Chapter 74 - Icy glares

Melissa came hurriedly right after she heard about Cindy but when she walked in she almost burst into a laugh. Alex gave a bright smile, "Hey! You're finally here" while Cindy glared at him with murderous intent.

Melissa: What the hell happened here?

She looked at both of them sitting on separate beds but their hands tied together with a strap as if someone was planning to runaway.

Right after Melissa, a nurse walked in looking quite guilty. Cindy's glare shifted from Alex to her as she gritted her teeth. Seeing her reaction, the nurse took a step back out of fear.

Alex: Cindy, stop hissing at her like a cat. She did nothing wrong.

Melissa tried to hold her laugh as she looked at Cindy getting angrier.

Melissa: Well, someone can tame her.

Cindy's eyes shifted to Melissa, "Shut up. I wouldn't have been here if you had bought his food and I would've been with my kids instead!"

Melissa: But it was you who was insis—

Cindy: I said shut up!

Melissa was quick enough to understand that Cindy doesn't want her to say that in front of Alex.

Melissa: Okay guys, I'll leave now and Cindy I'm taking the kids with me.

Cindy: Alright, go safely.

Melissa: Bye, take care of each other you two.

Alex smiled at her as he waved then looked at Cindy.

Cindy looked away and pouted, "I'll go to sleep", and pulled the strap hard almost pulling Alex off the bed. Right when Cindy laid down, the nurse took the chance to inject the prescibed medicine inside Alex.

After she was done, Alex smiled at her softly making her heart skip a beat, "Sorry for the inconvenience". The nurse smiled shyly, "No, it's alright. You won't have to apologize I'm fine", she paused for a while and thought how pleasant it will be if she could have his number. She gathered some courage and opened her mouth to speak, "Hope you don't mind but can I—" . She stopped abruptly due to uneasiness caused by someone watching her secretly. Alex still looking at her waiting for her to say the words he already knew, he had no plan to stop her because he could feel the glare, which was causing the nurse uneasiness, since she came near him. The nurse closed her eyes and took a deep breath, right when she opened her eyes instead of looking at Alex she made an eye contact with those icy glares coming from underneath the blanket. She could feel the chills down her spine as she gulped in the words she better not say anymore.

Alex: You were going to say something.

Nurse: oh um... hope you don't mind but can I...

She quickly tried to think of an excuse and her eyes fell on the thermometer on the table, "Can I take your temperature?"

Alex looked at her dumbfounded as she butchered his plan, "Yeah, sure". She smiled and quickly took his temperature.

Nurse: oh, it's normal.

Alex: How much—

Before he could say anything she quickly took her stuff and left.

Cindy tried to hold her laugh but Alex could see her shaking underneath the blanket, "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Cindy: to catch you clowning, Night.

Alex: Hm.

Right after reaching the hotel, Melissa took the kids to the room assigned to her and called Matthew. The kids were sound asleep by the time Matthew came to her.

Matthew: What happened? What did you want to talk about?

Melissa hesitated a bit but still spoke up, "Alex knows about us."

Matthew: How? You told him?

Melissa shook her head.

Matthew: Then?

Melissa: He overheard it when Wilson was talking with Davis.

Matthew: I see.

For five minutes they sat there silently without uttering a word.

Matthew: Mel...

Melissa looked up at him and was surprised seeing tears streaming down his eyes.
