Chapter 4 - She found someone new?

Cindy: Alex?

She was shocked seeing him here. 'When did he get in, why didn't I notice?' So many questions crossed her mind and the answer was one... you were sleeping.

She walked in furiously, she could just smack his stern face right now but then she noticed Mark who was already mad at her.

Alan took a sip from his ice coffee and said, "you two know each other?"

Cindy: he used to be my neighbor, we never talked much.

Alan: ooohh

On the other hand, Alex was surprised seeing her but didn't show it. 'So she works here.' He had his all-time-cold face on. Didn't even throw a second glance at her.

Her blood was boiling but she held it back and put the file on desk.

Cindy: Boss..I'm deeply sorry for my today's behaviour.. a stupid creature crossed my path today *glared at Alex then looked down* I'm really sorry for everything. I didn't mean it. For few days my mother's health isn't well and I had official works for which I didn't get enough sleep. I hope you'd understand...

Since Cindy was a kid, while making an apology she always looked down. She was always taught to be polite which never worked when she was with Alex. For which she loved to be with him no matter how much they fought cause she could be her true self.

Hearing Cindy's mother is sick Alex got worried. He wanted to ask her what happened? He wanted to see her. But the circumstances wasn't with him.

Seeing their behaviour Alan could deduce something was wrong between them. Thinking it he chuckled. Alex and Cindy both looked at him.

There wasn't any change of expression on Mark's face. He took the file and passed it to Alex. Cindy looked shocked, her beautiful blue eyes widened, 'why did he pass my file to him?' She thought.

Mark: Mr.Alexander Robinson is our new chief editor.

Cindy was shocked and dejected hearing Alex will be her colleague and also senior.Cindy was both a journalist and sometimes worked as a side editor but now all the files will be sent to Alex.

She didn't extend the conversation.

Cindy: yes boss. Once again, I'm sorry.

Mark: it's okay, hope it won't happen again.

Cindy: it won't, pardon me for my unprofessionalism.

Mark:mm

Cindy walked out of the room and Alex stood there with her file in his hand.

Mark: Hope you'll enjoy working here Mr. Robinson.

Alex: I will, thank you.

Alan: I'll warn you beforehand make sure you understand who is Mark and who is Alan. ;)

Alex chuckled.

Alex: I will. I will take my leave now. Thank you once again.

Mark: Peter show him his table.

Peter: follow me Mr. Robinson.

They both walked out of the room

Alan: you think something is going on between Cindy and Alex?

Mark: Stop gossiping Alan.

Alan whispered under his breathe: boring..

Mark: I heard you.

Alan: ugh

***

Cindy completed rest of her work trying to divert her mind but now she will have to face the same person for who she wanted to divert.

She took a deep breathe. 'Control your anger. It ain't that hard'

(Of course she is lying duh)

She took her files and walked toward chief editor's office. She knocked on the door and a stern voice said "come in."

Cindy tried to keep it together really hard.

She walked in with no expression on her face.

Cindy: here's all the files.

She was going to leave but Alex called out "Cindy". Her eyes widened 'what does he want?'

Cindy: Yes Mr. Robinson

She tried to control her anger but she was almost failing.

Alex: How's Mrs. Anderson? What happened to her?

Cindy was surprised but kept her composure.

Cindy: it's none of your business.

Alex: she used to care for me and I did too.

Cindy: that was 8 years ago.

They both stared at each other, their eyes looked cold and feelingless. The silent was broken when Cindy's phone rang.

Cindy: Excuse me.

Cindy walked out to pick up the phone. Alex looked at the white ceiling and sighed.

Soon it was 6pm and it was time to leave.

Alex took his bag and was going to leave when he heard Cindy's voice.

Cindy: Baby you don't have to pick me up..

Alex didn't want to overhear it but he still did. He looked up and walked away. 'She found someone new?'
