Chapter 22 - Teenage Devas (Part 2)

"This is my place of residence for now." Metro looked at the small squatter house that he had inherited. There were some stains on the wall paint and even some black spray paint that was sprayed messily, "Pay up to Black Tar Gang or we will make your life a living hell!"

"Black Tar Gang? Could this be to do with how this guy got himself killed? Or was it the Genetic Malformation finally getting to him? But that doesn't explain why he was in the dumpster." Metro thought about how Hawthorn Lee died as he jiggled the doorknob. He did not have any items on himself, not even the keys to this house.

"Tsk. Forget it. I should just look if there's a window instead." Metro did not want to break the door forcefully or pull the doorknob out. After all, if this was going to be his residence, he did not want people just wandering in and out through an empty doorway.

Metro surveyed the house from afar. It was part of a tightly packed row of houses, so it only had one window at the side of the house, a "privilege" for being the last house of the row. Going over to the window, Metro slid it open with a small push. From there, he could see the rest of the house.

"Not even a locking mechanism? How much did this Hawthorn Lee pay for rent? 300 dollars a month?" The house was shabby enough as it is, but Metro had not expected that there was not even basic protection for the house at all.

Metro sighed and entered the house. Even though the outside looked run down, the inside of the house was incredibly well maintained. The closet only had two more pairs of school uniforms, and a pair well worn of sneakers laid on a shoe rack.

There was a pillow and blanket on the floor. Metro touched the pillow, and felt only a minimal amount of stuffing. As for the blanket, it was used to cover the body, and there was no other choice than to sleep on the hard floor.

"Yeah, I don't think I'm sleeping here. Is there a shower here?" Even though the liquid had solidified under the sun already, Metro still wanted to get it off as fast as possible. The whole size of the house was more like a room than an actual house, so Metro found the shower at a small corner. It was separated from the rest of the room by only shower curtains and a few bricks.

Pulling back the curtains, Metro found that there was only a drain, a tap, a pail of water that had a blue brush inside it. Through the reflection of the water, Metro could see that he had brown hair, and had tanned skin. His face had also changed shape into a skinnier one, while his eyes had become incredibly big.

After viewing his reflection, Metro quickly removed the dirty clothes and cleansed his body with cold water from the bucket while scrubbing his body. Surprisingly, there were no rashes that popped up on his body. Metro suspected that it had something to do with his physique.

As Metro poured more water into the bucket to shower more thoroughly, the flow of water stopped halfway. Metro's face turned into one of panic as he slapped the tap, wondering if something was wrong with it. The tap refused to release any more water, so Metro ran out of the small corner to check if other sources of water was still working. They were all not working.

"Water rationing? What kind of dystopian society have I entered?" Metro checked the watch on his hand to see how much time he had. It had returned after he had came to this world. So far, he had 6 hours left. Completing the main mission in the last scenario had granted him more time, even if it was due to an uncontrollable circumstance.

"6 hours... not even enough time to sleep." Metro took one pair of uniforms in the closet and wiped himself dry with it, before wearing the other dry pair. It was the only suitable clothing he could find. It would also be crucial for him to blend in with the students at Undefeated High School.

Undefeated High School looked to be the only lead he had on the identity of the host, besides the nickname Hawthorn Lee. Metro tried searching for more clues around the house or at least some form of currency, but the pauper's house turned up nothing. If there was not clothing or shoes, one would have thought that the house was ransacked.

Slipping the pair of used sneakers on, Metro wandered back to the street he had stumbled into from the alley. It was quite a short walk, as they were not far from each other. Dressed in the uniform, Metro started wandering the street, looking for a public map of the area. He had wanted to use a phone, but if Hawthorn Lee couldn't even afford a decent house, how could he afford a phone?

"Or I could just steal one." Metro's eyes turned dark for a moment. There was no way that he could avoid spilling blood if he really wanted to live from now on, since no events or enemies were going to pop up willingly for him to execute. However, just the thought of murdering someone innocent made his hands start shaking and bite his lips.

Clenching his fists tight, Metro headed into a random shop. As he opened the shop door, an automatic jingle was released. From the looks of the shop, it was fairly clean, with some breads displayed for sale.

"Welcome to Ann's Baking... Oh? What are you doing here? Can you get out? You're just dirtying the floor. I need to clean them later, you dog." The girl at the reception counter droned our her greeting at first, but her tone turned into a more malicious one when she saw that it was Metro. Ignoring him, she returned to browsing her phone, unaware of her surroundings.

That also meant that she was unaware when Metro pounced in her suddenly and pinned her down onto the floor. Metro started punching away at her temples, which were the best places to punch to cause a concussion and loss of consciousness. With every punch, he was seemingly injected with a burst of adrenaline.

Soon enough, she laid collapsed on the floor, consciousness long gone. The phone that she had been browsing slid to the side, as Metro picked it up and made sure that it didn't close. Picking up a nearby butter knife, Metro turned the girl face up, and stabbed it deep within her eye and into the brain over and over again, to make sure that she was dead.

Checking his watch, Metro found that the time he had obtained had actually been 1 whole hour. By committing the killing himself, he had gained significantly more time, which made Metro slightly smile a little after the murder.

As the girl's brain and blood oozed out over the floor, Metro searched for the Undefeated High School on it. It turned out that this internet did not really differ from his past life, and had similar features, except for some name changes to certain services. They even had a map service, so Metro took the phone with him.

Stepping over the girl's body and the thickened pool of blood, Metro whistled as he exited the shop, unaware that there were cameras that had captured his actions in the shop. Those cameras were transmitting to somebody, who watched it live.

"A student of Undefeated High School dares to make trouble in my area? Luke, An Shi, go to Undefeated High School and look for the student with this tracker." The man who was making the livestream spoke to a few people behind his office chair.

"Yes, boss."
