Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Magic Circle

"By the power of Hermes, can I PLEASE activate this damn circle!"

With little to no luck, Pierre and Jonathan have been trying to reactivate the teleportation circle for at least an hour now. Unfortunately, if the ancient historic alphabet were so easy to decipher, people would have known how the pyramids were built. Looking at the magic circle, it was riddled all over with ancient text that does not seem to belong in any language.

"Why am I even begging a Greek god when we don't even know where this magic circle came from?!" Laurens was frustrated from chanting unknown nonsense for an hour, so his temper was understandable.

"How would I know? That thing's manual is so old that it could turn to dust any minute. It just says here to chant and borrow from a god the powers to change the clock" Jonathan replied.

"meh, meh, meh, meh, meh" Lauren's jokingly mocked, although he only whispered it so that Jonathan would not notice.

However, Jonathan raised a brow, "What was that? Are you... mocking me?!" For an old man in his late 60s, He had supernaturally good hearing.

"It's not mocking if it's TRUE!"

"GASP!" Jonathan replied with a flare of drama.

The two men stood in silence, both pouting due to a petty argument. Nevertheless, it didn't stop them from progressing with their task.

Laurens searched the books trying to find any information about alchemists and magic circles. Although, if one were to dive deeper into the subject, wouldn't a wizard be more fitting in casting a magic circle rather than an alchemist? The thought haunted Laurens so much that it left him with no choice but to snatch the book from Jonathan's table. He had a dissatisfied pout as he walked away to the other side of the room and sat on the floor because his strict upbringing refused him a place on the chair after an argument with his father.

The book was embroidered with golden threads all across the black leather from what seemed like snakeskin. Although Laurens could not identify what the cover was made of, he could read the contents inside.

The words seemed so unfamiliar at first glance, he wondered how Jonathan could even read it. However as he flipped through the pages, his eyes caught something... It was the words! The moment he flipped through the pages, the words would move to different places. No wonder nothing worked, Jonathan was reading the book as a man, not an alchemist.

"This book was made using alchemy... It's essentially working like how alchemists use their abilities! Jonathan, only alchemists can read this" Having a eureka moment, Laurens enthusiastically ran to the magic circle.

He stood still in the middle of the circle, he looked at the words of the outer ring, and the signs that seemed like gibberish before were all making sense now! This magic circle wasn't a "magic circle" it was a clock! A clock made by a very powerful Alchemist, it could stop and bend time and space by itself.

Laurens' smile turned into a terrified frown, as groundbreaking as this discovery was, it was also as dangerous and terrifying! Who knows what the consequences are when you bend time and space, not a single being on Earth has ever tested it. Teleportation was a much better option, aside from the agonizing pain that is felt while your body is breaking down into tiny pieces, at least it was the body that was adjusting to the law of well... everything.

However, this... This circle was bending time and space itself so that a person—a pile of moving flesh, could travel a shorter distance. In summary, think of it as this... instead of walking to their destination, this alchemist decided to destroy everything in his path, all the way to his destination, move it closer to him, and then sew everything together so he could get to his goal and then destroyed everything again, put it back to where it was, and then restored everything.

"Holy sh*t, Jonathan, how in the ever-loving f*ck did you find this thing?!"

"Why? What's wrong with it?" Jonathan asked confused.

"Everything!"

In the while, Daniel happens to have gotten himself into a precarious situation...

As he was searching for his lost comrades, Daniel stumbled upon Jace, who was wandering around with his awful sense of direction. Even from afar, Daniel could tell that Jace did not know how to read the warning signs, why? Because he entered a construction zone, with a giant sign that said "DO NOT ENTER, DANGEROUS FALLING OBJECTS!" What a Jace-like thing to do.

However, he did not expect that the falling objects were the least of his problems. You see, did it not occur to you how odd it was that a dangerous construction site was not secured properly? Why was it open? What if a kid went inside? Where are the people? Well, the people were at home because it was Labor Day. Yes, a kid did go inside, his name is Jace. It was open because the chains were cut loose as inspected by Daniel. and lastly, It 'was' secured properly.

"Hahahahaha! Look this guy doesn't have eyes!" the loud laughter perked Daniel's ears.

It was coming from inside the unfinished building, there were dust and debris everywhere and unexpectedly, trash too...

"Hey shorty, you should watch where you're going. Oh right, you don't have eyes! HAHAHAHA!" Well, you get the gist, they were bullying Jace.

Daniel hid behind one of the pillars, he thought to himself, "Human thugs! Should I kill them to get rid of the evidence? No... Laurens would kill me!" He looked and peeked behind the pillar to see what was happening.

They were still laughing, there were three people. One was eating his snot, another was smoking crack, and the big guy, who seemed to be the leader, was poking Jace. What a courageous man, not only was he mocking one of the most dangerous people in Hazard Academy, he was even poking him with his bare fingers.

Daniel sobbed as his instincts told him that Jace was about to go on a killing spree, and that could only mean one thing! Daniel had to be his punching bag... or he could stop him, whatever. The first option seemed more fun. Run away or stop a raging Jace, this was his precarious situation.

"Hey, Dofus! Pick someone your size"

A ray of hope to Daniel's unfortunate ending, a woman in a red coat appears!
