Chapter 8 - A New Discovery

"Identify yourself immediately." The man said, pressing his sword against my neck. His bright yellow eyes looked down on me menacingly.

"Stop right now Kirin! This boy is a guest of mine and I will not tolerate you disrespecting him." The girl hissed at the mean staring daggers into him.

" I apologize lady Zora but I cannot overlook this individual. Everything about him is suspicious." The man named Kirin said analyzing me.

"From a glance, he's not a demon because he has no horns. After looking closely I can also confirm that this boy Is no elf, and obviously, he is not a giant. Therefore I cannot allow him any further until he identifies exactly what he is." Kirin said pressing lightly to draw blood.

"This "boy" saved my life, I sense no evil coming from him and I'm positive you don't as well. Just because he isn't a part of our race doesn't mean he's untrustworthy. If this continues any further I will be consulting with my father about your current position." Zora held her head high as she walked over to us.

"Do I make myself clear?"

"Y-yes my lady." Kirin lowered his sword, wiping it clean of blood. What happened next astonished me. The sword once in his hand was enveloped by a wavy essence, letting go of the sword it completely disappeared in thin air.

"I do apologize... um... ugh... Oh right! I never got your name? I am sincerely sorry I didn't ask." Zora said bowing gracefully.

"Oh, aha... yeah my names Shin. It's fine you don't have to bow I didn't ask your name either." I said embarrassed waving my hands frantically.

Lifting herself she gave me an innocent smile.

"Zora hazelin, nice to meet you. Well, Shin, I apologize on Kirin's behalf. He can be a little umm... let's just say overprotective. Although I am also curious as to what you are. Where are you from Shin?"

'What is this an investigation? I can't just say outright that I'm from another world. Crap what should I do? I have no idea what the places here are like.'

"Ah..haha I can't remember really, I just woke up in the forest a few days ago with no memory."

'God that was an awful excuse!'

"I see. That's unfortunate. Well, this isn't the place to talk. Let's head inside and look at your wound ok?" Zora wore a serious expression looking at my arm.

"I think that'd be good."

We entered the enormous "house" through a large set of wooden doors. The walls were made of stone but were well refined. The place was well kept. Kirin leads us through a few doors and hallways before stopping at a red door.

"Boy-... Shin, you will be treated inside, please go in and wait for a short moment."

"Thank you, Kirin." Giving him a small smirk, I went inside Zora followed me in after dismissing him for other duties.

"Is he your servant or something?" I asked curiously.

"He's a personal advisor that was assigned to me for a while. He can be pretty annoying sometimes but he's a good person. Ugggh Jeez It's so hard putting on a tough act all the time. The geezers here are so stiff."

I was surprised by her sudden change in attitude. She gestured for me to sit next to her on a bed beside us.

"Do you not like it here?" I asked.

"Not all the time but it's fun sometimes I guess. Anyway, I'm assuming you don't have a place to stay huh?"

"No haha If you couldn't tell by my clothes, I had been living in the forest for a few days."

"Ah I see, If you don't mind you could stay here for a while. You don't have to worry I'll keep all the old coots off you." She said puffing her chest and smiling.

"I would but... I don't exactly know anything at all. Like I said I woke up with no memories. I don't even know where we are. It'd be a real pain to deal with." Just then I got a brilliant idea. I leaned in closer to Zora putting only a few inches between us.

"Could you teach me?" I asked, sparkles lighting in my eyes.

"um... ugh..." Zora stumbled on her words trying to find what to say.

"Pretty pleaseeee? I promise I can be of use soon if you do." I unconsciously inched closer.

"Y-your too close!" She yelled, her pale cheeks reddened.

"Oh sorry, I didn't realize."

"It's ok... Fine I'll teach you everything I know, but on one condition."

"What is it."

Zora looked at me with a nervous expression. She seemed to fumble on her words before she could speak her mind. Standing up she pointed at me.

"You have to promise to be my friend!"

"Oh is that all? Then gladly!"

I was slightly confused on the condition of our agreement. I'd expected something more serious like I had to be her servant or something.

"Creak"

The red door we came through swung open as a young demon came in. Her pink hair parted down the middle, extending down to her hips. Her horns were large and shiny, curving horizontally around her head like a crown. She wore a brown slim sweats that exposed her shoulders, she had a ninja type look.

"Are you Shin?"

"Yes that's me."

"Kirin has instructed me to heal your injuries. Please have a seat so we can get started." Gesturing to one of the multiple beds in the room.

I sat on the bed waiting for my treatment. The young demon leaned down to me and placed her hands on my wound.

"What are yo-"

A green light emitted from her hands, giving my entire body a sense of warmth. The clawed wound which I assumed would leave a scar, was sealed in a matter of seconds leaving no trace of injury behind.

"How did you do that?" I asked the girl. I was utterly amazed at what I just saw, it was the same feeling I felt when I saw Kirin's sword disappear.

"It seems I have a lot of teaching ahead of me if you don't even know what xoul is." Zora chuckled

"What's a xoul?"

"Sigh, I'll explain later but right now you should get some sleep, It's been a long day." She said heading to the door.

"I'll show you around the castle tomorrow, It's really big so make sure you have energy!" She said excitedly.

The strange girl with healing powers followed behind her as she left, leaving me alone in the room. The bed was soft and comfortable, allowing me to sink in. I gazed at the ceiling as I brought my thoughts together.

'Is xoul something like magic?' I thought making sense of the things I had seen. My body sank in the bed giving a tired feeling. Calming my mind I drifted to sleep in my new bizarre environment.
