She was inside the next second, and Allen's face was visible from the entrance, both of them looking towards Stella with alarm and anger mixed with a little fear mixed in it.
June's expression underwent a huge number of changes as she recognized Penelope's scent before she looked at her, then looked at Stella, then looked at how comfortable the two looked together, and finally decided to flit her eyes from one girl to another.
"What . . . . " June began, but was cut off by Allen rushing towards Stella and taking her in his arms. She frowned as Allen backed away from Penelope, Stella in his arms.
Allen had already been terrified after that conversation with June about something happening to Stella. His heart had actually start to beat faster when he smelled another vampire mixed with Stella's scent and his limbs had gone cold.
And Allen was sure his heart would have burst out of his chest when he poked his head in the attic and saw shortcake holding hands with the other vampire he had smelled. Allen was sure that shortcake was getting fed on, and his mind stopped functioning. Allen hadn't stopped to think that Simon had been with Stella and he wouldn't let her be fed on, not without a fight at least. Or that June was a way stronger vampire than either him or Simon, or to analyse why she wasn't rushing to protect shortcake.
All that had flashed in front of his eyes had been his own life before he was turned, June's desire for his blood. How he had been able to feel how much she needed his blood, and her pain when she tried to restrain herself. And his own condition when, despite all of June's efforts, some of the vampires had secretly fed on him, not believing him to be June's soulmate.
What little of Stella he had seen when she had been recovering from the Zukao brothers also flashed in front of him as he rushed and took shortcake in his arms. He grabbed shortcake and put as much distance as he could between her and this unknown vampire.
After putting as much distance as he physically could between Penelope and Stella, Allen started to check all over her for any bite wounds. He had checked all of her exposed skin and was on the point of taking off Stella's t-shirt to make sure she was fine when June shriek brought him out of his frenzy.
"What?!?" Allen asked, looking up from Stella towards June and blinking rapidly, wondering what was wrong. "ALLEN!!!!! What are you doing?!?!" Stella shrieked, wringing herself out of Allen's grasp and looking at him with a disbelieving expression.
"I . . . . . I . . . . . " Allen stammered, wondering why both June and Stella were looking at him like he had gone crazy. It was then that he noticed Simon, looking a little less like he was worried Allen had gone crazy and more like he didn't want to see what would happen next.
It was then, after looking at the three of his friends, that Allen's eyes wandered to Penelope. He saw her expression, and was even more confused at seeing that she did not look angry or ready to attack. Not at all like a person who had lost her favorite meal, she rather looked . . . . . . a little bit bored.
