Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"I don't think even we can stop you from this insane decision…" Luca observed in defeat. "And..? How are you going to somehow 'conceal' your pureblood aura? Or much better yet, hide your vampire presence in general?"

Seth blinked at that. "Isn't that too much?" He was hoping for something along the lines of just concealing his noble lineage but still retaining his power as a pureblood vampire.

"Well, are you willing to take Ares's command while pretending to be a lesser vampire then?" Luca's aura tensed even at the thought of having his son pretend to be someone of lesser nobility. "Even if you can somehow pull something like that off, I will definitely not allow it. I won't even be able to imagine the immense humiliation the Hagano Clan will face if anyone else found out."

Seth wanted to say something but he realized he also didn't have the slightest patience to listen to other pureblood's command and pretend to be such a diligent and obedient lesser vampire. His skin crawled just at the thought of it. He would most likely run amok from the sheer humiliation of it all and end up causing havoc in the entire school… which wouldn't end up good for both the Hagano Clan and him in person.

"And besides, that school is very far away, Seth." Muriel reasoned out. "If you were going to hide simply your pureblood aura, we don't know if some newbie nephele might be in the place and mistake you for some low-level vampire or something like that. We don't know if Ares Lir would even be willing to protect a lesser vampire at all."

Seth could understand where she's coming from. Nephele was a term used to pertain to special humans from the Nephele Clan. These humans weren't necessarily blood-related. They were more or less comprised of several families and certain individuals who inherited certain characteristics of supernatural beings. It seemed their ancestors were born out of a human and a supernatural. However, they were most definitely on the human's side and some of them even harbored deep hatred for the supernatural race in general.

Seth couldn't blame them for that since most supernatural beings preyed on humans. And thus, the Nephele Clan and the nephele humans in general were those who fought for humanity's survival. They were an elite group of hunters. They were trained to kill supernatural beings since they were children and they were a very dangerous existence for lower-level supernatural beings.

Only until a millennium ago, the war between the Nephele Clan and several other races was at its peak and millions of lives – both humans and supernatural – were sacrificed unnecessarily. The war even caused innocent civilians to get caught up in the bloodbath and lose their lives in too.

It's true that at the moment, the war between the Nephele Clan and several other races had already come to an end. A treaty protecting the peace of everyone was established between the Nephele Clan and most of the supernatural clans. This treaty was strictly upheld even up to this day. Part of the treaty stated that purebloods – the nobilities of the supernatural world – were not to be harmed by a nephele in any kind of way. However, nephele still had the authority to hunt and kill lower-level supernatural beings, especially since these existences had no control over their thirst for human flesh and blood. It didn't matter whether these beings were vampires, werewolves, or even monsters. They all craved humans and the nephele had the power and authority to hunt them all.

"It's very dangerous." Luca explained seriously. "For such a personal reason as wanting to see Ares Lir in person, I don't think risking your life and the future of the Hagano Clan is worth it."

"Fine…" Seth already looked grumpy by the end of it. "I just need to pretend to be human, right?"

Muriel arched an eyebrow at him. "That's a lot easier said than done. Not even some real humans can act like a human."

"The problem right now is how you're going to do something like that…" Luca's eyebrows were creased. He didn't think this whole marriage arrangement ordeal would become such a big and dangerous issue.

"Isn't there some kind of item that would help?" Seth asked hopefully. "I read about it in human books… that some vampires try to pretend to be human by wearing cursed necklaces or putting charms in their bodies."

"Those are just novels, Seth." Muriel sighed. Her son really didn't know anything about the humans' extent of imagination. "They don't even know about the vampires' existence in real life so they can't possibly know about any of those things. And how many times have I told you not to read those human works? It's against the rules of our clan."

Her statements made Seth scowl again.

Luca thought about it for a while. He then looked at his son. "Are you really sure you want to do this?"

Seth knew his father wanted to confirm his decision. He nodded once and looked at Luca with eyes filled with silent determination as if he was going to some remote area to fight a pureblood war and not just stalk a fiancée.

Luca sighed in defeat. He seriously didn't want to do it but one look into those amethyst eyes so similar to his own and he knew Seth wasn't going to back down at all. "There is a way…"

Both Muriel and Seth's eyes widened at that. They didn't think there would be such an easily accessible item for Seth's goal. They both looked really curious and at the same time pretending to be not too affected by their sudden bout of eagerness.

Luca sighed again. "I seriously don't want to use it, especially not on my own son."

"What do you mean?" Now Muriel didn't know if she wanted to hear it or not.

"Instead of an item…" Luca trailed before he looked at Seth. "I know of a nephele charm which will most likely work."

Both Seth and Muriel's eyes widened that his statement.
