Synopsis
“There once was a time when people could live a top the earth. They where selfish and not caring, and didn’t protect their gift of light and warm from their special star. But one day the star disappeared, perhaps out of anger at the creatures it had nurtured which where now ruining the planet they hailed from. The world became so cold that now it’s only safe down here....and that is why you must never leave the New Atlantis.” The librarian said to the eager children wanting to hear more, though he closed his book. He was warned by officials not to share anything more about the Great Winter. It would inspire more people to escape, and everyone must be kept inside the city.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Liam woke up, as He looked around his room still half asleep. He got out of bed made his way towards the bathroom, as he washed his face and brushed his teeth. Liam has black curly hair, that drooped over his forehead, Almost covering his eyes. He had dark brown eyes and a round chin. It was a Saturday, so he didn't have to worry about school. He walked into his room and turned off his lights, walking out into his house. It had a two floors, with two bedrooms one being for his parents, and Each room had its own bathroom. The walls smooth limestone design, and the floors where made of metal. It wasn't exactly comfortable, but his dad insisted that this was as comfortable as life gets here in New Atlantis. And to be honest he was right. Liam and his father where descendants of the Cities Founders, and as a result the firstborn child of would always be in charge of protecting New Atlantis and passing laws and more stuff which Liam was not too eager to partake in. It was kind of like being the prince of a bunch of underground tunnels and rooms. Though of course, tunnels in New Atlantis where massive.

Liam saw his father reading one of the ancient books they held onto from before things got bad, and we were no longer allowed to use trees. Liam stopped and waved at his dad before going to make oatmeal. He didn't really like it, but it was apparently the most beneficial food to produce for the society. He put in some blueberries and banana slices before sitting down and having breakfast. He took a spoonful and ate it looking at his dad. "Im going out, I'll be back later today." He said finishing his food and putting it in the sink. His dad smiled gently as he waved goodbye. "Just remember to clean the-" Liam had already left before his dad could give him a list of chores.

Liam walked down the street, making sure to go as untouchable as he could. He didn't like the special treatment he received people, so it was better if they didn't recognize him walking past them. He was walking when he overheard two girls talking amongst each other. "Did you hear?... a criminal broke their third offense today. Apparently their hiding somewhere so they don't get removed. This why I never go downtown..." he stopped and realized his friend was being initiated into the law enforcement role. He thought he should check on her, just in case. He went to a store buying two smoothies for himself and her as he walked downtown to the station. He walked in and talked to the receptionist. " Is Ruby Miller here?" The receptionist smiled warmly. "Why yes, she should be down in the break room, I'll call her up" the person said before dialing the phone. Ruby walked into the room wondering why the receptionist called her up but smiled when she saw Liam. Ruby had long black hair that she had dyed blue up to her neck. She had green emerald eyes and an oval shaped chin. Liam rubbed the back of his neck before posing a question. "Wanna go to the Arcade?"

They walked to Arcade as he handed her the other smoothie he bought, takings small sip out of his. He wanted to ask if she heard about the criminal but knew that she most likely did but there was a good reason she ignored it, one that might upset her to talk about. So instead he got them so quarters and walked over to the arcade game they always played together, street fighter. "So how's your work been?" He asked curiously as he pressed the start button on his side of the game, putting in two quarters. She smiled pressing start as well and the screen moved on to the character select screen. Liam picked Necalli as Ruby picked Ken. "Ready ti lose once again Liam?" She asked smiling as he rolled his eyes. "We'll see about that" they both played as Liam was having his ass handed to him. He would be lying if he said video games where his strong suit. "Hey Ruby, do you ever think about leaving?" He said hesitantly. He knew this would sound stupid, because why would anyone want ant to leave this place. It was shoved in his face so much that it started to bother him how no one question what might be happening beyond the walls of rock they where near.

Ruby had a slight smile on her face, though it was a concerned one. "Do you mean like leaving the City? As far as I know people can leave the city for one of two reasons. Sometimes there's a shortage of air supply, so they send people out in special protective suits to collect this stuff called frozen air. If it isn't because of that it's because someone broke their third offense. They remove them from the city and throw them out into the surface. No one knows what happens to them there..." she seemed a little upset as she mentioned that last part. "Promise me you won't try to leave...you'll only get hurt." She said looking at him. Liam felt like this was something personal to her, and felt bad for bringing up. "Yeah, i never would of left anyways...I just, got curious I guess" he said looking to the side. She smiled gently patting his shoulder. "Hey, we all wonder about things from time to time." He said before looking at her. "You wanna grab some lunch?" He asked curiously. "Already giving up on winning?" Ruby teased before getting up, slinging her bag over her shoulder. Liam raised an eyebrow with an annoyed but happy expression on his face. "Your gonna regret that when I win"

They made their way to restuarant nearby buying some takeout before heading out. Liam stopped when he noticed a man freakishly looking from side to side. He turned to Liam and squinted a bit before getting up and walking over to him. "Your the Leaders son...." he then grabbed him holding him in a chokehold, making it hard for Liam to breathe. "Sorry kid...but I need to get out of here alive" he said as Ruby eyes filled with fury. She was about to pull out the taser gun she was given when he smirked holding Liam like a shield. "Be careful you don't shoot your friend here." She stepped back cautiously, not wanting to hurt Liam. "Step back or I'll snap his neck." Just then two officers came from behind, tasing him as he fell onto the ground paralyzed. The deputy came picking the man up and using metal cuffs to seal his arms together. She turned to Ruby and Liam "you kids ok?" Liam was breathing heavily as he got up, shaking lightly. This didn't feel right. It felt different from everything that had seemed so taboo to him. Why would anyone want to leave New Atlantis? His suspicious where only building up.
