Chapter 44 - Liverpool Academy Team (2)

Man City resumed the game after the liverpool goal with a quick kick off. The Man City players moved with urgency as they desperately tried to get an equaliser.

The Liverpool players were all focused on defending there lead for the time as they sought to get the ball and quickly move on the counter.

Minutes passed as Man City continued to probe the Liverpool side in other to find an equaliser before half time. Tony also tried his best but couldn't find an opportunity to create a clear cut chance or score as they were too many liverpool players defending in there half.

The game continued as man city continued to look for a chance to score a goal, Liverpool was also occasionally getting the ball and trying to also increase there lead.

At the 41st minute Tony got a rare chance to shoot from outside the 18 yard box of Liverpool, but the ball went agonisingly close to the right hand post as the keeper had also dived but failed to get near.

Both teams continued to create half chances as they looked for a chance to score a goal. But finally at the first minute of the 2 minutes of added time, Tony who was presently slightly positioned at the right hand side of the Liverpool box where he then recieved a pass from his teammates.

He moved forward a little before he used his right foot to float a very nice cross into the box for the Man City striker who Rose had already notified him had a little bit of space in the box, as at that moment she had used her system ability to check around for the best position for Tony to send the ball to.

The starting striker of Man City was on the tall side so he could compete with the defenders for aerial balls. Tony crossed the ball towards the penalty spot in the Liverpool box for his striker to battle with two other Liverpool defenders around him.

Tony who had a crossing ability of C+ still managed to send an accurate cross towards the Man City striker who jumped a little higher than the Liverpool defenders around him and nodded the ball into the left side of the net, as the Liverpool keeper struggled but failed to block the ball from entering the net.

Immediately the ball entered into the net the Man City players and fans exploded in excitement as they celebrated the goal. The man city players hugged each other and celebrated together as the liverpool players could only sigh at the equaliser.

After the man city players had celebrated for a while, they went back to there half as the Liverpool players resumed play. But before they could get the ball to the Man City half to create a chance to score, the referee blew the whistle for halftime.

Both teams went into there locker rooms feeling that they could still win the match in the second half if they saw the right opportunity to and had a little bit of luck.

The players rested as Coach Taylor encouraged and motivated the players during the half time break.

"Keep it up and continue to do what you have been doing, the chances would come." He shouted in other to motivate the players.

Some minor tweaks were also done to there tactics, Tony was given more freedom to go to the wings in other to try and send more crosses or passes into the box for his teammates.

When it was finally time the players prepared themselves and got back to the pitch and waited for the referee to signal for the game to resume.

The Man City fans sang some of the first team songs in other to also motivate and inspire the players before the referee finally gave the signal to resume the game.

Man City kicked off as the game began in a similar fashion to the first half as both teams paid more attention to not conceeding more goals first, before they tried to gradually move forward and create chances to score a goal.

Both teams went close to scoring with both sides creating some good chances. Tony had also created about 2 half chances for his teammates but none of them were put into the net.

Liverpool had created the best chance of the half so far as one of there player created a chance to shoot on goal from outside of the box. The keeper dived and managed to deflect the ball to the woodwork which then went out for a corner, much to the relief of the City players and fans.

At the 65th minute Man City finally managed to pull clear as they got possession of the ball and began a counter. The ball was quickly passed forward and finally came to Tony who was close to the half way line.

Tony began to quickly run towards the liverpool box while controlling the ball. He had about 4 liverpool defenders in front of him trying to defend the space and stop the counter. He also had 2 of his man city teammates in front of him trying to find the best attacking position to place themselves.

One of his teammate was the right winger of the team who was positioning himself in the right wing. While the other Man City player In front of Tony was the striker who was constantly repositioning himself in the space close to the left wing and central position.

Tony was moving quickly and saw the right winger in front of him in the right channel had a little bit of space in front of him at the edge of the 18 yard box and he quickly used his right foot to send an accurate pass that arrived close to the Man City winger.

The Man City winger quickly controlled the ball, positioned himself in a shooting posture and raised his left leg as if to shoot. The Liverpool defenders close to him immediately tried to react to the shot as they lunged to cover the shooting angle or to try and steal the ball, while the Man City striker moved a little bit to the centre of the box as he made himself available for the counter or a rebound.

The man city winger with the ball instead sent a short accurate pass to his teammate who he had seen was now positioned close to the penalty spot.

The striker recieved the ball, then quickly adjusted his legs and raised his right boot to send the ball into the left side of the net.

The Liverpool keeper had tried his best in other to block the ball out but couldn't get there. Immediately the ball went into the net the Man City players and fans all jumped up in celebration.
