look like a carbon-copy of each other to be honest, if I stood by them, telling others I'm their sibling with my dirty blonde dreadlocks and mismatched eyes, they'd just raise their brows in a 'Seriously?' kinda way.

Ethan strides back in with a happy face, a stupid grin in his face, he plops down into his seat and waves his phone around, "What are you so happy about?" Kira questions with a look on her face.

"I just got the number of the hottest chick ever!" He whistles making me fake gag, "How'd you get my number?" Kira asks with a smirk, "Oh don't flatter yourself, a squirrel wouldn't date you if its life depended on it." He cackles, "Oh yeah? Then explain how I'm with your best friend." She shoots back, I can't help but relax into my chair, watching their bickering go back and forth.

My phone pings, I check to see that my best friends are already close to the restaurant, I look around, nothing fancy, just a really dark floor wood board, bland walls, a counter, tables everywhere, and turned-off light bulbs. I shove another fry into my mouth, knowing I won't be able to in a couple of weeks.

I turn my attention back to Kira and Ethan who were laughing at something on his phone, a smile tugs at my lips, watching them argue and then suddenly decide to laugh at someone together was always very amusing.

The bell at the doorway jingles as someone pushes the the door open, I turn and find myself looking at my best friends, Macy and Adam. I smile, turning back to face the twins, "Guys, I gotta go now, I'll see you later." Ethan nods absentmindedly while Kira waves me away, I roll my eyes and pick up my backpack, safely tucking my camera into a corner, "You ready to go?" Adam asks, running his hand through his brown curls. I nod my head, following them to his car.

"So, is there something you guys would like me to know, like since when you became a thing?" I smirk as I see Adam stiffen, "What are you talking about?" Macy asks with a high pitched voice, and a high pitched voice always meant something, "Oh come on, do you really think I didn't see the heated make out session?" I wiggle my brows at her and nudge her with my elbow.

I've been best friends with Macy since the third grade, she was the new kid, super rich which made everyone jealous. How we became friends? It was easy, it started with 'Is that pen really purple?' It's funny because it was the only way a kid of six was to get friends.

Now, come to think of it, you have to impress everyone just so they'll comment on your hair, and they might not say anything nice. "You saw it?" Adam asks as he opens the door, I run for shotgun and Mace huffs, getting into the backseat. I laugh and stick out my tongue at her.

"Of course she saw it, her life would be boring without us." Macy scoffs making me roll my eyes, "Oh please, you guys need my awesome self in your lives!" I smile as Adam starts driving, "What did you film today?" Macy asks, chewing on a bubblegum. "Burger eating contest." I pass her the camera, pulling out my phone and texting June. Macy's horse laughter cracks through the silence in the car. "How did he lose to Kira?" She asks as she passes the camera back to me, I shrug and hang it around my neck.

"I have to get to the store tomorrow to get more supplies, I have a painting due by Wednesday." I say and Macy laughs, knowing that she has told me to get it done as soon as I could.

The car stops in front of my house, I push open the door, grabbing my backpack, Macy's door slams close as we walk towards the building, I notice dads car parked on the driveway, which means he finished his shift early.

Adam was the first to walk into the house, greeted by my brother lounging on the couch, his phone firmly in his hands, "Oh hey sis, what are you doing here?" He asks with a serious face, "I live here." I deadpan.

"Well you shouldn't be, you're seventeen for goodness sake." I roll my eyes at him, "You know Mom and Dad wouldn't let me move out, and even I don't want to move out."

"Why would you want to move out at seventeen anyways?" Macy asks and I roll my eyes at her.

I've told them this a bazillion times, I'm tired of all their ugly faces!

Adam makes a beeline for the kitchen while Macy follows me to my room. My room is the definition of a jungle. All the clothes are everywhere, my table is scattered with all the books on it, my bed is the worst, pizza boxes, burger wraps, my basketball, my canvases and paint and brushes and other clothes.

I drop my backpack on the small chair at my table, pushing the boxes and wrappers and clothes off my bed, I jump on it, spreading my arms out. Macy scrunches her nose, "April this room is disgusting, when last did you clean it?" She asks, pushing a pile of clothes away with her leg.

"I don't know, like two weeks ago, I guess?" She rolls her eyes and studies the room again, feeling creeped out. "So what's going on between you and Adam?" I ask, sitting up, she blushes, using her dark hair to cover the red creeping up her neck, my face breaks out into a full on grin, "Nothing really, we just kissed and that was it, nothing serious, just in the heat of the moment."

"Riiiight." I say still smiling. She picks up a pillow and throws it at me, hitting me square in the face, "Oh it's on." I say and grip the pillow, hitting her with it, she laughs, trying to block the hits when the door opens and two girls who look exactly like me stand, one staring at me with a knowing look through her bangs, the other gaping at my room, her six inch heel clacking against the floor board as she walks in.

"April what is this?" I roll eyes eyes at her, "Oh please June, its not like you're gonna help me clean it up, be more like May." I point towards my other sister who was already folding the clothes on the floor.

After my mom gave birth to the twins, Kira and Ethan, she had triplets, me, May and June. June is the eldest, older than me with about three minutes while I'm older than May with two minutes. Then after us, she had Chase, my fifteen year old brother.

She rolls her eyes and helps me with the pizza boxes, I smile, turning to Macy, but see that she's also helping them clean. "You guys are the best! I'm going out with Chase to the store, you can use my X-box or watch a movie on my laptop." I say and rush out of the room after grabbing my jacket.

I run down the stairs, stopping in front of Chase, he looks up from his phone, raising a questioning brow at me, "Wanna go to the store?" He smiles and pushes himself off the couch, yelling to Adam that he's out with me.

Arriving at our destination, I walk into the store, smiling as I set my eyes on a pair of new paintbrushes, I walk towards it, running my fingers over the smooth handle.

"You want this one?" Chase asks, looking at a can of paint. I miss and he picks it out.

We don't spend a lot of time there, just getting a few things, then we decided to stop by an ice cream shop.

I was having a really bad craving.

I got the vanilla flavor, and Chase had the strawberry flavor.

My day was going great...

Well until I crashed into a chest.

*.*.*.*.*.*.*.

Strong arms wrap around me, stopping me from hitting the ground and also leaving me to stare at a chest where my ruined ice cream stays on display.

He raises me up and I stare at blue eyes, ocean blue eyes.

His dark hair falls to his eyes and he brushes them away. "Are you okay?" His deep voice rumbles out. I stare at him like he's stupid.

"Are you kidding me? My ice cream is ruined and stays like a proud display on your shirt, do you know how bad I had a craving for that?" Chase snickers and I glare at him, making him shut up.

"Oh, I- I didn't know that." He says, biting his lips which made me just want to drop my bags and pull him-

"How would you? When you practically ran into it!" I glare at him and I see a black girl, about my age walking towards us with a raised brow.

Chase's eyes widen and he starts jumping, squeaking like a fangirl.

I make a face at him, silently asking why he looked so excited.

"What is going on here?" She asks, looking at me with a glare. "Buddy over here decided to squash and hold my ice cream captive." I say and Chase smacks my hand and I turn to him.

"That's Kai Winters, last year's world best female boxer!" He squeals and I roll my eyes, "I don't care if she's Betty Summers, I want my cream."

The blue eyed boy gulps and starts digging into his pockets and I nearly laugh.

He really thinks I want a new ice cream, I just needed something to argue about.

"I don't need your goddamn money, and I don't need another ice cream, I lost my crave."

He visibly relaxed and I smile, "Then beat it, if you don't want my fist in your face." Kai says and I quirk a brow.

"I will roast you, you're a boxer but I will so roast you, you'll hate being in this world." I say and take a step forward, she glares and her fists clench.

"Just to cut in, she will roast you, literally, just make sure you lock your doors this night." Chase says and I turn to him, "Boy I told you to stop talking, if she don't wanna lock her doors, she ain't gonna lock her doors, and besides, I have better things to do."

I bend down to pick up the paintbrushes that fell, my blonde dreads falling to my face.

Chase helps me pick the rest up and I swing my hair over, accidentally revealing my tattoo.

"You're April Freeman."

Well shit.

I look at the blue eyed guy, his mouth hanging open.

"And you're Austin Henderson, why are we stating the obvious?" He looks taken aback, before he smiles widely, looking at Kai.

"She knows my name!" He squeals. I roll my eyes, biting back a smile at his childishness. Kai hums and shoves his shoulder.

"You're a really great artist, I have like twenty of your artworks in my house!" He exclaims and my brows shoot to the sky.

Say whaaaa?

"Really?" I ask, and he nods enthusiastically. There was no way he could actually be serious.

"Woah." Chase says and nudges my arm. I roll my eyes, and bite back a smile.

"Luke, we gotta go, River is gonna have my head for picking up Neferankh late." She says and he nods, still smiling.

She had to drag him away, with his head still in the clouds.

He's something else.
