The yells became more distinct as I forced my way through the trees. Sprinting in the general direction I heard I arrived at the source of the voice.
"Grrrrr"
"L-Leave me alone!"
A young girl crawled back into a tree a few feet in front of me. She a worn black buttoned shirt with a white skirt under. Scanning her appearance I noticed she had two small black horns that perturbed out the side of her head.
'Well, that's new.' I thought to myself analyzing the girl. She had a terrified expression on her face looking at the beast approaching her. A bear the size of a car was slowly approaching the girl. The bottom half of its legs were clad in a strange metal, but It still kept the texture of fur as well. Its claws were extremely long, not resembling a normal bear.
'This isn't good if this goes on that girls gonna get eaten. I could run, but If I leave them it might come after me next. And this is the first person I've seen in this world. Sh*t what should I do.' I hesitated to take action as I weighed my options. From the size of the bear, it was no doubt that I could get killed instantly if I was hit.
'Argh, what should I do.' I had little time to make a decision. There was no telling how long It would take to find someone else after here. And I also didn't exactly like the fact of letting someone die right in front of me. Just then I made my decision.
I tiptoed around the trees, slowly approaching the bear from behind as It closed in on the girl. I drew my knife, waiting for the right moment to strike, I watched.
"Grrrahhhh"
The bear let out a roar, raising its claw to strike her.
'NOW!'
I lunged toward the bear putting as much force as I could in my right leg, clearing the small distance quickly. The bear had raised its body exposing its bottom half. Jumping into its chest I plunged my knife as deep as I could where I assumed the heart would be.
"Slash"
"Arghhh!"
I tumbled backward leaving the knife deep in the bear. My arm was bleeding from the large gash the bear left on my arm. However, from the looks of it, my strike was more effective. The bear struggled to try to reach the knife lodged in its chest as blood rushed out of it. I had inflicted a fatal wound.
"Arghhh Sh*t!" I cried out in pain gripping my bleeding arm. This had been the most pain I had ever felt in my life. On the bright side, the bear was worse off than me. It's lifeless body laid there with a slit in its heart.
"U-um, are you ok Mr?" The girl I had noticed crawled over to me with a guilty look on her face. With her being closer only a few inches away from me she took a look at my wound. I was able to make out more distinct features because I was so close. She looked to be around the same age as me. She had long silky black hair with red accents that complimented her red eyes well. Her pale white skin made the freckles on her face standout. The horns I had seen earlier were more detailed, they looked like they were made of black crystal. I blushed as she brought herself closer to me.
"Y-your hurt! I'll go get some help right away! I'm so sorry this is all my fault. Stay right here please."
"No, I'll go too. Who knows what else is out there. Plus two is better than on right?" I said forcing a smile.
"Are you sure? Doesn't it hurt?" Her voice was soft and gentle, a complete contrast to her appearance.
"Yeah, but I'll manage. It shouldn't keep me from walking." I winched as I gripped My arm.
"Ok follow me. my parents and I live not too far from here. They can help you."
"I'd like that haha.."
Pulling the knife out the bear's chest I followed the girl through the forest. We walked the opposite direction I had came until we came to a path. The dirt path was well carved out, leaving no plants or grass on it.
"My house is at the end of this path, we're almost there so try to hold on please." She said pleadingly as she looked back at me. Our eyes met for a moment. I could tell she felt guilty for what happened.
"You don't have to feel bad. It was my choice to step in." I said plainly as she took her gaze off me.
"You still got hurt because of me though. So... Thank you... Thanks for saving me back there." She said still facing forward.
The sudden apology caught me off guard. However, I didn't think much of it.
"Anyway, what were you doing out there all by yourself. Did your parents know you left?" I asked curiously.
"No, they didn't actually. I snuck out... I felt a little... trapped..."
"Trapped?"
"Ah, look where here at the house!" She the conversation off, I couldn't help but feel she was about to say something important.
It was a complete understatement to call the building in front of me a mere" house". My mouth gawked open as the so-called house looked more like some sort of medieval castle. The large castled blended in with the trees around it concealing it from view. A rock-like wall surrounded the property, and we were meet with two large gates at the entrance.
"So-so do you live here," I asked amazed as she casually pulled open the gates.
"Yep, sure do." She said innocently. "Does your house not look like this?"
"N-not exactly haha. Not nearly as, what's the word, extravagant." I smile weakly as we made our way through the gates.
We had been walking on a brick path for all of five seconds before we were abruptly stopped.
"Zora!"
A tall man with a slim build shouted in front of us. He wore a long gray robe with numerous symbols along the sleeves. His long grey hair was slicked back revealing his face in its entirety. The man ran towards us with a smile, until he noticed me behind the girl. His happy expression turned cold, the man recently a few yards away from me, seemingly disappeared in the blink of an eye. Before I had time to even realize what was going on, the man stood beside me holding a sword at my throat.
