Since getting the part as a News Editor he's been receiving e-mails from students passing their own news articles to be passed. He and Lynn has their own news to edit, wherein Nate's editing the short articles he's received from other journalism organizations in other Valnix campuses from Rapille's states. It's not really that difficult, but he had to go return their articles more than a few times because of language differences.
Despite being told that he'd meet the other members of the main team, he hasn't really met them all. He's only asked Lynn about how the others are like, and all she's answered is that he should see it for himself.
"Damn, you're still working on that article?"
"You've said that thrice, now, Brennan." Nate mumbles, leaning back against his chair to stretch his back. It's a weekend, and he's been working on the articles ever since he woke up; he didn't have any classes, and he didn't have any extra-curricular activity from his sector so he had spare time for his org. He turns to look at his roommate, trying not to avoid his eyes.
Of all the people he had to share a room with, it had to be a Hacrene. While he couldn't care less, it made him fear that the place he's supposed to be comfortable in isn't so safe due to his roommate's thoughts about him.
While they have talked about the division of their people at length due to a drunken moment after a freshman party, he still doesn't feel easy around the guy.
"Going anywhere?" Nate managed to asked, turning back to his laptop as he sees he's not halfway through editing what seems like his fourth article of the day.
"Just to Ditech. Heard that there's a game session, I wouldn't want to miss it." Brennan answers, heading towards the door. "Take care, Nate. See you later."
"Take care," Nate mumbles in return, hand hovering over the touch pad of his laptop. He struggles with deciding whether to finish the article or to grab a snack at the mess hall to at least recover some energy. Last time he ate was after he woke up at ten in the morning, and now it's around five in the afternoon.
A ping sounds from his laptop, causing him to close the tab of his word document to check his e-mails. Of course he'd know the sound of it, it's been the only constant sound he's been hearing over and over again for the past five hours.
His eyebrows raise in surprise, seeing that it's Clary who sent him an e-mail. Opening it up, he sees that she's inviting him to the organization building. Well, he's hungry anyway; he might as well take a snack from the mess hall along the way. As soon as he steps out of the dormitory he spots Lynn along the pathway.
"Lynn!" He calls out, jogging towards the girl. She turns, facing him with raised eyebrows. He smiles, walking beside her as he manages to catch up to where she was, "Did Clary send you an email too?"
"She sent you one?" She says, eyes widening in the slightest. He found it odd, as Lynn had always had such emotionless eyes. He's always wondered how she and Kol even got together, as their personalities contradict one another's. Well, as they say, opposites attract or something.
"Was.. she not supposed to send me an e-mail?" He questions, smiling politely. He places his hands in his jacket's pockets, feeling sort of uneasy. If he'll muse over Lynn's reaction, he guesses that it's something private about the organization. But.. he received a e-mail saying that he should go, that it's urgent and such. He glances over at Lynn, who has her phone out. Not wanting to peep, he looks at another direction and says, "I'll just head over to the mess hall for a snack, want to come with?"
Lynn nearly pauses in her steps, but she hides her phone once being asked.
"It's almost six, President would not tolerate tardiness." She says, glancing off at the road towards the EONS building. She turns back to him, asking, "Would you risk it?"
His response was rather quick, telling her with a sigh, "I'd rather not. Let's go then."
He knows Clary, somehow, as he remembers how she went off on her group mates due to a group project in first year because they didn't do the assigned task. Somehow she still remained a cheerful and easy-going persona, but most of the students that took that class had been wary of her due to that incident.
Lynn leads the way to the building, heading inside. There's no one in the main room, though he does see someone leaning by one of the windows with a phone in hand.
"Good afternoon, Code." Lynn greets, waving at the male. The guy looks up, his dark eyes letting them know he was Pykrest. She stops, turning back to the guy, "Code, is President inside already?"
"Yeah, I just went outside. I have a problem with.. you know." He mumbles, frantically typing away at his phone. Nate doesn't pry, but by the way the guy, "Code", is reacting to his current situation he could deduce that the guy is going through some relationship problem.
"Good luck. Try to diffuse it as soon as you can." Lynn waves passively at him, heading towards the door to the stairs. Nate follows after, eyebrows raising in surprise as he realises that he's about to be invited to the second floor. He's asked her about it a few times, though like her answers about the other leaders of the org it was mostly vague. He watches as she opens the door, to which the first sight he sees are stairs.
He releases a breath he didn't realise he was holding, though he doesn't understand why he feels so intimidated by the situation. He follows after Lynn, staring down as he wonders whatever leads up the stairs. He notices that there are stairs leading below the ground, making him think that the building is shadier than he thought. There's a secret basement and a restricted second floor, he wonders why a journalism club would be this secretive.
Upon getting onto the second level, he didn't realise that the entire second floor would be one room. His eyes widen upon seeing the corner farthest from the room littered with tables and random machinery, in the middle of the room as a long counter with chairs surrounding it, a large whiteboard is right by the counter, and on another corner is what he guesses is a computer station.
"Lynn, he's your co-editor?"
Nate turns to who spoke, only to swallow back harshly as he's faced with a guy much taller than him. Aside from the intimidating height, the guy's face looks too kind in contrast to his towering height.
"Hi," Nate greets, flashing an awkward smile. "I'm actually having second thoughts if I was supposed to receive an e-mail from Clary.."
"Oh no, that was intended. You're part of the main team after all, it's best that you get to meet all of the members." Clary calls out from another part of the room. When he had turned to look, he found her standing on a step ladder while writing on the whiteboard. She stops, turning to look at Nate with a smile, "You'll be getting an official orientation today."
"So that's what it was?" Lynn calls out, heading towards the whiteboard. "I thought it was a mistake."
"He's part of the team, Lynn, of course he'd need an orientation, as well as an official introduction to them." Clary answers, turning back to whatever she was writing. "Code is dealing with some issues, Maki and Shura is running late due to Kinesia activities, and Mina is fixing a broken printer in the basement. The meeting will start once everyone has arrived."
"Take a seat for the mean time, Nate." Lynn says, assisting Clary with whatever they're writing on the board.
Taking her advice, he heads towards the chairs in the middle of the rooms and sits down. Someone takes a seat beside him, and it's the tall guy from earlier.
"I'm Pol, by the way. It's nice to meet you." He smiles kindly, leaning against his chair. "What's your main sector? I'm from Agrante, major in Botany."
"I'm Nate, though you already heard that from Lynn and Clary." He introduces, tilting his head back to look at the person by the computer station. The amount of screens has him perplexed, though he doesn't mind it any longer as he turns back to Pol, saying, "Main sector's Akadem, major in History."
"History, huh?" Pol suddenly smiles, as if growing interested. He scoots his chair nearer to Nate, asking, "What do you enjoy about history?"
He feels the same vibes he felt when he had that interview with Clary, they were more or less interested in what he had to say about learning history.
"Mostly just how the states came to be, what's the history of each state," Nate tilts his head, pursing his lips as he muses on a thought. "Also to learn more about the Suffocation, as well as the Division years ago. I also find wars interesting, where the battles of each state amuses me. Their tactics are just somewhat genius even before technological advancement."
He realises that the atmosphere has grown quiet, feeling very conscious about his presence in the room. In the silence, he hears a door slam, and then later heavy breathing as two figures runs up the stairs.
"Sorry we're l'te!" A light haired guy exclaims, breathing heavily as he leans against the stairs' railings. "They wouldn't quit 'til the game was w'n fair and square so Maki and I h'd to give it our all so the g'me would end."
"Sorry we're late." The other guy repeats, raising a hand as he catches his breath.
"That's alright, you two, we have all night anyway. It's the weekend," Clary says, stepping down from the step ladder. She claps her hands, calling out, "Let's start the meeting, shall we?"
