Alex sat in the shadows of the baloney overlooking the huge , rusted cage that was centered in the middle of the small room, taking up most of the space. The ring was filled with the blood of past victims, and Alex knew that the most desperate.
The crowd started to pour in, waves pushing each other rushing to see grown men beat each other to death. The speaker appeared , bending down to fit into the same entrance of the cage. " Gentlemen and ladies, for those of you returning, you know the drill, but if you are new here , let's go over the rules. First, if you went to place your bet there, Peter and Sel would be coming around with a bag. Please place your bet money in there after telling Johnny over there by the board who you will be betting for. Okay, do you all understand?" The crowd screamed loudly, "I can not hear you , scream louder." The speaker said, screaming into the mic,the crowd screamed louder this time a shiver of excitement went through the speaker, the crowd loudly chanting the name of the unbeatable campaign of the death ring for over three weeks now. "Death,Death,Death!" They chanted loudly, stomping their feet, making the whole room shake.
On cue a monster of a man, the size of a mountain appeared, his long tongue out , facing the crowd he started pulling the fence of the cage , it barely holding on while the man shook on it. He was ripped. Everywhere you looked, muscle would tense and relax. Women were screaming his name, wanting the name to sign their chest or anything that they were holding in their hands.
"Everyone, his your favorite, his held this title for the longest , its your one and only DEATH!." The speaker spoke making the crowd wilder, he carried on the restless crowd, silenced with one move to the heavy man next to the speaker. " Right, the rules here now are simple those of you that were to fight will come out and step into the ring, and whoever wins will receive a large sum of money, alright." The crowd was silent. No one dared to move forward. No one dared to move. People looked around at each other, wondering who was foolish enough to dare step in.
A thin, fragile man walked out first. People stared at him wide eyes.He looked as if the wind could just bowl him over. "Me, I would like to fight." He said weakly . The man wasn't old, but it wasn't too young either. He looked as if he were if his late twenties. The crowd busted out laughing in sync. "You sure you want to do this son you don't look so good, huh?" The speaker said, eyeing him up and down. "I am sure , sir." the man said while clawing at his arm that was filled with the needle marks. " OK, well then place your bets people."The speaker said before asking the man, " Well , what is your name, son?"
"I..It's Mike.." The man managed to spit out. "OK, well, everyone, give it up for Mike. Now please remember to place your bets." The speaker said loudly while exiting the ring. "Right son, you can go in there now." He said, gesturing with his his head to the entire.
The man walked in without a second thought. Death towered over him, each standing on the opposite side of each other. A bell went of signaling to the two fighters to fight, and Death moved in for the kill. He sent the fragile man flying across the ring and smashing into the iron fencing. He didn't move after that laying still, blood pouring out of his mouth.
Immediately afterward, two men rushed in, dragging away the unconscious man. The next matches resulted in the same way, people being dragged out of the ring, a few missing teeth, others with broken arms and legs and some on almost tasting death itself.
The crowd was getting uneasy, wanting more from these fights. From the space separating the seats, a man emerged, his muscles rolling beneath this tight shirt that clung to him like a second skin. The speaker rose from the seat he was sitting in and welcomed the man guiding him to the cage. Alex looked at the man, unimpressed as the evening had uneventful. These fights were supposed to help him hire men for his organization. However, it had all been fruitless.
"What is your name, boy?" The speaker asked as he did for all those before him. "Ruth." The man said in a low voice still loud enough to mesmerize those closest to hear. Both men and women lend in to hear more. They tried to look at his face, but a black mask cloaked it , only making his eyes visible , those deep , deep pools of ocean blues and hues of bright specks of gold. His hair shone waves of raven black could be seen as he walked into the light, only centered, in the middle of the cage. He stepped into the cage, bending to enter.
"Alright, place your bets people, this one looks promising." The speaker announced. The crowd held their breath, and with anticipation, they waited for the bell to ring, and as it did, Death rushed forward with no hesitation, only to go crashing into the iron fencing the same fence the first man flew into.
Ruth ,looking at Death with a bored expression and with little emotion in his eyes. Death became more enraged as he began to throw punches recklessly and mindlessly. Ruth moved effortlessly, as if he were gracefully dancing. He went behind Death in a swift movement, punching him with enough force to have him step back, not waiting for the man to recover. Ruth swept him off his feet, Death hit the ground with a thud and was left stunned. Ruth then stepped on his chest, placing enough pressure to make him struggle for breath. He then stepped off, waiting in one of the corners, wanting his opponent to wake up, and Death did just that woke up shakingly, struggling to stand straight, the crowd were screaming loudly some supporting Death , others wanting Ruth to end him. After the bear of the man stood , he ran at a speed of lightning, giving death, a deadly kick to the chest. Making the man fall for a final time. The fallen men did not get backup, Alex sat there staring at Ruth , to him, the man did not look like much, but now, looking at how quickly he has finished the fighter so fast. What puzzled him the most was that if he wanted to finish this fight at the beginning, he could have with no problem, so why did he wait?.
Alex looked at the men standing next to him. The two nodded at him, agreeing with him that Ruth is good enough to hire. The three man let the balcony's view to go after the mystery man. In the ring , Ruth was standing in the middle with the speaker holding his hand up in the air. As Alex got closer he could see the blood of the other fighter coating the hands of the winner. Even though he only landed a few punches and kicks but the damage done was fatal, but not life threatening. Feeling a heavy gaze on him, looking up he was met with mesmerizing blue eyes , he was taken back, those eyes were picing, yet he got lost in them. Breaking the contact , he cleared his throat "So you are the winner than , come with us and we will give you the reward. " He spoke awkwardly , stunning the two man next to him. Ruth followed the men wordlessly and silently. The four men walked into a back room behind the main building where the fight club was, they entered a make shift office, there was one hanging light, illuminating the tiny room. Behind them in the building the crowd were screaming , cheering because of those that won the bets and angry shouts from those that lost.
Alex took the seat behind the desk and the two main with him took to his sides. Ruth was left standing in the middle of the room waiting for one of them to speak. " Here." Alex throwing a bag on the table. Ruth walked slowly towards the table, unzipping the bag, to find bundles of money all piled inside the bag. " Thank you but I do not need this." He said his voice echoing of the thin walls of the wooden building. His voice did things to Alex, things that he was unsure of, things that he did not want to find out, he was about to speak again but Ruth spoke first, "I want to join you instead." He said confidently, his voice smooth and melodic. " Very , well then." Alex said rampaging through some of the drawers in the desk before pulling out a file containing a contract.
"Please sign here then."Alex said opening the file and pointing to the line under the terms and conditions on the contract. Ruth took the pen from one of the men and signed the document which was snatched from him the minute he finished. He looked up at Alex, with a questioning gaze but Alex did not notice he was too busy reading through his personal information. "Right, here where you have to meet us tomorrow make sure you reach them at 8 , the club opens at 9 so just be early. If you need anything phone this number." Alex said after reading the information in the file, he took the pen from Ruth and began to scribble information on a piece of paper, he tore it off from the page and handed it too Ruth. "Tell me, why didn't you end the fighter at the start ogmf the fight, why did you wait for him to strike first." Alex asked, while leaning back into his chair , his gaze focusing on the other man's mask rather than his eyes, he knew he should have asked him to take of his mask but due to his own discomfort that this man caused him he did not. " Because if you strike first you are most likely to lose, that's way." Ruth replied looking at him .
After hearing his answer Alex did not know how to answer, so he just nodded his head. "Cain will be coming to fetch you." He instead answered pointing to the man on his left. Ruth looked at him and nodded, "You may leave now." Alex said rubbing his head. Ruth bowed and made his way out , Alex couldn't help but look after him.
"You think his good?" he asked turning towards Cain. " Yea, better than that rubbish we had witnessed earlier." Alex agreed with him. " Make sure to gather up the boys and bring them to the club." He said closing his eyes remembering those deep blue eyes that almost drowned him. " Yes, sir."
