Chapter 1 - Diagnosis

"I'm sorry but there is nothing I can do for you here, I can recommend a good funeral plan if you want." She looks down to the floor, while scratching her neck. Her skin feels hot under her fingers. She looks up to the doctor hopeful.

"Is there someone else you can recommend me to?" He turns his chair to look at the woman.

"There is one I could recommend. Although, he lives in Japan." She looks at him and ponders, before finally answering.

"Please send out the letter to him, he's my only hope."

"We have mail for you doctor." He looks up from his desk, his black hair plastered on his face. his eyes have sunken into their sockets, huge black lines frame his eyes.

"Dr. Tatsuo, as your nurse I must advise that you take the day off and get some well needed sleep." He glares at his nurse.

"There are people who I need to be cared for. Sicknesses don't stop." He stands up abruptly from his desk. Which is piled with a mountain of paperwork. The nurse walks off, with a loud obnoxious sigh. Rolling his eyes, he gathers up the mail that she had left on his desk. As he sifts through the mail, he starts walking around the cramped room. The first two were bills from the electric company, and water company. The third one is the one that stands out the most though, It was a letter from a fellow doctor. He grabs his letter opener that sits upon his desk, and opens up the envelope. He takes out the formal letter, and begins to read.

"I have a patient, I would like to recommend to you. Her name is Evy Ire, she has a very rare sickness that we have no known cure for. It's called Morgellons, contact me if you want to treat the patient." He looks over at his books.

'I've heard about that sickness before.' After thirty minutes of searching, he finally pulls out the book on rare illnesses. He flips over to the back of the book and finds Morgellons.

"A disease characterized by excruciating pain in the windpipe and in the lower stomach, it is thought to be a 'Trojan horse' disease. usually leading to more complex diseases. Not much is known about the disease, people who usually have this disease die within the first year of having contracted it."

He grabs his face, out of tiredness. He looks over to his clock and it reads '9:00 Am' in blaring red numbers.

"Maybe I do need some sleep." He looks down to the letter in his hands. He walks over to the corner of the room, where the coat hanger is and rips his coat off its hanger, puts it on along with his scarf. He opens the door and the light shines into the dark room temporarily blinding him. Once his eyes finally adjust to the light, he looks around the hospital to see the new shift walking around. He walks up to the front desk. The lady in pink smiles up at him. He leans down and asks the lady if she can send an email to someone

"Who am I sending the letter to?" He hands her the paper.

"Can you tell him that I will take the patient?" She nods her head.

"Thank you." He walks off to the front door thinking about sleep.

On the other side of the world, Evy is currently sitting on the couch with a tub of her favorite ice-cream. With tears running down her face, thinking.

'If I'm gonna die then I'm gonna die on a mountain of sugar!' She was very certain that this was going to be her last year, so she'd make it the best year ever. She yawns, her mind fighting with her body, over the Idea of sleep. The thought of another hospital makes her want to cry. She has spent most of her teen years in a hospital. She is tired of living in and out of hospitals.

"I'll give this new doctor a chance, even though I don't want to step into another hospital. I don't want to die." She reaches over and turns on the T.V, after searching through the channels with nothing on. She looks over at her room, she can already see the messiness form where she sat. Clothes scattered around the floor along with her unmade bed in the corner of the room. A big bottle of prescription pills sit on the floor next to her bed. She looks up to the ceiling, debating on whether she should even try to get some sleep.

"I might as well try." she stands up to put her ice cream away and to head to bed. When she's finally dressed in her pj's, she reaches down to the pills pops the top off and takes 3 pills. She lifts the fluffy, inviting covers, gets in, and closes her eyes waiting for sleep to enter.

She opens her eyes only to see the blurred digits of '7:00 Am'. The sound of the alarm clock fills the room. Clearly aggravated and sleep deprived, she grabs her pillow and throws it across the room, hitting the alarm clock, knocking it on the ground. She gathers the blanket around her, trying to go back to sleep and to the 'oh, so glorious dream'. Her phone rings obnoxiously loud, she reaches down and grabs her phone to see a notification. She opens her phone to read the prompt.

'Plane flight to Japan today!! To meet the new doctor!'

"Why am I even trying to live again?" The image of a store front pops into her head with the name of

'Mint Drop Cafe' written in bold mint green text. She looks into the store to see it full of people. The vision ended as soon as it began, but it left her with a happy feeling, placed in the pit of her stomach and extending outward. She stands up with a new found confidence, and moves to pick out her dress for the day.

He opens his eyes, and immediately sits up in bed. knowing how bad it is for someone to sit in bed. He stands up to grab his agenda, for the day.

'New patient.

Name: Evy Ire

Sickness: Morgellons

Age: 25

Sex: Female' He sets the book down and moves to get dressed, once dressed he steps out of his room to get breakfast. Once, his morning meal of rice, miso soup, and an omelet was eaten. He stands and places dishes in the sink. He walks over to the door after grabbing his land-yard and walks out of his house. He walks over and grabs his bike. He kicks up the kick-stand and sets off.

"The ride to the hospital this morning was dreadfully slow."

He states to no one in particular, he glides his bike over to the side of the building and parks his bike at the side of the building, and locks it with his personally made lock. He turns his head to look at the all white, looming building. He sighs with a mixture of relief, and sadness. He looks down to his satchel and pulls out the agenda, to see if he has anything else to do today, other than meeting the new patient. Right below the descriptive notes of Evy, is a line of blue written text it reads,

'Tell Samson, the prognosis, and when he should have a cassette ready.'

He sighs, he's never been good with delivering this kind of news. He never wants to be good with it, because that would mean that he would be failing as a doctor. He closes the book, and walks into the hospital. He walks over to the front desk and scans his ID card to be allowed in. The doors open To reveal nurses and doctors talking with each other and patients being wheeled in and out of rooms. He walks at a slightly faster pace than the other doctors, hoping to finish the paperwork in his room. Before, Evy arrives.

"CAN'T YOU PEOPLE GO ANY FASTER?!?!?!" She shouts at the people in front of her. The people in front of her and behind look at her incredulously. She was beyond angry. She looks ahead of her to see a middle aged man that spoke fluent English. Flirting with the flight desk attendant. She walks out of line, leaving her luggage in her spot to not lose the place she had waited for. She walks up to the man and taps his shoulder to get his attention, he turns around to look at her, with a look of annoyance.

"What do you want?" She looks at him with the kindest smile that she can give with the current situation.

"Do you mind taking your business somewhere else? Where people aren't waiting for an hour for you to stop flirting, with an obviously uncomfortable flight attendant?" The look he gives her makes her blood boil.

"Why don't you mind your own business?"

"Didn't you hear what I just said? you're preventing so many people from completing their business. Do you want me to get the guards?" He looks back at her, with a pissed off look in his eyes.

"And as I said before, Mind your own damn business." He steps closer to her to try and scare her off, she steps forward to solidify her point. The two of them are nose to nose now, both of them bristling with anger. The sound of heavy footsteps are heard, along with the sound of handcuffs hitting against keys.

"What seems to be the problem here, miss?"

"This gentleman has been holding up the line for an hour, and refuses to move."

"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to move." a grin forms on her face. The man looks back to the smirking woman, with a glare in his eye. She moves back into line, to the place where her luggage was, and proceeds to wait in line for an excruciatingly long fifteen minutes. She grabs her ticket from the lady who thanked her profusely, for helping her out. She looks down to the ticket number and finds her waiting area.

"Boarding for flight number 45, boarding flight number 45."

"That's my Que."

She stands and walks over, gives her ticket, and boards the plane. Once she finds her correct seat, she sits and pulls out her headphones and grabs her favorite book from her suitcase and proceeds to zone out for the trip.
