Chapter 16 - 16 | ELUDE

[Alexia pov]

Boom!!!

What in the world was that?

It sounded just like an explosion. It had set all us shifters on high alert. Those that were once asleep like I was, are now wide awake looking around for answers.

Val held onto my t-shirt from behind while wiping her groggy eyes.

Another explosion went off with gun shoots. What was happening out there?

"We're saved."

"They have come!"

"Finally."

The four shifters in the corners-a small group that kept to themselves- said in whispers.

They knew something and knew what was happening. But it took everyone off guard, and probably the hunters as well.

"Dad!"

Val shouts happily taking me off guard. I looked outside the cell bars but saw no one.

"What's wrong Val?" I crouch down to her level. She smiled brightly with her small yellow stained teeth.

"Daddy is here!"

"Why do you say that Val? No one is coming."

Her face contoured to show that she was upset with what I said and ready to argue. But what happened next, proved her theory and the group whisperes.

"Grrrrrr."

At the cell door stood a man bare butt naked. Quickly I covered Val's eyes in prevention of seeing a naked man and ruining her innocent eyes. Werewolves are used to seeing each other naked but its uncomfortable for a child to see another's anatomy at such age.

Backing ourselves to the wall. I watched how my cell mates waited in anticipation. I had no doubt that he was a werewolf. His scent and claws gave it away, not to forget his growl and glowing gold eyes.

Dang this dude was on fire, he knew how to make an entrance.

The naked man grabbed the cell bar door and yanked it open with force and without effort. He sent the door flying off to the side.

"Come we don't have much time."

Was all he said waving us over outside the cells. I watched as everyone began to move to the now door-less cell and exiting one at a time, thanking the naked man.

This was an opportunity and I wasn't stupid. It was my only chance to escape this place. I thanked the goddess for sending this man as I pulled Val along with me to the exit.

My limp couldn't have been more obvious. Each werewolf here had an injury and me? I had multiple.

Like a stamped we rushed down the corridor. The naked man made his way to the front to guide us out.

I recognized this corridor as it was the same path that I had been taken to get to the one specific room made just for me.

As I speed walked with Val holding onto my hand, we passed the door that has my name written on it. Shivers run through my body and burning bile formed in my throat.

My breathing became heavy but I quickly managed to shake the thought of the room away and focus of escaping, if I didn't, I would have had another attack like before.

Gun shots could still be heard outside. My gaze went to the Windows. It was clearly after midnight. No one would ever mistake the light shinning from outside, it danced as it got closer.

The trees had gotten on fire from the explosion, sending smoke into the air.

Finally, we had reached the exit door out of our personal hell. Many sighed with relief and cried as they stepped out into the open.

It has been months probably since they had last smelled and seen the outdoors. The excitement I felt coming from Val made me smile. She hoped to see her father again. And I hope for her emotional sake that he was here.

Stepping in cold mud just as I exited, sent a feeling through me. A feeling of freedom once again.

Suddenly out of nowhere, Val was ripped away from me. It angered me.

I looked at that person to only see it was the four whisperes holding onto Val. Three males and one female. Once were well-built only to look like skin hanging on bones like myself.

"Give her back!" My voice was low and threatening.

"She comes with us. She belongs with us."

"No she's mine and I will keep her safe."

Val got out of their grip and ran to me only to hug my side.

"They know dad, they will take me to him. I hope to see you again soon Alexia. I'll miss you."

And she released me and ran back to them. She waved goodbye happily leaving me stunned. Even she had left me but on her own will.

With that they ran off following the man like the rest. I had no choice but to follow if I wanted to get out of here.

Just as I was following them, I spotted wolves and hunters. It looked like a typical war zone.

But it brought back the memories I had forced myself to suppress for such a long time.

The fire, the few wolves and hunters lying dead on the floor brought back flashes of the day I lost everything. I now ran on adrenaline. I pushed myself to the front of the line trying to get away from the scene.

I never looked back as I climbed into one of the huge trucks that had men and females helping us up.

I cared not of my surroundings, just grabbed the female's hand that had pink hair and jumped up with my foot on a step to get inside.

I made my way to the furthest corner inside the truck. Bags and small boxes were packed. Instead, on sitting on the benches up against the truck walls, I sat on the floor in the corner. I curled myself into a ball and rocked back and forth trying to get rid of the memory that was engraved in my mind.

All I've witnessed and experienced were bound to get to me mentally sooner or later. I was upset that it was now. It seemed as I just needed a little push to break and Raftar was so close, if only he knew he would be dying in peace right now.

Each passing moment was torcher by the sounds outside. I wanted it to end and just leave. I wanted to close my eyes and dream of something, anything good at this point.

Once the truck was loaded with my ex-cell mates everything was coming to a stop. They have done their mission to save us and now it was time to go.

With us all here, the other truck must have been for the fighters, our rescuers.

But what caught my attention was the four whispers inside the same truck as me. I looked for Val but she was not with them. Their faces held an emotion as if they were pleased with relief of what was happening.

Val must have found her father if she isn't in here with us. I wished I could have seen how happy she was to be reunited with her father. But a feeling to want to be with her and protect her was still there. I had to let it go like everything else in my life. I couldn't mourn over a person leaving me no more. And she left me by choice.

"This is all, we have to leave now!"

A man in a full back outfit like the rest of the fighters said. A black pants with combat boots and long sleeved button down black shirt. It was like an army outfit.

The woman agreed and pulled something out of a bag. Three boxes. She passed them to her three Co-fighters, and they began opening them.

We were all curious as to what was held in those boxes.

"Listen up everyone. We are glad to have you back. We are going to inject you with a drug to make you sleep due to it will take us a couple of days to get back to base. To those who do not know us, trust that you will be safe in our care and please don't fight against us. Thank you." The female with pink bubble gum "in your face hair' said calmly.

Wait so you're telling me that some werewolves here knew each other? How?

Then one by one the three injected each of us. Some held trust in them while some held fear against it, just like I was. I had my own share or those syringes thanks to those hunters. But they had said it would take a couple of days to get back to where ever their base was. So I guess being knocked out and not feeling restless was the only way to help me right now.

Then came my turn, my eyes were wide open as a male bent to my level on the ground and looked at me. His eyes seeking permission to inject me as he scanned over my bloody body with sympathy.

Just to get rid of his preying eyes I bared my neck, giving him access to inject the liquid into my veins.

With the syringe in his right hand he positioned it at my neck. I closed my eyes in anticipation of what was to come neck. The needle stung my craining neck as it sunk in. My face squeezed shut in pain as I felt the familiar cold liquid feeling running through my veins.

Opening my eyes I expected to see the man in front of me, but he was already to my left injecting another.
