Chapter 8 - Suprise!!

The sound of the alarm clock, disrupts the fantastic visions of a cafe full of people. Evy opens her eyes slowly, hopping to be at home. Only to find the heart rate moniter, and its very annoying sound. A itch starts in her rather dry throat. She reaches up to scratch the itch only for it to move further inside the throat. She looks over to her alarm clock, to see the numbers '5:30' displayed in a bright red. She lazily reaches over and turns of the alarm clock, she grabs her face. trying to remember why she set the alarm so early in the morning for. She looks around the room and finds her answer. A birthday card adresed to her friend, Trafy. A smile crosses her tired face. She opens the door, and makes her way to the showers. After a hot shower, she walks back into the room. She bends down and grabs the sheath case out from under the bed, she sits back down on the bed and waits for the good doctor. After an hour of scilence and reading a few passages of the writting form last night, the door opens to reveal a very tired looking doctor. She puts down her book and looks up at the doctor whose nose is currentaly in a serious stack of papers.

"Good morning, Trafy." The oddly quiet Evy makes the doctor look up from his paperwork. His eyes widen a the sight of party streamers and a big black banner with the words, 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' written out in bright flourensent yellow. His eyes land back on the radiant woman sitting on the hospital bed.

"Happy birthday, Trafy!!" His frown turns into a slow genuine smile. He grabs his forehead in relief.

"You had me worried. You were so quiet."

"Sorry, it looked like you had a rough night. I thought you had a headache."

He walks over to the woman, with a smirk on his pale face. "Well, isn't that sweet of you?" He sits down on the bed looking at Evy.

"Thank you for the party. Its been a long time since I had a party on my honor." Gestures to the long box in the small womans hands.

"Oh, yeah. Sorry, I was a little dazed I guess. Here." Evy hands the long wooden box to the doctor. "I hope you'll like it!" she exclaims with a bright smile. The doctor grabs the box and sets it down on the desk beside the bed. As soon as he opens up the box his eyes widen, with what she hoped was excitement.

"Its..beautiful. How did you afford it?"

"That's a secret. " She states with a twinkle in her eye. Her smile falls to a straight line, as her eyes grow a little cold.

"Trafy. There is something I want to talk to you about."

He looks up at Evy, concerned, but nods his head.

"In these past few days, I might be mistaken but, it seems you have been flirting with me. I want to make this clear, I do not wish to be in a relationship at this time. I do not see you as anymore than a friend, Trafy. I hope it stays that way as well."

He looks away for a moment, his brow furrowed. Thinking.

"Alright, I can see where I went a little too far. I-" He stops, thinking. Trying to rearrange his words.

"I never saw you as more than a friend either, what happened was a little bit of testing the waters to see how far you would let me go."

Her face still remains chilly, as she raises her hand and holds it in place. Seemingly for a hand shake. He grabs her hand, slowly. Once he grabs her hand, her face lights up, with a smile the room seemingly grows warmer and brighter. She looks at the good doctor and states,

"Its nice to know that we have reached a mutual agreement." The doctor heves a audible sigh. He looks up a Evy, only to see her opening her arms for a hug. He raises his eye brows in confusion.

"Hugs for the birthday boy!"

"Oh, ok." He reaches over and closes the distance. They separate after a minute.

"So, where did you learn how to use a sword?"

He looks down at his wrist watch, his face cringes. "I'll have to tell you later. During lunch preferably." He walks away from the bed and grabs his paperwork and clipboard.

"I'll see you during lunch." He walks over to the door.

"See ya at lunch." She calls out to the doctor.

The rest of the morning went by slowly, with Evy reading her books and Trafy working on patients, and even more research. Once lunchtime rolls around, the door opens to reveal the doctors tired face. Evy looks up from her book to see a very tired doctor.

"Well, it looks like you could use a nap."

"You could say that again." He walks over to the desk In the room and sits down. He reaches over for the clipboard on the wall. After a few minutes of silence, the doctor speaks up.

"It seems that there have been no complications for the passed few months. Providing this continues, we should be able to start you on a expiremental medication." He looks at Evy to gauge her reaction. Her face falls at the word expiremental.

"Expiremental. Meaning, you have no idea what kind of effect it will have on me. Right?" A cold feeling washed over her. As the word 'expiremental' floods her mind with images of deformities.

"That's what I said, but you shouldn't have any negative effects." He quickly states, noticing her distraught reaction.

"How long will I be on the medication?" she asks as she looks concerned.

"I don't know yet, but if I need your signature if you want to go through with this proceedure." He walks over to the desk in the room and shuffless around the papers. once he has grabbed the correct papers and replaced the previous charts, he walks over to her with a pen in his hand. He hands the clipboard to the woman, he points down to the only blank line on the page. "Just sign here. This allows me to start administering the experimental cure under certain laws." he states in a monotone voice and hands her the pen in his other hand.

She takes the pen from his other hand, she looks at the document, and reads the titles of the paper and skiming through the rest of it. When she was finished reading she arrives at the last page of the long document. She moves her hand to sign the contract, but stops just before the pen hits the paper.
