Chapter 1 - First Steps

[Welcome to this new world player!]

---

If Alexander would be asked in a few years if there was a moment in his life he could say changed it all he would probably speak of this exact moment.

December 2056 the premiere of the first real VR gaming console was announced the same corporation would also release the first real VR game ´Reimagined´. An open-world fantasy styled VRMMORPG with one of it's main selling feature being the custom characters you could create, lets not even mention the fact that it is the first VR game that is able to simulate touch, smell and taste with up to 99% realism.

---

[Please create your starting character.]

[First choose your type. This will have the most impact on your gaming experience, so please choose carefully!]

[Humanoid - The standard type including elves, dwarfs etc.. These are the NPC types most prominent in this world. They only gain one skill point* with five level ups, but they are welcome in all humanoid towns, cities and countries and in nearly all semi-humanoid towns, cities and countries. They also don't suffer any penalties when taking quests.]

[*Skill points can be used to acquire new skills or level up maxed ones.]

[Semi-Humanoid - This type includes all all semi-humanoid types, this includes animal-people (yes, cat-people are also included). They gain one skill point and one physique point* after five level ups. They have higher base stats and stat growth depending on the chosen race, but they also suffer penalties when accepting quests. Some humanoid NPCs won't give quests to semi-humanoid players. Also they are not welcome in all humanoid towns, cities and countries, even hunted as slaves in some, but are welcome in all semi-humanoid towns, cities and countries.]

[*Physique points can be used to acquire changes and enhancements for the character after the creation of the character.]

[Monstrosities - Your imagination is your limit. From slimes, elemental golems, treants, werewolves to undead there is nearly everything. The monstrosities have the most pronounced strengths, but also pronounced weaknesses. They gain one skill point, one physique point and one universal point* every five level ups. They have even higher base stats and stat growth than semi-humanoids and also sport elemental resistances, but also elemental weaknesses and also most can't equip armour (most undead can equip armour but not all armour is equip-able by undead because of the elemental weaknesses). They can't take quests from humanoid NPCs and only some semi-humanoid ones offer them quests, but only with a penalty**. They aren't welcome in either humanoid or semi-humanoid towns, cities and countries***.]

[*Universal points can be used to either upgrade or unlock skills or acquire changes or enhancements for the character]

[**There are quests giving by monstrosities, but these NPCs are rare.]

[***Infiltration is possible, but the player will be chased and possibly killed by the guards.]

[WARNING: Something else to consider is that humanoid players gain 30% XP when killing humanoid players or NPCs, 100% XP when killing semi-humanoid players or NPCs and 150% XP when killing monstrosities. Semi-humanoid players gain 125% XP when killing humanoid players or NPCs, 100% XP when killing semi-humanoid players or NPCs and 140% XP when killing monstrosities. Monstrosities gain 125% XP when killing humanoid or semi-humanoid players or NPCs and 110% when killing monstrosities. The XP gained from killing a player is triple the XP gained from killing an NPC monster of the same level.]

´So basically the player population gets split in three groups. It is kind of obvious that most players will choose the humanoid or semi-humanoid type, since they offer a rather easy gaming experience, since you aren't even able to enter towns openly when choosing the monstrosities. Let's just forget quests. I somehow have a hunch that the quests given by monstrosities aren't your normal type, because lets be real: The perks gained from choosing monstrosities are seriously overpowered. You can either go with a pure skill build and have double the amount of skills compared to humanoids and semi-humanoids or have a seriously boosted physique.´

This my dear readers are the thoughts of Alexander, or main character. He turned 21 years old this year, is 6'2'' tall, has short brown hair with brown eyes and is kind of fit, well lets better say slim. His family died last year on the way to visit him on his 20th birthday. Feeling like the world had forsaken him and nothing really seemed to go right he spent part of his inheritance on a nice flat and lived by himself. He didn't really have any motivation for anything and just let each day pass by, like the day before. This obviously changed, well not really, he was just trying to escape from the real world by playing this VRMMORPG.

„Hey system, is this decision permanent? Or can I reset my account?"

[The player can't reset the account or create a new one. Slight changes are possible though, within the same category of course. It is possible to reset your used skill and physique points by dying repetitively.]

„Well I don't want to do that... Select ´Monstrosities´"

[Are you sure you want to choose ´Monstrosities´?]

„Yes!"

[Affirmative. Please select a race before proceeding to choose a class. The possible classes depend on your race.]

Alexander could see a list that didn't really seem to end. There were surprisingly also all kind of animals.

´So you could hypothetically be killed by by a killer rabbit. Good to know.´

There were also more mythical creatures like minotaurs, wyverns, yetis, specters, unicorns and even dragonlings. You could already imagine what kind of carnage a high level monstrosity player could cause. And of course there were also many different kinds of undead.

´I already knew what I was going to choose.´

„System I want to be a Lich."
