Chapter 18 - Ballet of Death 1

"So you are the person they sent," she held chin. "I am Ursula Louis, you'll be working for me."

He nods at her with a palm on his heart. She raises her brows slightly. Head leaning on the side. The bodyguard standing beside Miss Ursula kept a stoic face as he sizes Jakob out. Though he was younger than Jakob. He could tell that he had enough experience in his belt.

"Flatline, was it?"

Jakob nodded. The bodyguard gave a nod and introduced himself. "I am Gaul, and I am part of the Miss's security." He reaches out his hand to Jakob. Jakob felt strength rush from Gaul, but he barely felt it with the nanoweaved enchanting his strength. Gaul raised a brow behind that glasses, separating his hand. Touching the hilt of his vibrant blade as he takes a step to the side.

"Line," Miss Ursula said. "Would it be fine if I call you that?"

"Yes, Ma'am," Jakob said, his tone bland.

"Then you know the details, if not then you go home. Now, my next show is coming up next. There is a threat to my life for working under this government. Since Haven delivered you here, then I will assume that you know of the Deckers?"

"The Mechanical Cult?"

"Do you?"

Jakob nodded. He eyes the vibrant blade carried by Gaul. "Then we expect the Machina's attacking? What about full-metals? Is that why Gaul is carrying that vibrant blade?"

Gaul said. "Yes, we might expect some of them in the crowd. I shall be the Miss's armorbreaker. I believe you equipped for crowd control?"

Jakob nodded again. The conversation was sparse. The stiffness in the air was clear. Jakob didn't bother clearing the mood. He stood like a statue in the middle. Eyeing Miss Ursula like a watchful guardian. Before Gaul could clear the air, she smiled, tilted her head to the right, took a stand and offered her hand.

"Good, you can work for me."

Gaul gave a sigh as he taps his head. Smiling at her bodyguard, she started walking to the door. Opening the door for her, Gaul followed her on the right while Jakob placed himself on her left side. Gaul opens an umbrella as they walk under the Aured sky. Waiting for the limousine to arrive, Jakob eyed the streets of Aured. Head scanning the corner of the street. His thermal glasses checking every heat signature detected. The crowded skyways of Aure didn't lack any flyers and vehicles. As for the street they were in, it was the calmest part of Aured.

Miss Ursula did not lack security details, but it came as strange to Jakob how hidden they are. Even he was having a hard time spotting them. If it was not for his senses reaching its prime, he would not spot them under this Aured Rain. Hearing an engine nearing, Jakob loosened his shoulders, turned to that sound and shifted his weight. Seeing that it was a limousine, Jakob moved close to the limousine door while eyeing the surroundings. Leading Miss Ursula inside the vehicle, Gaul followed first before Jakob went in.

Immediately going, they passed through the maze-like streets. Though the limousine flew as it entered the skyway. Jakob didn't change his expression as he kept a relaxed but stiffed sense of awareness. Behind the limousine were flyers that could swoop in.

"You're used to flying?" Gaul asked, tightening his hold on his vibrant blade. His expression did not stir. On the farther side of the limousine was the Miss drinking a glass of wine.

"I am," Jakob said. "I have my flyer, not this fancy, but it can do a good job."

Gaul nodded his head. They couldn't keep a conversation with the Miss around. Though the Aured City made the sky foggy. The brilliant lights of the City could hold back the endless shadow cast around the City. Oh, how he loved this city, his second home, more than Gharasu.

And he failed to save it with the others. Wiping that thought of his head, he turned his attention to the neon lights that clashes against another approaching. The limousine descended on the side of the road. The doors unlocked. Jakob came out first, and Gaul followed, forming a two-man barrier against the raging crowd.

"Mistress, we love you!"

"PLEASE LOOK AT US"

"GOODNESS SHE'S HERE! SHE'S REALLY HERE!"

Mistress Ursula came out of the limousine, leg-first, as she then saunters out under the sky. The secondary bodyguards lined up as Gaul opened the umbrella. Walking with her wide hips swinging left and right, she raised her hand and swept the crowd with her angelic smile. Keeping two meters away from the Miss. Jakob scanned the surrounding area while keeping an eye for any insignias that could tell apart the Decker's Cult.

The stadium she entered was big enough to hold ten thousand people at once. From the cheering in the background, Jakob understood why there was a need for a bodyguard that took care of an etherian. Guarding her door was a woman in a business dress, tied black hair in a ponytail, and a tablet in her left hand.

"You are late."

"Sorry Angela," she clasps her hand in front of the woman. "Line here kept us waiting."

"Is that so?" Angela casts her eyes on Jakob. Approaching Jakob with a puffed chest, she placed a finger on his chest. "You know that you cost us thousands in credits!"

Jakob only nodded. Angela's veins popped as she placed a knuckle on her waist. Turning her head away from Jakob, she clap her hand and gestured for Miss Ursula to change. Placing himself on the side of the doorway, Jakob stood with a hand placed on top of his backhand.

After a few minutes, the door opened, and Miss Ursula Louis, the future blazing star of Aured City, walked out of the dressing room in a glittering dress that catches those even have hardened hearts. Gaul shivered at her beauty, her red lips, her voluptuous body and leg for days. Jakob's shoulders squared. The sight of this star at her younger days only made him thought of the coming days. Clenching his hands, Jakob Recker followed the star to her stage. It seems he could only follow what fate has stored for her.
