Chereads / From Marchioness to Princess / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

As I go in, the doorman says, "Your highness, why were you outside?" I give him a strange look and continue walking without giving importance to what he said.

A few minutes later, I find the dining hall where we were at the beginning of the evening. I see my father, the Duchess, and Prince Alexander all seated on the couch. As I enter, everyone stands up, and the same guy from before announces me, "Introducing Princess Camille Margaret Antonia Elizabeth Rene the Third." I'm so upset I barely listen to the announcing. I go directly towards Alexander.

"Oh! My dear daughter, you finally arrive." The Duchess says. I give her a strange look. "Come here, my dear. Let me introduce you to an old friend of mine, The marquess of..."

"Lansdown," I say, cutting her in the middle of the phrase. "Right?"

"Actually, yes, dear." The Duchess says, and I smile a bit. "But how did you know? The marquess and his son, lord Alexander, are never in court. They live in the countryside of London."

"Well... I just knew it, I guess." I say very nervously about my answer as I notice that something is out of place. The Duchess thinks that I'm her daughter, and my father thinks prince Alexander is his son. Not counting the fact that everyone else feels the same.

By 8:00 pm, the Duchess decided that my father and the prince will stay for the night as it might be dangerous to go all the way to the palace where I usually live. I've been with the Duchess all the time. I have not had the opportunity to speak in private with Alexander until the Duchess said to me, "My dear Camille, please accompany our guest to the room where he'll be staying."

"Of course," I say. I've learned during these short hours that I should follow the Duchess game until I understand what is happening, and it'll stay that way until I discover what's happening.

As women are expected to do, I take Alexander's arm and start walking down the hall with Alexander. "Your highness, I think I saw you staring at me."

"Alexander, stop acting, please. I know something is happening, and I'm sure you know what it is." I say in an agitated tone.

"I'm sorry your highness I'm not sure of what I did to you, but you have my most sincere apologies."

"Oh, please! Don't play with me! You thought it would be funny to leave me in that maze alone to get lost!"

"Miss, I'm sorry to upset you more, but I have no idea what you are talking about." He says. Oh god! He's a good actor. I think. "Today, when you entered three hours after the tea party started, I saw you in my whole life."

"But... you asked me to go to the garden, and we found the..." I say, remembering the past hours. "Maze."

"Your highness, I don't know what you're talking about."

We continue walking in an awkward silence that stayed for a while until I found his dorm. "I think we are here," I say, hoping that it was the room.

He enters the dorm, and before he closes the door, he says, "I hope you have a good night, your highness."

"Thank you, Sir Alexander," I say, already giving up with the interrogation.

Quickly I try to find my room. After several attempts, I decided to find a maid who can help me. Not too far away from me, there's a maid I think trying to figure out what I'm doing.

"Oh, your highness. Are you searching for something?"

"Eh..." I'm trying to make up an excuse. "I'm trying to find my dorm. Hehe..." I couldn't find a good reason, so I told the truth.

"Oh, miss. To tell the truth that also happens to me. This place is like a maze, don't you think, miss?" She says. I'm a little bit surprised by her response.

"Yes... it's like a maze." I say, repeating what she just said. "Anyway, could you please help me find my dorm? I too tired to continue searching."

"Of course your majesty. I'm pleased to help you." She's so superficial. I wish more people could be like her.

"Thank you so much."

"Well, miss, technically is my job, but I like to help." She says. I give her a warm smile. She leads me to a door not too far away from where my room is.

I enter, and I see a giant room and a bed that looks really comfortable. There are two sofas and a dresser like mine. I know a door almost at the end of the room. I see a closet full of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen. There are lots of fancy dresses in every shade I could imagine. There was a morning dress with the most gorgeous lace in a light blue. I'm sure I'll wear it tomorrow unless this joke ends.
