A few days pass, the ball has happened and Emerald joins Shadow and other Hedgehogs as they come toe-to-toe with the Cats. Topaz is with her father, Dennis Cat.
"What are you doing here, you black and red scamp?" Dennis asks, making Shadow's blood boil
"I've come with a proposition, to end this feud." Shadow answers, irritated
"Unless there's an admission and apology somewhere, I'm not listening to your mouth."
"For what?!"
"Your family starting this feud in the first place."
"We never started anything, you flea-bitten furball!"
"What did you just call me?!"
"You heard!"
Soon, both families are in a bitter fight, to quickly escalate into a blood bath. Emerald soon goes down, crying as Topaz notices and approaches.
"Hey, are you okay?" Topaz asks
"No, get me out of this please; I can't take it anymore!" Emerald answers, crying
Topaz soon helps Emerald to her feet and takes her home, to meet Sapphire.
"Hello there, oh my Emerald!" Sapphire cries
"Queen Hedgehog, she was caught in a fight between King Hedgehog and my father." Topaz responds
"Wait, you're a Cat."
"Yes, much to my dismay..."
"Come with me, Emerald needs you more than your father does right now."
Topaz and Emerald soon follow Sapphire to a heated basement.
"Mother, how is Sonic?" Emerald asks, still crying
"At the moment, he's getting worse, sweetheart. I'm sorry."
Emerald soon starts crying more.
"Mother, please leave; I can't take any more of this..."
"Certainly, sweetheart."
Sapphire leaves Emerald and Topaz alone. Shadow soon returns home, angrier than before he left.
"That darn Cat; he deserves a good thrashing!" Shadow screams, breaking things as he enters the hall
"Dear, I want you to calm down; I need to show you something. Follow me to the basement." Sapphire instructs
"Why the basement?"
"Just follow me."
Shadow follows Sapphire to the basement, to notice Topaz with Emerald. He bottles his anger up.
"What is a Cat doing with Emerald?" Shadow whispers, in anger
"Those two, could be the ticket to this feud's undoing." Sapphire whispers, calming Shadow
"That's right; I got it!"
"Keep it down!"
Emerald and Topaz soon hear Shadow and Sapphire; the two teenagers approach them.
"What are you two doing here?" Topaz asks, unimpressed and protecting Emerald
"She's got Blaze's temperament." Sapphire says
"The name is Topaz, Hedgehog!"
"Wait, so you're Blaze's daughter?" Emerald asks
"Yes, wait... You're a Hedgehog too!"
Emerald's ears quickly lower, showing that she's hiding something.
"Wait, there's more to this?"
"To be honest, my parents and I are hybrids; we're not fully Hedgehog." Emerald answers
"Oh, my word, I'm so sorry you guys. Through countless generations, my family have always been taught to respect our hybrid counterparts. That was until this feud came about."
"Topaz, I never properly introduced myself. I'm Emerald, a genetic hybrid of whom is an exact genetic counterpart of the Hedgehog monarchs."
"Of whom are Shadow and I." Sapphire adds on
"How are you a hybrid, your Highness?"
Sapphire soon turns into her human self.
"You were asking..." Sapphire answers, returning back into her Hedgehog form
"Wow, that's awesome. How's Shadow a hybrid?"
"I have genes of a Hedgehog and an old villain named Black Doom." Shadow answers
"Nice! So Emerald, how are you an exact genetic counterpart of Sapphire and Shadow?"
"I'll tell you more later. Back to why my parents are here." Emerald responds
Sapphire and Shadow are soon silent; Topaz sees through them.
"Is this to do with the feud?" Topaz asks
"Yes, I think you two may be the ticket to ending it." Sapphire admits
"You're joking, right?"
"Would I say it if I was?"
"My mother isn't joking. But seriously, how can we stop this?" Emerald responds, asking
"Emerald makes a valid point. How can that happen is we're either in hiding or separate houses?" Topaz asks, lowering her ears
"You two aren't even meant to know, let alone like each other. This should prompt peace between the two houses." Shadow answers, buying into the idea
"Wait, how do we know if we're being pulled into a trap or not?" Emerald asks
"Emerald's right, considering that the proposition attempt turned into a blood bath." Topaz points out
Topaz soon goes upstairs and walks around the hall; for Sonic to spot and aim at her for an attack. As for Emerald, she soon hears a cry for help.
"That's Topaz!" Emerald informs
Sapphire, Shadow, and Emerald race to the hall, to notice Topaz pinned to the floor by Sonic.
"Sonic please, I mean no harm!" Topaz cries
"How do I know you're not one of those spies?!" Sonic asks, in anger
"Because... I'm Blaze's daughter, she told me a lot about you; how you were close friends before the feud, your speed... Trust me, I mean no harm..."
Sonic tightens his grip, causing Topaz to slowly lose consciousness. Emerald sees this and races to push Sonic away from Topaz.
"Leave Topaz alone; she's telling the truth when she says that she means no harm!" Emerald orders and defends
Emerald quickly races to Topaz's aid, protecting her from further attacks. Sonic tries to approach Topaz, for a force field to show up.
"Don't touch her, you monster!" Emerald orders, strengthening her force field as her protectiveness rises
Sonic, realising that he's upset Emerald, steps back as Emerald heals Topaz's internal and external wounds. Shadow storms towards Sonic, stopping a short distance away from him.
"What was that for?! Tell me!" Shadow instructs, angry
"She's a Cat and shouldn't be here!" Sonic points out
"That doesn't mean you almost kill her!"
Emerald watches on, getting angry and losing her composure.
"Enough! Both households fighting is bad enough, not to add you two topping things off!" Emerald shouts, before storming away
The drama comes to an abrupt halt as Emerald storms out and Topaz follows her.
"Emerald, wait!" Topaz shouts
"What's the point? This feud is just breaking everyone and no-one's willing to resolve it. I want the feud to end." Emerald responds, still angry
Topaz soon opens her arms and Emerald runs into them, hugging Topaz as she returns it.
"Let's head to your basement." Topaz says, softly
Emerald nods as the two friends head to Emerald's basement. Emerald gives Shadow and Sonic an evil glare as she passes them. Sapphire notices.
"What have you both done?!" Sapphire asks, in disappointment
Sapphire goes to join Emerald and Topaz. All three arrive at th basement; Emerald and Topaz sit down on the padded mattress.
"Are you girls alright?" Sapphire asks
"I'm alright, I don't know about Emerald though." Topaz answers
"All I want is this feud to end; is that so difficult to ask?" Emerald asks, still angry
Topaz soon hugs Emerald to comfort her, for Sapphire to notice and realise what needs to change.
'We need to end this.' Sapphire thinks
Shadow soon enters the basement, for Emerald to notice and stand up firm.
"What are you doing here?" Emerald asks, unimpressed
"I've come to apologise." Shadow answers
"I'm listening."
"I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I hate seeing women get hurt; especially by other males."
"Wait, you don't see me as a threat?" Topaz asks, in disbelief
"No way, you're nothing compared to your brother. Sonic was pulverised by him."
"Wait, you mean Max got into a fight with Sonic?"
"Yes, and their fight got rather violent." Sapphire answers, lowering her ears
"Is there more to this feud than a simple power struggle?"
"That is unknown. The only thing that is known is that this feud has been happening for more than a hundred years. Various Cats and Hedgehogs alike have been going into hiding, just to become friends." Shadow answers, getting angry
The basement is very quickly silenced. Unaware of what the future holds, Sapphire and Shadow decide to leave Emerald and Topaz alone.
