There she was rushing to meet two familiar men standing just a little ways away.
"Is there something wrong?" asked Jess
"No... actually everything is right! Follow me!" I say with a big grin
"Oh" says Lily flatly
"Oh?" Jasmine questions
"That is the face of a certain person ready to cause trouble." Jess explained
"Now-now, there is no need to fill her head with such things." I say

Melithia's POV:
It's been nine years since we met that girl and I still couldn't get her out of my head. Whenever I remember her young face I just want to bring her into my embrace and protect her from all the atrocities this world has to offer. But no matter how hard I tried she wouldn't stay no matter what.
...
Nine years ago:
We were on our way back to the capital when we had happened upon a village that hadn't been marked on the map. It wasn't entirely surprising as after the war with the demon continent a couple hundred years ago the roads have become extremely dangerous. Though most of the demon army had been wiped out by the hero at the time, some escaped into the large forests that could be found most everywhere. They eventually settled settled down and started breeding and they plague many desolate or remote roads looking for easy prey. This has caused a lot of problems for humans as after the war many new human settlements started to pop up everywhere and no one is willing to travel the thousands of roads due to the increased danger the demons bring. Thankfully though it had seemed it wasn't as big a problem here as other places and the town was actually quite large.
"I SAID NO, YOU DAMN GEEZER!"
I turned my head to spot a man with a massive build pushing away an old man that looked to be in his sixties. I felt a slight breeze fly by as James ran to catch the old man from falling to the ground. Though he didn't like to admit it he was a good man that you could rely on in a pinch.
He managed to arrive just at the nick of time as the old man was just inches away from colliding harshly with the stone paved road. I could see James shoot the hulking man a sharp glare that caused the latter to flinch as the former helped the old man to his feet.
We escorted the shaken old man to a restaurant nearby and ordered him a glass of water. After a while Darren spoke, "May I ask why such a thing happened in the first place?"
He sat there with a face the seemed to hold no distinct emotion for very long before answering, "outside of town a good ways a way there lives a family of three. A father, a mother and their little girl. I'm friends with the father and being so close to the family I naturally know it's her ninth birthday. In all their years of living here they have not once failed to bring her here on her birthday. I'm practically her grandfather! But I am worried it has long past the time they usually come and I am scared something horrible has happened to them. I have asked many to go look and I do offer them an appropriate sum to do so but none will go, for they are all greedy cowards that know nothing but money."
I was quite surprised, though there aren't many demon beasts around this village or the surrounding roads this is still one of the more dangerous areas and only the crazy stray from the village borders.
"We'll go." I said firmly leaving no room for argument.
"Th-thank you!" The old man continued to thank us even going as far as bowing so low he nearly fell over.
...
We soon arrived at the northern part of town and the old man pointed in the direction they lived. It wasn't till a couple hours later that we came upon a clearing.
The air was thick with the smell of iron and red painted everywhere around a beautiful log cabin that had not been left unscathed. My eyes immediately shot to the figure of a young girl standing over a mutilated body while holding a sword.
As I called out to her she fell to the ground.
...
When we brought the girl into the house we were quite surprised to see that although the outside showed obvious signs of damage the inside was as if it had been cleaned just minutes ago. Contrary to the smell outside it had the comforting odor of wood. Darren had carried the girl to what we had assumed was her room.
I quietly inspected the house and spotted a very odd picture resting on the hearth. It was not weird in the way that it was abstract but it was because of the people it depicted. It showed a thin, pale, man that had the aura of someone that demanded respect. He smiled brightly as he had his arm wrapped around a beautiful woman that had the figure that many could only wish to have. Her raven black hair hung down to her waist as she held a girl that looked similar to the one currently laying in the other room.
The girl had the same black hair as the woman and the same wolf like ears and tail but her eyes seemed to be split in half with two different colors filling each half. She smiled brightly as she snuggled into the woman's bosom.
"AAH!"
A shout came from the bedroom and I quickly rushed to see what was happening.
When I arrived I saw James sitting down on the floor with a startled expression. I looked over to the girl and saw that a pair of ears and a tail had suddenly appeared.
