"I said it isn't possible that there is any venom in Stella's system." Simon spoke, looking out of the window.
Den's voice steadily grew louder as he spoke, "I heard that damn it!! Why?!?! Why is I am asking."
Simon turned his head to look into Den's eyes and spoke, "Do you know what's the main difference between our bodies and humans'?"
"You mean aside from us drinking their blood and having this fu*king venom through our system?" Den snapped again.
Simon shushed him and spoke, "I'm not talking about that. Do you know the main biological difference?"
Den rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, "Oh, I don't know. Maybe the fact that we are hard as steel and get sunburns that could actually kill us?"
Simon nodded and continued, "These are all major differences. But these do not appear instantly in newly turned vampires. These can take days, months, even years to surface."
"What are you getting at damn it!?!" Den was staring to grown angry again.
"Calm down Sharp. It's not like we can do anything by getting angry." Simon snapped at him.
Den huffed and sunk in a chair. "Okay start your science lesson." he spoke.
Simon glared at him, "It's not a science lesson. All I'm trying to say is that the biggest difference in own and humans' bodies, and the one the least visible, is our rate of heart beats."
Simon stopped and looked at Den. When he didn't say anything, Simon continued, "The normal human heart beats around 70 times in a minute. We, on the other hand, our heart beat is considerably slow. Our hearts normally beat about 50 times every minute."
Den raised an eyebrow and Simon continued, "Rate of heart beat is a decisive factor while deciding if a transformation went badly or not. The heart beat starts to slow down as soon as vampire venom is injected in the body. And the transformation is complete when the heart beat reaches around 50. The other changes appear slowly over time."
Den raised an eyebrow, "And her heart beat was?"
Simon got up with a sigh, "I took Stella's pulse when I repaired her bone. It was about 70. That's why I'm saying there's no venom in her body."
"But that brings us back to the start." Den replied with a sigh.
"Yeah. But at least we can eliminate the most horrifying possibility. Anyway, I'm going to clean the blood." Simon said and Den nodded.
"By the way, Sharp. . . .?" Simon spoke, standing at the door of his store of medicines.
"Yeah?" Den replied in a tired voice.
"Who do you actually see lying on the bed right now?" Simon asked, his voice filled with melancholy.
Den looked up with a start, and he would have rushed to punch Simon in the face but realised with horror that Simon was actually right. "How. . . .How do you. . . . . .?" Den stammered.
"You are never this angry when Stella is hurt. There's only one person whose pain can bring out so much anger and grief in you." Simon replied with a shrug, went inside and closed the door, leaving Den with his thoughts.
Den looked at the sleeping Stella and spoke with a sigh, "Helen. . . . . . . ."
