Chapter 27 - Victory!

My ponytails were moving with the wind as I gazed at him. He looked up from his book to see who disturbed him while he was reading. I can say for sure that he did not expect a young girl.

I tried very hard to get up on the bench; it was too tall for me. The boy was annoyed by my grunts and he decided to take action. With a stern face, very unusual for a young boy, he picked me up like I was a box and placed me on the bench and dusted his hands. At this very moment, I decided to be his friend.

"Hi! My name is Amelia. What's yours?" I asked him. He glanced at me before he resumed reading the book. I did not know what book he was reading since I could not read. Seeing that he did not respond, I pouted.

"Heeeeey!" I yelled to catch his attention. He slammed his book shut as if he knew that I would not let him read. Meh, I did not feel sorry for disturbing him. My main motive was 'make a new friend'.

"You're quite annoying, aren't you?" He said while he pinched my cheeks.

"I'm nah annoyi" I disagreed with him. Since he was pinching my cheeks, I could not speak properly. With a satisfied smirk, he let go. I rubbed my cheeks and glared at him. "Play with me" I tugged at his sleeve while I looked at him with pleading eyes. I was so sure that he'll agree, but to my surprise he did not. In fact, he was very cold.

"No. I don't have time for such silly things. Go find someone your age." He said sternly. (No way to treat a five-year-old)

"But, I don't have many friends, they think that I'm weird." I said while tears welled up in my eyes.

His heart softened a bit, perhaps he had experienced the same thing too. He was not as stern as before, but he still refused me. "Regardless of which, I am too busy studying the theory of evolution. Go play alone."

I should have stopped bothering, but I really did not want to be alone. I was too afraid to approach Luke after the incident, and I could not go back inside because I was one hundred percent sure he tattled. My mom and dad are rarely at home. They were always busy with work. I saw my mom more often than my dad because of their jobs. I hated being alone because I was always alone. No matter how much we fought, at the end of the day, Luke had me and I had Luke. We rarely saw our parents.

"Please, I won't disturb you. I'll just sit here. You can read to me." I suggested. He nodded because he did not mind. I made the mistake of asking him too many questions. Well, I had no idea what he was reading. As a five-year-old, I had no clue about evolution or Charles Darwin. Honestly, no five-year-old would know.

"Just shut up! Leave, don't stay here." The boy shouted after being annoyed by my questions.

After hearing him yell at me, my little heart could not take it. I started crying immediately. "Waaah! I hate you! I hate all boys! Boys are mean, and so are brothers!" I yelled.

I did not know whether he was annoyed by my sobbing or that he genuinely felt bad that he made a child cry. He immediately started consoling me. He patted my back while saying, "There, there don't cry. Its all my fault, I'm sorry. Not all boys are bad but I agree, I hate brothers too" his face was green with envy while he said that last part. "They take up all the attention and they are stupid." He continued. After hearing my sniffle, he took out his handkerchief and started wiping my tears while I sat there obediently. That obedience lasted for only ten seconds. I grabbed the handkerchief from his hand and blew my nose into it. He looked at me in horror. He did not expect I would do that. He probably thought, 'RIP handkerchief'.

"You hate your brother?" I asked him. To which he replied, "Yes, I have a pesky younger brother who acts all innocent and takes up all the attention." He balled his fists due to jealousy.

"I have an older brother, and he keeps showing off making me look bad. That's why I don't like him. Hey, since we both dislike brothers, we should be friends." I did not forget the important goal.

"Ugh, fine. From today onwards, you're my friend." He started pinching my cheeks again. While I smiled at him.

* Beep * Suddenly his watch beeped. He looked at the time and frowned. "It seems that my time is up. I have to leave. Goodbye Amelia." He stood up and took his book.

"When you come next time, I'll have this cleaned." I pointed at the kerchief.

"Until next time." He smiled bitterly. Maybe because he knew that this would be the last time.

I was just a silly girl who waited for a boy whose name she does not know, all because of a stupid promise. I still have his handkerchief. It's kept in a safe little box as a memento. This might be one of the shortest friendships in history. It did not even last an hour.

I wonder how he turned out to be.

I yawned and looked at Mr Wilson, who was very focussed on the program. I looked at the time, it had been one hour and yet the program is still running. Did he start to watch something new without my knowledge?

"Mr Wilson? How much time is left until this finishes?" which actually meant, when are you going to leave?

He gave me one good look before he turned off the TV and left for his room. He seemed....offended? In my defence, I was the one who turned on the TV and he joined me unannounced. He has been watching the same thing for an hour and I did not disturb him at all.

"She does not know how to impress her crush at all, humph!" Mr Wilson mumbled under his breath.

Well, I thought that I could watch some TV, but Mr Wilson interrupted me yet again. Well, at least this time he had a good reason. He got all dressed up in a black suit, he had his hair slicked back- this might be the only hairstyle he knows other than his usual one. How should I describe him, huh? Well, you can imagine a very, very sparkly manga backdrop. He seemed to say, 'Here! Eat photons!' because of the light he emitted.

Oh, so that's why he asked me to wear my black dress. He wanted us to match. You know, this would be really romantic if this was an actual date. I got up and took a bath. And started getting dressed up. Mr Wilson sat on the sofa and looked at his watch from time to time. He also regularly reminded me to "Hurry up!"

Dude, if you told me to get dressed earlier, I would have. You told me to get ready after you got ready so you have to wait. I quickly changed my earrings while I was slipping into my high heels. I did not mind wearing sneakers because the dress was long enough to cover it, but Mr Wilson insisted. And by that, I mean I had no choice.

We walked hand in hand to the restaurant which was very near to the lobby. I wondered why I didn't notice this earlier, I'm usually quick when the subject is food. I could feel a few stares on us. Some of them admired us while some of them sneered at us. I really could not give a damn about those because I do not live to impress. They were just jealous of how good I look, although there is a very good chance that they were jealous of how good Mr Wilson looked, but since I said it's me, it's me. Hehe.

"Ms Brown, I'll give you the honour to call me by my first name today." He said while looking at me.

I squinted at him, 'give you the honour'? Aren't you cocky? I'd be okay if you said, 'You can call me' or 'You may call me', 'give you the honour' is a bit over the top.

"Chris is annoying." I said with a smirk.

He immediately stopped walking and looked at me as if he could not believe what he just heard. "Ms Brown?"

"Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm used to calling you Mr Wilson, so I'm saying sentences with your name so I can get used to it." I smiled at him like I'm actually doing him a favour. (I actually am doing him a favour because this is NOT in the job description at all) He did not seem convinced, but I pulled him as I walked forward.

"Chris is childish. Chris is an exploitative capitalist. Chris is so annoying that toddlers don't want to spend time with him."

"Luna Bro-"

"Shhhh, I'm practising." I glared at him. "Chris can't identify vegetables, it's a wonder that he's alive. Chris has an extremely low alcohol tolerance, and he behaves like a kid when he drinks."

"Ms Brown, maybe you shouldn't call me Chris."

"No no, I take my work very seriously. I have to believable as your fiance so I will call you by your first name. Let's see, hmm. Chris does not know how to judge people so he will go out on a date with any random person, he should be thankful he has me by his side and not a particular redhead who caused a disaster by not telling him that his company was in a crisis." I smiled at him again. I think I covered all of his embarrassing moments since I joined Revolution.

"Alright, alright. You are an excellent secretary, Ms Brown, and I'm lucky to have you here." He said while looked into my eyes to show that he is genuine.

'Aaaaand VICTORY!!!' I thought to myself. I had a huge grin on my face. Since I am a good person, I decided to be on my best behaviour today and not pull any tricks.

The inside look of the restaurant was just marvellous. It looked like I was in a palace, as expected of the Rosa Hotel. It absolutely deserves a five star rating. While I was looking at the place, Mr Wilson focussed on the table we would be sitting at. He carefully navigated my distracted self through the room by pulling me closer.

"Luna, stop getting distracted." He said gently. I was like 'wow'. I never heard him speak that way. His voice was so gentle and caring that I forgot we were pretending. A small blush crept on my face. I cleared my throat and said, "I'm sorry."

The person we were going to meet was already at the table. He was an old man, his hair was not fully white yet, he was fidgeting with his wedding ring. He looked wise and humble, I could never guess that he was the chairman of a conglomerate.

"Good evening, Mr Carlson." Mr Wilson greeted. Today I get to call him Chris and I will completely use this opportunity.

"Please, just call me Charlie." The man smiled.
