"Who are you texting?" Oliver asked with his narrow eyes. Clara had been texting someone as soon as she entered through the door.
" Kyle?" Oliver said with his words covered in irritation. He knew the answer, but still, he wanted to ask if this was true. The looks that Kyle was giving Clara was something that he did not enjoy seeing.
Oliver felt his heart flashing. Thinking about it now was not a pleasant feeling. Even though Clara did not see Kyle, certain insecurity still sprouted in Oliver's heart.
"What? Why would I text him?" Clara's head spun towards Oliver's, meeting his eyes. She tilted her head in puzzlement.
What was going around in Oliver's head was beyond Clara's imagination. Clara had never seen Oliver in such a state. His eyes were focused on her, a small mist covered his eyes. Oliver resembled an abandoned puppy dying for its owner's attention.
"Then?" Clara's answer brought with it a gust of cold breeze, cooling Oliver's burning heart.
Oliver wanted to know. What was so important that Clara took her phone out as soon as she entered the company's door.
Clara's avoided Oliver's intense eyes. She was confused.
Lying was a hard thing for Clara to do. Clara was not sure whether she should tell Oliver the truth or not. Looking at the history between Alexander and Oliver, Clara decided to burn the topic here, so that none of the small flames remains to be distinguished.
"Look at the time," Clara looked at her watch in amusement, "We should be moving fast," Clara ran towards the elevator ignoring Oliver.
Oliver shook his head. He could imagine who Clara was texting. If his intrusions were right, the person he did not want to see would soon be standing in front of him.
On the other hand, Alexander was in a meeting room with his board of directors.
Alexander's head was throbbing. He wanted to leave this silly discussion soon. If it was him from earlier he would not be sitting here listening to others babble about their thoughts regarding the new project.
" I personally think Amelia should be back on the project."
" We have seen her capabilities."
" She is a great asset to the company."
In between the heated discussion, there was a slight vibration on Alexander's phone.
Alexander ignored them all. He leaned towards his phone where a message popped.
' What was Amelia doing at Evelyn's company?'
Alexander's eyes narrowed. He knew Amelia would talk with Evelyn, but so suddenly was not in his expectations.
Clara's text made Alexander uneasy. He knew Clara would be going to Evelyn's company, and Alexander planned to go there to meet her.
Two things were clouding Alexander's mind. First, has Evelyn's behavior changed towards him because of Oliver's influence. Second, how will Clara feel seeing Kyle there.
Thinking about Kyle, Alexander got up from his seat in annoyance.
'I should take Evelyn away from her company.'
"We will discuss the topic later," with these few words Alexander left the room with hurried steps.
"You cannot just leave like this."
Hearing the words, Alexander's steps stopped. He turned around, and his eyes ran through the members one by one.
Cold sweat ran through the spin of all the people present. It was not the first time seeing Alexander like this. The air dropped a few degrees, making a few of the members shiver.
"Just because a tiger let you pass a few times does not mean he would not hunt you once he is hungry."
"S- So- Sorry," Trembling voices filled the room as Alexander walked out of the room.
There was complete silence in the room as no one had seen Alexander being like his old self.
Alexander was the most cruel being in the business world. No one questioned him, or rather no one was confident enough to defeat him. It was not a mere sentence to say, but was a reputation Alexander had built for himself over the years.
Over the years of being in business, Alexander had become more stable. Not as arrogant and ruthless as he was when he took over the business world by storm.
The name that is associated with a person is hard to ignore, but when the traits are not seen for so long, one tends to be ignorant.
All the members swallowed hard as their brains tried to process the turn of events. Alexander's mind warning was still ringing in their head. A tiger will never forget to bite once he has tasted blood.
"Sir, where are you going?" Alexander's secretary asked doubtfully. Alexander's legs were moving at a very fast speed as his face was hard to decode. Was there an emergency?
Alexander did not let any emotions leak from his body. He walked straight with heavy steps. His eyes were as clear as the sky, but if one could see in its dept, they could see a wild possessiveness brewing in them.
"I have some personal matters to attend," Alexander turned around the corner. His hand was in his pocket as he stopped as he faced his secretary, "Take care of the people inside. Today's matter should not repeat itself again."
His secretary nodded but did not say any word. He wanted to ask a few questions but was afraid of feeling the wrath of their CEO.
Alexander hated people prying on his privacy. This was not particularly true only for Alexander, but for the whole Knight family. They were a family of private people. Apart from the things they wanted to share with the world, not a single thing was exposed to others.
When there are such people you love their life to be private, they usually have their own ways to maintain such privacy.
Alexander's secretary knew these things. He rubbed the sweat dripping from his forehead with his hand. Seeing his boss left, he sighed and turned around to handle too scared people still waiting inside the meeting room.
------------
"Please knock on the door before you enter," Evelyn's voice filled the room as her head shook in disappointment.
" You act like this is the first time I entered in this way," Oliver pushed the door and walked inside, shrugging his shoulder.
"I do not remember calling you?"
"Oh, you forgot so soon?" Oliver narrowed his eyes, looking straight into Evelyn's eyes.
"You should eat more almonds and walnuts. I heard it helps to improve your memory."
Evelyn giggled. The smile pasted on Oliver's face irritated her. Soon Evelyn's eyes move away from Oliver's face towards the person following him.
Clara looked like an angel walking behind a devil. She looks so small and delicate that Evelyn wanted to run and save her from the clutches of the evil named Oliver.
"Don't look at her like that." Oliver sensed Evelyn's emotions. Evelyn's fierce eyes had melted like snow after seeing Clara.
"Like what?" Evelyn smirked. Her tone challenged Oliver.
Evelyn and Oliver had been together for so long that they knew each other's in and out. They both could easily detect the slightest change in each other's behavior. This was the type of bond that they have cultivated over the years.
Oliver's eyes met Evelyn's eyes halfway as they both were throwing knives at each other's side. Evelyn was angry with the stunt Oliver pulled on her regarding Alexander, while Oliver was pissed with the realization that Evelyn might be his biggest rival who was capable enough to take Clara away from him.
Evelyn's focus shifted towards Clara again, who was like a deer standing there quietly. Evelyn smiled "Have a seat, Clara. Have you had your lunch?"
Clara nodded her head but before she had an opportunity to talk Oliver's voice cut through, "We have eaten."
Evelyn was irritated with her brother's continuous words.
"Oh, thank you for replying, but I was asking Clara, not you." Evelyn's words were straightforward with no sugar coating. She did not care about Oliver's feelings at all.
"Does it make any difference?" Oliver's lips tilted up.
Hearing the shameless bragging from Oliver, both Clara's and Evelyn's eyes widen. "I think it does," both of them said simultaneously.
Evelyn's tone was filled with anger, but Clara's voice was low, tinted with shyness.
Oliver looked at Clara with a subtle smile. Clara's face was tinted pink. Oliver wanted to see this expression more, but Clara avoided his eyes.
Oliver knew Clara was a shy person still, sometimes he hoped she would take some firm steps towards him. Oliver ignored them completely and sat on the chair with his emotionless face on full display.
"Oliver, you should leave." Evelyn's head was hurting. She had just dealt with Amelia and had no intention to deal with Oliver now.
"Why?" Oliver asked. Irritation on Evelyn's face glowed
"We have to discuss business plans."
"I will not disturb you," Oliver said innocently.
"Oliver," Evelyn said in anger.
"What I also want to invest in," Oliver looked at Clara and said in a small voice, "Can't I?"
