Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

My name is Sakura Suzuya, I come from a family of demon hunters. The demon hunter blood was passed from my grandfather, Akiyoshi, to my father Iroh. Only one of the siblings in a family can possess the blood, the one born in a full moon. The problem is, my parents had twins, my brother Ken and I. It was impossible to know which one of us inherited it, as we unlock our superhuman abilities at eighteen. Yet my family was convinced that it's their son, and not their useless daughter. I believed that too, Ken always has been a special child, excelling in everything he did. I on the other hand, was a failure. So on our ninth birthday, when it was clear to everyone who's the better sibling, they started training Ken, fully neglecting me. I didn't blame them though. Bad grades, can't run for shit, I can't even walk to the store without panting. So yeah, they didn't want to waste their time on me.

I was sitting in my corner, watching people partying in my house, to celebrate Ken's eighteenth birthday. It was my birthday too, not that anyone cared.

Soon enough I got tired of all the noise, and went to our backyard for some fresh air. The fence was surrounded with Arborvitae trees, hiding us from our neighbors' houses. I sat on the bench, and contemplated the beautiful multicolored tulips, encircling our house. We had a small fish pond in the middle with rock edges, and plants all around it, providing cover for the fish.

"Almost midnight." I signed as I checked my phone, when will this be over I just want to sleep.

Suddenly, I heard a rumbling sound. At first, I decided to ignore it, but then, it kept getting louder and louder. I looked up to check the cause of this sound, and froze in place at the sight in front of me. A demon. This means one thing. The gates were open.

I tried to get up and make a run for it, since trying to fight was useless. Demons can only be killed by demon hunters, or soldiers with special weapons. Seeing as I'm neither of those, running was my only option.

He raised his hand controlling my body, making sure that I couldn't move. I tried to scream, but it was pointless, the music was too loud.

"TEN,NINE,EIGHT..." Everyone counted from my house. Ten seconds until midnight, ten seconds until Ken gets his powers, ten seconds until I die.

Will my brother make it in time? Will anyone notice? Is this the end?

I don't want to die like that, I don't want to be eaten alive. Tears streamed down my face. as the monster got closer to me.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" They shouted.

Unexpectedly, I felt like I could move again, did he want me to resist him while he was eating me for more fun? I didn't know.

Everything next happened so fast. He jumped at me, I raised my hands to hide my face by reflex.

I heard a loud buzzy sound, and felt tingles in my hands. Hesitantly I opened my eyes to find the demon knocked down on the floor, smoke coming out of his head, and purple light out of mine.

Lightning? What was happening? It couldn't be!

The buzzy sound was apparently louder than the music. Everyone, including my family, rushed outside, neighbors came out to their balconies, all of them wanted to check the cause of that.

All eyes were on me, sitting back on the bench, purple light radiating out of my hand, they looked as shocked as I was.

"Sakura?" My dad said, his voice came out as a whisper, it was full with concern.

My vision got blurry, I couldn't hear anything, And then... Everything went blank!

***

"How could you make a mistake like that." I woke up, and heard muffled voices coming out of my bedroom as I laid on my bed.

"We didn't know, we just assumed-" A voice I know too well to be my dad's, defended.

"Assumed? Humanity is at stake. If she isn't ready by the next blue moon, which is in five months, we're all going to die. They can't seal the gates without her!" An unfamiliar voice argued, I could tell that he was angry.

What was happening? Did I pass out? Considering their little conversation, I was sure that last night's events weren't merely a dream. It was true, it was real. I didn't know how to feel about this.

The door to my room opened, and a very concerned father, with a serious looking man entered.

"How are you feeling?" Papa sat on the edge of the bed and asked me.

"I'm good. Still shocked, but good." I replied.

"In case you didn't realize it yet, you're the seventh knight." The stranger bluntly stated, I nodded in response. "I'm Rei Takahashi, chef of ADO (Anti-demons organization.) It's no secret that you're far behind on your training, nine years late, to be exact." He added, this man had no chill.

"Yeah I know." I politely answered.

"Yeah...So why are you still laying on your bed? Get up, there's no time to waste!" He ordered and left my room.

"Listen I'm sorry..." Papa started, he looked so guilty, it made me feel bad.

"You have nothing to apologize for papa." I warmly smiled at him.

Seeing as it didn't cheer him up, I tried to change the conversation. "So, how do you feel without your powers?" I inquired.

Papa lost his powers, since they were passed down to me.

"Weird." He admitted with a smile.

"How's Ken?" I asked. I was worried about my brother, it must've been hard for him.

"He's cooping..." He answered, averting his eyes from mine. "Enough chit chat." He said as he got up, and clapped. "Get ready, you're going to ADO to train there with the other hunters."

"WHAT? Aren't you the one who's gonna train me?"

"We'll do extra and side trainings together, but you still have to go there everyday. It's important to train with your teammates. Besides, there's no more time, demons are starting to appear all around Tokyo. It's only a matter of time before they attack, and end the world." And with that, he left.

I got up, and started to get ready. How am I going to train with them? By now, they had to be very skilled, and I'm, well...Me.

A good for nothing girl, who has to deal with an apocalypse.

Well this ought to be very promising.
