Chapter 1 - Chapter One

It was a hot afternoon in Santa Barbara, a typical day for everyone to be exact. But this particularly day is entirely different for two teens who would change the course of their life forever.

In an ice cream shop, there's a two teen age girls waiting for their friends, they sat in a wooden chair with a round table in the middle, they are both eating ice cream in a medium size cup, showing the full view of the busy street with car horning and people walking.

The teenage girls name are Hazel and Adele. Hazel has a silky black hair with an almond shape eye, smooth fair skin, small long nose, with a lips of a small plum. She played with her strawberry flavored ice cream lost in her own thoughts.

While Adele on the other hand, is mindlessly checks her watch once in a while.

Adele had a blond short hair, fair skin with an oblong shape face, sculpted nose, dazzling brown eyes and a pinkish full lips.

She slams her cup of avocado flavored ice cream on the table, taking aback on her on the table..

"They are frigging taking so long!" Adele said with missed and wimped her face in frustration.

"It's been an hour and still they are not yet here!" She leans on her chair and slouches.

She gazes to Hazel sitting in front of her examining her facial expression as Hazel idly steers her spoon in her melted strawberry ice cream cup.

"Are you okay Hazel?" Adele asked.

Hazel raised her eyes to look at her and stiffly nodded.

"Probably" she looks away and gazes at the busy street.

"I'm hoping that this trekking near bank of the river won't happen today."

She turns her head toward Adele.

"Can I back out Adele, this is not my thing," Hazel ask worriedly and full of fear in her tone of voice.

Adele pouted at her and she leans forward and said.

"We've planned this a long time ago, you can't just back out now. Besides we're on an adventure here, you'll miss the fun."

"But why does a statue exist in such isolated place? It's by pondering about its gives me nothing but a Goosebumps."

"Don't be scarcely cat, we're not even so sure if the statue really exist ok! My aunt may have been fooling me anyway," Adele said in a matter of fact.

Hazel sighs "Weather it's true or not I'd probably flip out."

"Girl it's only a statue of a woman, it won't harm us at all. Besides, Jerico and I are only curious if the legend about that statue is true, and we're dying to know how the statue look like." She said with full of curiosity glittering in her eyes.

"Me too, I'm curious. But I'm scared and I don't know why?" Hazel shrugs and nodded, frightened of the inevitable possibilities that will occur in the future.

Not a moment too soon.

A sleek black Range Rover slowed down in the façade of the store. Hazel and Adele motioned their head and gazes at the car in eccentricity. The passenger seat rolled down its windshield and Adele's eyes squints at first and tapped on Hazel's hand acquiring her attention. Hazel turns her head and gazes at Adele.

"The Gang is here." Adele says without gazing at her. "Damn that son of a gun, he has a freaking new baby—let's go."

Hazel and Adele walked out of the store and headed toward the sleek black Range Rover.

"Sup, dudes." Kyla greeted them. "Are you guys excited or what?"

"I am, except for her." Adele said, gesturing a hand at Hazel's direction.

"Damn? You scared baby girl?" Jerico asked while in the driver seat peering beside Kyla.

"Am not." Hazel said, rolling her eyes in disapproval.

Adele opened the car door and hopped inside and Hazel followed her from behind.

"Did you guys cut class or something? It's a bit too early for your dismissal." Hazel asked, curiously.

"Why in the hell would we do that?" Jerico said while he put the car in gear and steer the wheel back to the road.

He continued. "The teacher gave us an early dismissal."

"And FYI, We're graduating high school, don't wanna make any violations." Kyla stated.

"Okay, whatever..." Hazel said, slumping back at the car seat.

"Though, Adele, is there legitimately a statue at the river bank?"

"I told you I'm not sure since my aunt told me there is, she even stated that it's completely a mysterious one." Adel said, shrugging

"Why did it became a mysterious one?" Jerico asked while focusing on the road.

"Honestly, I don't have a single clue okay? Although my aunt also reminded me to never, like literally never go near the statue,"

"Jerico! Turn the car around, this is insanely creeping me out to the max of shit!" Hazel yelled causing the car to swirl to the side and Jerico immediately stir the wheel back to its rightful lane.

"What in the fu_k, Hazel? Do you want us to get killed?" Adele yelled back, glaring at Hazel full on.

"Guys chill, and Hazel calm the hell down. It's only a myth anyway. You shouldn't believe anything what people say." Kyla said, remaining calm as ever. "We're only going to see if the urban legend is true, Okay?"

"What if its true?" Hazel asked.

"We just going to see the statue, that's all," Said Jerico.

"And besides the sun was still up, you dont have to be scared okay? Don't act like a child!" He added and shook his head.

Jerico was holding on the steering wheel with knuckles turning white as a daisy not knowing whether to yell at her or turn the car around in complete frustration.

Kyla reached out and patted Jerico's arm, giving it a light squeeze. "You too, calm down okay?"

Jerico tried to calm his nerves and he nodded instead of saying anything else.

Hazel on the other hand, remained calmed and tried to bury the uneasiness in her chest deep within her very soul.

It was dreary inside the car as they drove off to their destination. Hours later, the sun was still up and Jerico parked the car near the gutter. The atmosphere within the car ignited as everyone had their hearts rapidly fluttering in excitement, however, Hazel's hands were cold as ice as she fumbles with her fingers and her eyes beams out the windshield rapidly searching for any signs of danger.

"Finally guys! The wait is over! Leggo!" Adel said exuberantly that caused Hazel to jolt. Adel opened the car door and pulled Hazel along with her.

"Chill!" Jerico said while turning off the engine. "We should all-" before he could finish his sentence everyone got out of the car, leaving him speechless, he took his dslr camera and put it around his neck. "Excited punks." He smirked and got off the car.

They ambled in a straight line toward the rocky riverside and into the woods. Adel and Hazel took the lead while Jerico and Kyla followed from behind. Until eventually.

"Ouch!"

Kyla scorns when her right knee scrapes the rocky muddy ground. Immediately Jerico came to her aid. While Adel and Hazel continued trekking pass the river without the knowledge that Jerico and Kyla was left behind.

A few minutes later, Adel turns her head and immediately stopped on her tracks, Hazel gazed at her in wonder, then likewise turned to look behind her.

"Where in the hell are they?" Adel asked in astonishment.

Hazel look around.

"Oh no, their still there," Hazel said pointing, "They haven't cross the river yet. Maybe something has happened to Kyla,"

"Damn, seriously?" Adel, shakes her head and place both palms on her hips. "This is seriously time consuming. Let's go first,"

"We have to wait for them." Hazel argued, gesturing toward Kyla and Jerico as they still didn't move.

"I can't wait Hazel. C'mon girl, were almost here, we don't have all day you know." Adel said, grabbing Hazel's arm, coaxing her.

Hazel gazed for a while at Kyla and Jerico and looks like it will take too long for them to catch up, Kyla was still sitting in the ground, and then she turned her head toward Adel, she inhaled then exhaled and nodded to her in response rather than arguing with her.

Eventually, they continued trekking into the river bank shore. Adel led the way while Hazel followed from behind as her eyes stayed glued to the shoes of Adel, following her every step without glancing anything near her. Until suddenly, Adele stopped on her tracks.

Hazel slowly gazed up and stood beside her.

"Why did you stopped?" She asked a bit squeamish.

However, Adele just stood there unmoving and her eyes unblinking.

Hazel followed her gaze and saw nothing but a big tree.

She waved in front of her trying to bring her back to reality. When all of a sudden Adel raised her right arm unblinkingly and pointed.
