When Sonny notices them heading straight for a brick wall he slams on the breaks. But this only lessens the impact as the car smashes into it totally busting up the front. Heavy smoke starts to come up from the hood and the air bags pop out. The two teens squeeze from underneath it falling to the ground. "What kind of driving was that? Now look at what you did."
"Like you could've drove any better. You would have crashed this the minute we took off."
"No I wouldn't of..." The girl sentence trailing off with the old guy storming towards them. As for the young male driver now takes this opportunity to flee the scene. The red car speeding off the opposite direction. Multiple curses fall out his mouth upon seeing the wreckage. They're in for it now.
"I finally caught you! Look at what you insolent kids did to my baby! See how the world's become. You can't leave your car unattended for two seconds, or kids will come by and drive off with the darn thing! You two best be ready because I'm calling the authorities, I'm calling your parents, I-"
"Please! We know detectives that can come and meet you right now."
"Hmf, you better not be lying to me. Now go on, call'em!" he orders, Sonny pulling out his cellphone. The boy awkwardly explains the situation to Ron, and how they need them to come down there immediately. The two take a seat on the pavement with the man's hard glare not wavering a bit. After a painfully uncomfortable wait a familiar limo pulls up.
The red head is the first one to step out the vehicle, jaw dropping at the sight. "What the heck happened?!"
"I'll tell you what happened. These brats stole my car and crashed it! My son bought me this only a year ago, and now they've completely messed it up. I don't care if monsters are chasing yah, you don't drive off with something that's not yours."
Ron and Jerry's face harden at the word monsters. The shorter male sighs running his fingers through his dark violet hair before pulling out a check book. "What you witnessed is confidential and we'd appreciate it if this stays between us, as to prevent panic. I'm sorry about your convertible. Hopefully this is enough to put this incident behind you, and not take any legal actions."
"What is this hush money? Do you really think you can bribe me by-wowsers! This is much more than my son paid for this car, double, triple!"
"I presume everything is okay now correct?"
"Of course, they're only kids. I'm just glad nobody's hurt." Not bothering to hide the large grin on his face.
Yeah, sure, he didn't have that attitude a minute ago. How big of a check did Ron write him?
Telling him who and where to write it out to he goes skipping away down the street. Once the elder is gone both detectives unplesant looks turn directly to Sonny. "Taking off with a man's car. What were you thinking?!" Jerry snaps.
"I had to do this to protect her. There was too many monster for us to fight!"
But Ron simply shakes his head pushing up his glasses. "Other alternatives could of been done but this was reckless. I'm disappointed in you, Sonny."
"This might of didn't end perfect but-"
"If you're being this reckless now how will you act in the ruins? This is our last strike with her being the third Felixa. Not to mention she could have been injured or killed by the stunt you just pulled! Do you really want her to end up like Ryder? You should've found somewhere to hide and called us. What you did wasn't smart or safe!" Jerry's words spit out harshly having Sonny fall silent. Out of the short time she's known him he came off as the laid back sort, so it's unusual to hear him this angry.
With the lecture over the boy's gaze is glued to the ground only mumbling an apology. It isn't really fair Sonny's the only one being chewed out. It's true he's suppose to protect her, but she went along with this too. After a minute Jerry expression softens up giving him a pat on the shoulder. "Sorry, I know you volunteered to be a guardian of your own free will. Just try to be more careful here on out."
"Well it's close to dorm curfew time, so we should drop you off at the dorms since we're here. You aren't hurt anywhere are you, Brooklynn?" Ron questions, and she shakes her head as they get into the car. Jerry stays behind to deal with the accident while the other drives them back to school.
...
After dropping Sonny and Brooklynn off at the main gate the two head for the dorms. She wants to say something to break this silence but is unsure where exactly to start. Luckily for her Sonny is the one to speak up. "I suppose I should be apologising to you too. You could've got hurt today because of me. I'm suppose to protect you, not put you in greater danger."
"Sonny..."
"You're probably really wondering what happened to Ryder now, right?"
"Yeah, you never got the chance to answer earlier," she replies, stopping by the doors. Sonny gazes up at the night sky like he's recalling a distant memory.
"As I'm sure you know there was two Felixa prior you receiving the power of light. The first young woman Amethyst had died from natural causes while she was still in training. Then the magic transferred over to Ryder and that's around the time I started working as a guardian. He was only two years older than me and we got along great. Becoming fast friends we started searching for the Erebus chest after he mastered his powers."
"So you already had started exploring some of the ruins?"
"Yeah, but we only made it to the second one when...a monster there took his life right in front of me. It's...all because I couldn't protect him. I didn't want the same thing to happen to you too. That's why I wanted to make sure you'd be safe at all cost," he explains. The last part coming out as a soft whisper.
Is this why he was so overprotective on her first day? Brooklynn only looked at the behavior as being a nuisance and pushed him away. Then got kidnapped the same night and he had to come and save her. She's a bit upset with herself now on how she acted then.
"But of course I pulled this and you could've been..."
Brooklynn steps in front of the ginger snapping him out of his worrisome thoughts. "But I'm not hurt, I am perfectly fine! So you have no reason to keep beating yourself up over this." Sonny looks like he feels so guilty she had to say something. Besides she really is still standing here which is all that matters in the end.
He gives her a small smile for the first time since they got back. "I'll still try to be more careful in the future. And I'm not one hundred percent sure but I think they only gave us chase to find out about your power."
"My power? What makes you think that?"
"They stopped pursuing us once you used your telekinesis."
"Oh..." Now that she thinks about it he does have a point. Brooklynn can't believe she didn't notice that before, but there was a lot going on at the time.
"Not your fault though since I'm the one who told you to use it. Thought it could help wrap up the battle quickly. It wasn't just too many monsters to handle, but it's not good for us to be fighting in public areas like that regardless. Why I tried with the car for us to make a fast escape. Anyway,
let's just be sure to stay on guard." The two heading inside down the hall, and after saying their goodnight Sonny disappears in his room. She goes to do the same until a unrecognizable voice stops her.
"If it isn't the new girl. You're getting back awfully late." The culprit being a preppy girl with long curly blonde hair and blue eyes. Another girl is standing behind her with long black hair pulled back in a ponytail. With all the makeup on their faces they could take to be high schoolers.
"Oh, uh I lost track of time."
"What are you doing at Langfield anyway? You obviously don't have the money to go attend this school." The other one spats.
"Yeah you should run along back to the creek where you came from. You don't belong here."
That first statement may be true but not like it's any of their business. Brooklynn tries to think of a quick refutal when someone else interrupts instead.
"Is there a problem Nicole, Jeni?"
"Josef!" Both girls freeze at the sound of his voice coming up from behind them. Shacking their heads profusely as each clings to his sides.
"N-No Josef, not at all!" The black haired female insists, as her friend nods in agreement.
"We were only curious why she isn't taking her schooling more seriously. She nearly showed up late again after having detention the other day."
"Really now? I think whatever reasons she has being late is her business. Leave her be and go back to your own rooms." The two apologising to him then scurrying off, leaving them standing alone in the empty hallway. "I'm sorry about them. Are you okay?"
"Y-Yes."
"Well let me know if they bother you again, alright? You better get to bed, it's late. See you in class tomorrow," he replies with a charming smile before heading on his way.
"Yeah, bye!" A twig of happiness in her chest. Josef speaking up for her completely makes the night. Changing she heads straight to bed drained from the exhausting day.

The next morning on their way to the school building Sonny frowns looking at his phone. Brooklynn peeps over glancing at the screen of the video he's watching. "What are you looking at? Isn't that..." The same monsters that were chasing them caught on camera, and already uploaded online for people to see.
"People noticed the ruckus yesterday and recorded it. Luckily there isn't any footage on here showing you use your power. With all the commotion people probably didn't realize it was chasing the car we were in."
"I see, but is this really okay?" she questions, as he puts his cell away.
"We should be fine. Like I said we need to be more careful of using our powers in public places. It'll make things a lot more complicated dealing with the media if people figure out who you are."
...
When the second hour bell rings, Brooklynn is more than a little shocked to hear there's a quiz tomorrow. Him giving one so early in the school year. She always hated math but daydreaming about Josef makes it a little interesting. Glancing back his desk which is already surrounded by a bunch of girls.
"Can you study with us a little later?"
"Yeah, please Josef! We could really use the help."
"Sorry not tonight but I can definitely make time later on, though it'll be after the quiz."
"That's okay, we'll talk to later then." Giggling as they all rush out the door. Any motivation she had in asking him to help her study is ruined. He just told them he was too busy anyway. Picking up her books she stands up to find him right in front of her desk.
"Hello, Hira."
"Ah Josef, hi."
"Jennifer and Nicole haven't been bothering you I take?" He must be talking about the girls from last night. Brooklynn recalls she has seen them in her art class, though they never usually speak to her.
"No they haven't."
"That's good. I was wondering if you needed a study partner for the quiz tomorrow? I figured you could use some help since you just transferred here recently?"
Josef is actually asking her to study after he just turned those girls down for today. Though the answer obvious her mind is struggling to get the words out when Sonny suddenly grabs her arm. "Hira has plans today so it's not going to work."
"Sonny!" Honestly who does he think he is answering for her! She glances back at the blonde who is making an expression she can't quite decipher.
"I see...however couldn't of she said that herself? Girls don't like boys that are so controlling. Though if you're truly busy perhaps some other time." The boys glaring at one another before Josef walks past them out the room. The minute he's out of sight Brooklynn snatches her arm away.
"What is your problem?! He just asked me on a date and you completely turned him down!"
"A study date," he corrects flatly, taking lead down the hallway.
"I don't care what kind of date it was you ruined it."
"You know we need to train again so we can start searching for the Erebus chest."
"Training can be tomorrow but I really need to study for this quiz. You don't want me to fail, do you?" Those words having the ginger walking come to a hault. She's surprised he is actually taking a moment to consider it.
"Fine, you can go."
"Really?"
"On one condition."
...
Later that evening the two stop in front of Josef's room upstairs in the dormitory. She worries is it okay for them to just show up unannounced like this. She-or more Sonny did just turn him down earlier, so he might not even be here right now. Thinking of the possibility makes her head boil as she glares at him casually standing on her right. "I can't believe you came. You don't even need any help."
"I'm your guardian, Brooke. Wherever you go I go."
Like that Gores guy would attack at us here anyway. He's just tagging along to make sure we don't get too close.
Knocking on the door it doesn't take long for him to open. "Oh, hi Hira. I see you've changed your mind," he greets, looking down at her books.
"I came to study with you. I-If you're not busy."
"No, please come in. Why is he here?"
"I need help too."
"Yeah he really insisted. I mean he wouldn't take no for an answer," she growls. Sonny ignoring her harsh gaze as he goes into the room ahead of her.
Strolling inside Brooklynn can hardly believe she's actually in his room. It's decorated in green and white with a large bed placed in the middle. Matching bedroom set that looks really expensive and a bookshelf in the corner. Though books aren't the only thing on display with several trophies as well as a stereo in the corner.
He offers her a place on the foot of the bed next to him, as Sonny takes the chair by his desk. The burnette tries her best to focus on the math, but finding it nearly impossible with them sitting so close.
Is this sweet smell his natural scent? His voice is so angelic I could listen to it for hours...
Sonny for one practically stays quiet most of the time. Probably working well enough on his own considering he understands the math.
His room is so decked out and organized. He's really smart to get this math so easily. I still can't believe he actually invited me here to study.
"So does that make sense? Hira?"
"Um, what?" Blinking a few times when being pulled back to reality, and Josef gives a small chuckle.
"You can't space out while we're going through this. Let's try a different equation this time."
"S-Sure, sorry." Though falling right back into lala land as the blonde leans even closer to her. Explaining to Brooklynn the problem in her notebook.
When so much time passes they finally close up up their books. "I think I'm ready for the quiz tomorrow. How about you?"
"Definitely! Thanks again for helping me."
"No problem at all. I trust you're ready too, Sonny?" Glancing over at the male playing on his phone.
"I'll be fine."
"Well I think we should study together again soon. Have a good night, Hira."
Josef said he wants to study again sometime!
Leaving the room with a bounce in her step as Sonny closes the door behind him. "It's late so I texted Jerry that we couldn't make it. And will you quit making that doppy face, you're creeping me out."
"No I'm not. This is the look of a girl in love."
"Well I just hope you actually studied."
"What do you mean? Sonny!" But her asking falls on deaf ears as they walk back downstairs to their own rooms.

After taking the short quiz they're able to receive the grades by the end of the period, since it would be quick to grade for a small class. Brooklynn waits nervously as he passes each paper back one by one. Mr. Burgan laying hers face down on the desk, and her heart sinks at the red ink marking up top. "I got a C-! How is that possible?! I barely passed and I spent all yesterday studying with Josef..."
"Just as I thought. It was more like he studied," Sonny comments. Her magenta eyes stare daggers into him.
"What are you implying?!"
"Yesterday Josef studied while you studied him and not your books, so of course you practically failed."
"Oh S-Shut up! I was just never that good at math!"
"What grade did you get, Hira? I got an A on mine." She jumps with Josef suddenly leaning over her desk. Quickily stuffing the paper into her bag before he can see it.
"Ah, I got an A too!"
"Oh, really? I though you just said you barley grt-!" Brooklynn stepping on his foot so hard he lets out a small grunt. The blonde stares quizically as she tries to make up a quick excuse.
"Just barley got an A- which is still technically an A so..."
No doubt he saw right through that.
But instead of pressing her about it he simply grins. "I'm happy for you. Well I'll see you later, Hira, Sonny."
She lets out a sigh as the two leave at the bell. "All you do is lie to Josef, don't you? Hira isn't your real name and only got a low C on the quiz."
"Quiet! The Felixa thing isn't my fault. I can't believe you were actually going to tell him my grade! That's something best kept a secret or he won't wanna waste time helping me study anymore. Can't you get that?" She lectures to her so called partner.
"Best left a secret, huh? I guess you have a point. There are things you just don't tell someone..."
"Sonny?" His laidback attitude from a second ago has gone dark. She's never witnessed him having a sudden change like this, and isn't even sure what to say.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't of tried to say anything. Let's hurry and get to class before we're late." Him speeding off ahead of her as his sullen expression stays in mind.
Why does it actually feel like he's apologizing to me for something else?
A/N Is Sonny hiding something from Brooklynn? Next update will be very soon.
