Chapter 12 - Nothing I can't handle

"Good morning, everyone! The athletes are on the other bus with the Sports Committee president. We are off to Faith Orphanage to help the children learn the beauty of sports and cope with their situation. Thank you for helping us in this project, and let's do our best."

It's Robert's usual speeches. Everybody clapped as the bus set off to its destination. The orphanage is an hour away from the university campus, given that there will be no heavy traffic. It's located near the secluded part of the city.

Five minutes in the ride and Robert could feel how silent I am. He gave me a little nudge on my arm.

"You're quiet. That's so not you."

"Huh? What do you mean?" I rolled my eyes and laughed when he said that. But honestly, I was caught up in a thought that I already forgot when he talked.

"Really, Drea? Knowing you, you should have been flying from one seat to another." He jokingly commented as he took out his phone because it has been ringing non-stop.

I just didn't want to talk as of the moment. Despite how talkative I can be, I sometimes have that moment where I just want to sit down and stay quiet. Social battery out!

Not even a minute in that silence, my friends who were sitting at the back are already tempting me.

"Aaaannndddreeeeaaa!" I don't know if she's shouting or whispering. Maybe in between? Pauline is the treasurer of our committee, and she's one of my closest in the organization. She's studying Accounting, and we often would meet in some classes.

I mouthed my reply. "What?"

"Leave Robert and sit beside us." I gave a slight laugh. She looks like the devil inviting you to sin as she waves her hand on the empty sit in between her and Kian.

I went to transfer seats at the back with Kian and Pauline.

Just as I was able to put my butt cheeks on the sit, Kain went on with the latest gossip.

"Giiiiirrrrl!!!" he whispered.

"What?" Pauline and I were trying to suppress our giggles.

"Have you noticed how crowded we are with good looking people? Thank God, I decided to join the student council."

Well, if it's isn't their favorite past time activity. Boy hunting. Well, I mean, we all are single, and it's the joys of participating in events organized by the student council. You get to see and interact with different types of people.

"Who's your pick?" as I opened my bag to grab some chips I brought from home.

"Girl? Have you seen the captain of the Basketball club? Daniel? Girl! Definition of tall, dark, and handsome." I wonder how many boys have Pauline surveyed earlier this morning.

"I know, right? And have you seen Luis from the volleyball team? Chinito, tall and intelligent." Kian, as he took some chips. If you don't know what's chinito, it's a word that we call someone with Chinese descent.

"Speaking of volleyball, Andrea here has some explaining to do." The chips were halfway to my mouth when Pauline draw the attention on me.

"What do you mean?" I innocently asked as I ate the chips.

"You seem very close to Dominic." Added Pauline as she tried to bob her head to Nic's direction.

I just chuckled.

"Well, we just happen to be friends. That's all." I defended.

"If you don't have any plans with Dominic, I'm taking dibs." Kian declared.

I can't blame them because Dominic is indeed a good-looking guy. He gives a young Leonardo DiCaprio vibe with his long hair. Even from this distance, you can see how pointed his nose is. He has a dreamy smile and a deep voice to match it. Don't even get me started with his height. Almost perfect if you ask me.

The bus ride ended with our laughter filling the whole vehicle. There were a couple of times that Robert would give us a warning look. Can't blame him though, we were loud.

When we got into the location, the orphanage director welcomed us. We had a short meeting to brief and prepare us before entering the program area.

The children were already gathered in the playground. You could see in their faces that they were elated with just the thought of having visitors to play with. Some of them are still very young, and some are already in their teens.

The President of the Student Council gave some opening speech before we started the program.

Our team organized a short party program to entertain the children before we start teaching them about the sport. While one of the members was singing a song, we distributed some paper and pen for the children to write their names.

While the children were enjoying the burgers we brought, I was busy helping the orphanage volunteers in taking care of the babies. Do you ever just have that one moment where you would pretend you're already a mom while holding a baby? I get those sometimes.

"You look the part." I was startled from the voice, but I know who owns it. Dominic was standing behind me and is holding a piece of burger in his hand.

"I brought you some snacks." As he held out the food.

I took it from him and placed the burger on the table next to me. "Because I look haggard?"

"No. You just look like a mom right now. Not because you look haggard, but I can see the love in your eyes."

"Getting poetic, huh?" I shook my head while trying to stop myself from laughing. He followed me as I hand over the baby to the volunteer.

"Not really. If I get married, I'd want my wife to look at my kids the way you look at that baby."

My brows frowned at his statement. What is he talking about?

He might have read through my expression and continued. "I might sound weird to you right now."

He scratched the back of his head as he chuckled to himself, getting shy as his cheeks turned red. I was shocked with the sight, and before he can even see me blush, I turned my heels and walk towards where the program is.

"Nothing that I can't handle."
