The doors slowly swung open as two men enter the office. The doctor was sitting on his chair and reading a file when he realizes it was Hilbert, his favorite subject. His masterpiece, the only good result that came out of the supersoldier program.
"Doctor, I was called for?" Hilbert asks.
"Yes, the prodigal son returns." Doctor Fenrich replies while plastering a grin on his cheeks.
"You know what to do, Hilbert. Major, please strap him in the seat." Doctor Fenrich stated as he grabbed a syringe and a vial filled with some sort of serum.
Jacques did what he was asked and Hilbert sat down before he was strapped in place by Jacques. His hands began to tremble and Jacques noticed this and became slightly worried. Hilbert just smiled faintly to Jacques as if he was trying to tell him that everything will be fine. Jacques wanted to believe it but he saw what such a sadistic and mad man have done to the other soldiers within the facility. He was hesitant but he finished locking the strap on Hilbert's forehead and took a step back. The doctor flicked the syringe before approaching Hilbert and injecting the large needle into his arm.
"You might want to cover your ears, major." The doctor states before laughing maniacally.
Jacques was confused but as the serum kicked in it was apparent that despite Hilbert looking normal, his body was already tainted with the experiments the mad man before him performed. Hilbert's hands gripped the arm rests, he gritted his teeth and he began to breathe heavily as veins popped out of his arm and neck. Jacques, now startled with what he's witnessing, stood frozen after seeing that even if the operations performed on you are successful you will still be tormented. Your body turned to something a normal person would consider horrific, labeled as a monster despite the monster being the person who turned you into one using inhumane methods.
Doctor Fenrich only took pleasure in seeing Hilbert thrash his body and let out screams of pain and agony. Haunting screams that will scare even the strongest will of men. This was disturbing for Jacques but he had to accept the fact that this is the result of war, the same war that he continues to fight in.
"5...4...3...2...1! H-18347, we are fielding the ball." The doctor exclaims.
Hilbert stopped moving and his breathing slowed down. Something has changed, the look in his eyes were now emptt and his face now emotionless. Jacques knew that this was not Hilbert anymore, his aura changed and despite him looking like he was turned into a clean slate, he also gave off a very menacing and intimidating presence.
"H-18347, codename Sparrow...reporting for duty." Hilbert says in a monotonic and deep tone.
"You have a new assignment, this won't be a simple infiltration and espionage mission like last time. You'll be leading a small detachment under Major Enfield, an elite death squad of sorts." Doctor Fenrich informed him while removing his restraints.
Hilbert moved his piercing gaze to Jacques and gave a nod. He stood up and regained his composure, fixing his tie and brushing his hair back. His body language changed and he was no longer slouched.
"If this new assignment of yours becomes a success, the ministry of science will finally recognize my work!" Doctor Fenrich blurted out.
"He'll be leading a small detachment under my unit, will he be taking orders from me or will he do as what he thinks is fit?" Jacques inquires the doctor.
"He will take orders from superiors but if he feels the need to make an independent decision, then he won't hesitate to do so." Doctor Fenrich replied.
"Don't worry major, I have faith in your tacticts. You're not to be taken lightly in combat according to your battle reports." Hilbert stated.
That was true, Major Jacques Enfield was a well decorated soldier in the past. It was promotion after promotion, victory after victory until Operation Thunderbolt. He was given time to mourn his brother's death while his unit was on hold. His men were on standby for several months and they were thrilled to know that Jacques accepted a new assignment. They hyped themselves up for the day of the mission, even going as far as preparing their equipment several weeks before Jacques picked up Hilbert.
"Are you bringing your own men or do I have to provide them from my division?" Jacques asked him.
"I trust that your men are great if not the best you have to offer, I'll manage with anything you'll provide." Hilbert replied.
"You best be going, I'm giving you this case of the serum. Remember to take the right dose every few days and don't let this get to the hands of the enemy." The doctor says as he handed the small case to Hilbert.
Hilbert nodded and walked towards the door, Jacques followed behind him and they both navigated their way back out of the facility. Their driver was waiting in the car and started the engine as soon as he saw them. Once they got in the back, the driver no longer asked where to go and began driving. They were now headed towards the pier where the 116th was already beginning to load their vehicles and equipment onto the ship.
"Hilbert, exactly what kind of surgeries did they perform to you?" Jacques asks.
"Most are classified but what I can tell you is how my body reacts to the serum. Imagine an adrenaline shot but it also activates the other surgeries performed on me." Hilbert coldly replies.
"I see, it's such a complicated and advance operation on your body. Everything is affected despite you looking like an ordinary person. Jacques said before nodding.
Hilbert was designed mainly for infiltration, this explains why his augmentations we're hidden within his body. Most being upgrades to his organs and the altering of his brain chemistry.
