Chapter 5 - (a m e s t)

S U M M E R

I go and get a scoop from his cherry ice cream. Old habits don't die.

He brought me to Icy Ice Cream shop to cheer me up and catch up on thing.

We are sitting at the last booth at the corner by the window. Getting comfortable I lift my legs and put them on his lap with his one hand on his cup, he drops the spoon from his other and place's it warmly on my bare left thigh. Moving it slightly up and down.

I feel the tingly sensation throughout my whole body awakening the butterflies from their slumber. His single touch messing me up.

"When did you land?" I ask 'cause he didn't call or text me he was coming.

He places his cup on the table then brings his hand on my other thigh. This one is cold due to the ice cream. I shiver and goosebumps erupt on my skin. Seeing my reaction he rubs on me to keep me warm.

"At around 6:45 pm." He smiles, showing of those damn gorgeous straight white teeth.

"I came to your house but your mom told me you went to a party. Not to mention Drake's party." He says.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I couldn't bring myself to look him in the eyes, I just play with my fingers. The guilt of wasteful feeling I spent on Drake, to find out he was with Kelly and the tiredness of trying to lose my feelings for Matt which was to a dead end. I feel ashamed. I feel ashamed of what I did to myself, to my true feeling.

He cups my right cheek with his left hand making me look into his eyes. As I do I see sadness and remorse as well as guilt but he looks scared too. Something happened. Something happened that made him feel this way and I knew it wasn't me or the situation we had encountered. It was far more.

What happened while he was in Italy?

What made him feel guilty?

Why does he look guilty?

Why is he sad?

Why is he scared? Matt is never scared.

"Matt, what is wrong?" I ask my voice full of concern and worry as well as my eyes pouring out my emotions.

Now, he looks down to his hand on my thigh. He drops his left hand from my cheek and goes to hold my hand. Squeezing it.

"Matt." I call.

Why isn't he answering me back?

Was it really that bad?

"Matt, what happened?" I can feel my tears are on the edge. I hate seeing him like this, I can't stand it.

He tilts his head slightly and I see his tear running down. I immediately move close to him and hug him so tight as I possibly could. He hides his face in my neck and sobs. Completely sobs shaking.

Matt never cries. EVER.

I couldn't keep it together as I break down with him but I know I must try to be strong for him so I cut down my tears with all my might.

I rub his back slowly soothing him as well as rocking him back and forth. He snakes his arms around my waist and pulls me closer as well as burying his head deeper.

"I'm sorry."

"I'm so sorry."

"I'm so sorry!" He sobs hard.

"I didn't mean to," He continues.

"I'm so so sorry."

"I was the one who deserved it!" His arms held on my waist tighter and squeezes it.

"Shh, it's not your fault." I sooth him, rocking.

"It's not your fault." I whisper into his ears.

"But it is, Summi. It's all my fault!" He whisper's back with a broken voice.

"You don't know what I did."

"Then tell me." I speak, bringing his head out of his hiding spot and cupping his cheeks, looking him in his red puffy eyes.

"Summi... I... I got... into a ca... Car accident." He stutters tears freely dropping from his eyes.

My eyes widened.

"When?!" I exclaim, my voice all laced with worry.

"Two weeks ago." He answers, his arms still on my waist, squeezing as he answers back.

"Are you alright?"

"Are you hurt?"

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Were you hospitalized?"

"Are you okay now?"

"Do you have serious injuries?"

"How did that happen?" I freak out scared.

I couldn't hold them back now. I almost lost my best friend!!

Tears, tears, tears they washed down my face like a massive rain.

He brings his thumb and whips then off then strokes my hair bringing me closer and hugging me again.

"Don't worry, love. I'm fine." He whispers lowly into my ears still soothing my hair.

"But it's all my fault, Summer."

"It's all my fault. If I hadn't..." He sobs trailing off.

"Excuse me, are you guys okay?" The waiter asks.

Then realization hits me - we are still in the ice cream shop - I totally forgot.

I know Matt couldn't have a voice to answer.

"Ye... Yes. Sor... sorry." I answer him with a shaky voice.

I pull out of the hug and go to my purse.

"No, I got it." Matt speaks his voice still rasp.

"No, we are splitting." I deadpan, he just gives me his weak smile.

"Haha, I really missed you, you know that?"

"Of course." I chirp but it was weak. Ever since I got my allowance if me and Matt go out to grab food or a snack we would always split. He was absolutely against it but I forced him to. We are equals even if he is stinking rich.

We split the bill leaving a generous tip and got into his home car - BMW M6 in black.

"Your place or mine?" I ask.

"Yours. Always." He responds.

I don't know what it is but he loves being in my house especially my room. And I'm not complaining.

As we got there the lights were still on. I look at the time on my phone, it read 8:55 pm. I didn't expect to come back so soon.

He parks in my drive way and we got out. Head to the front door. When we enter we saw the TV was on but no one was watching it then we hear talking in the dinning room. We make our way and see that my parents still having dinner.

Mom looks up and sees me then Matt. Her face immediately lights up.

"I'm so glad you two made it to dinner. We were just starting." She squeals excited.

She always loved the Prince's. She would always see me and Matt together and tells us how cute we are. Of course I would blush.

"Matt, when did you come home?" Dad asks. He also loved the boys, always saw Gab and Matt as his other sons.

"Just a few hours ago. I came straight to your house first after I settled my luggage at home." Matt answers.

"You must be exhausted. Take a sit, Daisy made lasagna. Your favorite, right?" Dad asks smiling.

"Yes. Thank you. I have been missing Mrs. Clain's lasagna too much." Matt answers excitedly.

"Let me get another plate." Mom leaves the table.

"Where's Cole?" He asks.

Yeah, where is Cole?

"He is out with his friends."

I take my sit by my dad's left side and Matt next to me. Mom returns with a spear plate placing it in front of him and me.

We said grace and right as I was going to grab the bread Matt slaps my hand away.

"What the hell?" I glare at him.

"We need wash our hands first." He smiles. I huff, Matt and his hygiene. I got use to them at some point and became a habit but I am really hungry right now. I get up from my chair, head to the bathroom as Matt following in hot pursuit.

As we both got into the bathroom in the corner of the corridor Matt closes the door softly behind us.

He snakes his arms around my waist tugs me to his chest and I leap softly in surprise. He goes to my ear feeling his warm breath around my ear and trailing leisurely down to the side of my neck.

"Can I stay tonight?" He whispers.

"Of course." I smile hugging his arms around me. He kisses me softly on my jaw and pecks my hair.

"Let's have dinner then."

"C'mon, wash, wash." He sings making me giggle.

We went back to the table.

"Matt honey, have you been crying?" Mom asks while placing her fork down.

"Yeah, you too honey?" Dad follows.

"We just missed each other so much." Matt tells them both. My mom responds in an awe as she always does.
