Liam looked distraught as he looked at the man who's eyes where strained and red. He was dirty, overgrown with hair that must been unkept for months, and had sharp nails. His face looked angry as he grit his teeth practically foaming from his mouth from anger. Anyone who saw him would assume he was a criminal with no where left to go in his life. Perhaps no one would believe him if he said he was a scientist, who wanted to desperately prove he wasn't crazy. But in the process he had made himself an enemy of the city council. Liam looks at the man, worried that he wasn't heing told everything. "W-why, are you trying to escape?..." as the man grew a smile on his face, as if he was asked the question of his life, and that the answer would be detrimental to anyone, but as soon as it came his hope shattered at the words of the stern deputy. "I suggest you don't converse with someone who is being removed...as for you Doctor, We won't hesitate to terminate you right now if you open your mouth again."
It was rumored that the deputy of law enforcement had killed a third offender before when he tried to steal weapons. They also said she had killed and escapist before they could reach the access point. He thought that part was especially heartless, since you wouldn't be able to see if you where free from the access point since it was a path that went up for miles. He didn't think someone would be willing to do that to a person. But as he saw the deputy's face rumors seemed to be a lot more real then they first appeared. Ruby seemed to be stuck between what to do, and and what to think. But as her older mentor, the deputy had power over Ruby. "You and your friend should get out of here, Ruby. I'll see you next Saturday. I'm glad at the way you handled this situation" Ruby looked down, clenching her fists a little. "Yeah, We'll go" she said as she walked away and Liam followed. Liam wanted to ask Ruby a lot questions about what was going on, but he knew well not to ask in front of the deputy.
When they where far enough Liam looked at Ruby with an upset expression. "I'm beginning to not trust the deputy...why is she trying to silence people? We should be looking into this..." He said contemplating what he could do. It wasn't like he had a list of Scientists to call up, but maybe someone in his class was given that role, and they could tell him more if he got to know them. Ruby seemed to be looking to side as something was on her mind. "Liam....lets just forget about this. We can keep on going to stores and buying smoothies and playing games. But I don't want to lose you because you found something that made you try to escape. There's a reason they don't tell people about what the surface was like before. It's because whatever it was is not their anymore....even if you could get out there what would you do? Where would you go?" She said looking at him with fear. "I don't like talking about this....but I don't want to lose you..." he could see she was hurt in her eyes, and he had the impression this wasn't the first time she had told someone this. Liam would look over to her. "I'm sorry if I made you worry...I promise I'll stop asking questions. Besides, I would never leave, because then I wouldn't get to see you smile anymore" Liam said playfully. Ruby's face flushed a little as she punched his shoulder playfully. "Oh shut up" she said as Liam smiled a little before stopped walking. "I have to head home soon, I'll talk to you Tommorow." He said as he crossed the street walking to his home.
Ruby waved goodbye to him before walking to her home. Unlike Liam, she lived in a much poorer side of the city, where people who didn't have high roles where placed. She unlocked her door taking off her sweater as she walked in to admire the home she had kept clean. There was an old bookshelf that her parents used to use, filled with books that had a lot of history to them. There was a blue couch that was slightly torn on one of the arm rests, but otherwise was in a good condition. The was a fan hanging on the roof that looked like it would fall any second. There was three doors, two leading to bedrooms, and one leading into the bathroom. She yawned gently changing into a more causal shirt and sweatpants. She sat on her bunk bed as she pulled over a picture of her and her sister that was sitting on the drawer nearby. She closed her eyes, like she was trying to go back, back to a time when her sister was still living with her, and she could give her advice. It was 6 years ago, when she was 10. She was starting to remember it...
"Want me to pack your lunch?" A tall black haired girl with a ponytail, freckles and brown eyes said as she packed a veggie burger into her little sisters lunchbox. She had a red plaid button down shirt with a white baseball cap and navy jeans. She seemed so strong and yet peaceful at the same time, like she had nothing to fear in the world. Ruby look timidly at the door looking back at her sister. "I don't want to go to school....these kids have been making fun of me because We live in this house..." Her sister thought for a bit, before getting down on Ruby's level hugging her gently. "I want you to remember this whenever you feel like things are unfair for us. When your in the situation we're in, things don't come to us like they do for others, but we have each other to get through that. We got each other's backs, and that's what sets us apart from the rest of them." She said to A younger Ruby. Ruby opened her eyes, her heart felt sore as she got up on her bed and looked at the photo she was holding onto. "Arielle...Im sorry...i should of listened to you..." Ruby's eyes where tearing but she was interrupted when she heard some knocking at her door. She got up as she grabbed a bat, preparing in case someone tried to rob her. She slowly made her way to the door, opening it lightly to see a familiar figure. "Deputy?" she said opening the door. The woman walked in, having warm smile that seemed to give sense of security and ease. It was something she was good at pulling off. The woman made herself at home, sitting down on the couch with mild disgust which she hid. "Sorry to intrude, but I would like to ask you to do an important task for me"
