Chapter 3 - Two New Friends

Saturday and Sunday felt like a breeze.

It's Monday.

I'm sitting in the darn Bio lab. I seriously hate Mondays.

Mrs. Mendez changed our lab partners today. I have to sit with Jean Willows. He's nice.

But oh boy, boring. He hasn't spoken a word to me for the past twenty minutes. I mean, I haven't seen anyone this quiet. Having a lab partner like this somehow makes it even more difficult to cope up with Mrs.Mendez's droning.

Mrs.Mendez is like a bee. She mumbles a lot and it's exactly like a bee buzzing. She even wears a lot of yellow. Coincidence?. I think not. She even likes bees.

I guess I'll have to talk to Jean first or he'll never speak up.

"So... you interested in science?". I whisper.

"Kinda... what about you?"

"Same"

Jean's in my class during Chemistry. I guess we'll talk more then. Mrs.Mendez assigned a new project. We have to make a still-model structure of DNA along with our partners.

Rrrrrrrrrring.

There goes the bell. I pick up my books and stuff them into my backpack. It's time for Math.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's a new kid in Math class. Her name's Nazareth Diane Pierce. She's tall and has long red hair.

Pretty.

She even has blue eyes that's the same shade as Addy's. Miss. Polly makes tells her to sit next to me and gave the whole class ten minutes of free time. I thought I might as well start a conversation with her.

"Hi, I'm Ditto. Nice to meet you"

"Call me Naz. Nice to meet you too"

How I wanted to introduce her to Addy. We'd have a trio then.

"Do you wanna meet my friend Addy tomorrow?" I ask.

"Addy? as in Adelia?"

"Yeah. Adelia Caraway. You know her?"

"Adelia's my cousin, actually," she said with a smile.

"Wow"

Lemme just say I have a great feeling the three of us would make the best trio. Ever.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jean and I have to get started on that Biology project today as it has to be turned in this Wednesday. I asked him during Chemistry class if it would be okay to do it today. He said yes. So today, at 4 I have to gather my art supplies and head off to Lavender Hill where we'll get started on it.

Addy, Naz, and I took the School Bus together. I was right. Naz fit right in and the three of us are officially a trio.

The amount of noise the Pop Squad made was unbelievable. Screaming, and shouting and laughing and throwing food around and whatnot. Good thing we stayed well away from them.

Naz's house is quite far away from me and Addy's. But that's okay, we can always go cycling over to her place. Naz is British and comes from Addy's Mom's side that's British. But she's been staying in America since she was born so she doesn't speak in that accent. She's quite interesting.

Today, so far, is turning out to be a really good day. The First Monday I've ever enjoyed during 9th grade.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At 4, I packed up my Art supplies and raced up Lavender Hill. The sun was shining a bit too bright for November.

Jean was standing at the top of the hill, with a plastic bag full of supplies.

"Hey" I said, panting.

"Hey"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The work took two whole hours, but it was worth it. We sat and looked at the sun, that, for some reason, was still shining. I looked at him.

His hair is straight and very messy. And his eyes are green. Very green, like a leaf. He's lean and has long legs. He must be an athlete.

"What?" he asked.

"You must be a runner"

"No, I'm not. I'm not too good with races, but I can run."

"Who's taking the project home?"

"I'll do it"

We talked for a while and I learned that Jean Pierre Willows was French, had two sisters and an older brother and that his mom was a great artist. He really enjoys drawing and likes to play the piano as well. ( I used to play piano too, but that was quite a few years ago).

At eight-thirty pm, we headed downhill.

"It was nice getting to know you Jean"

"Nice getting to know you too, Dittany"

"Ditto"

"Whatever, anyway, bye"

"Bye... oh,and by the way, would you like to hang out with Addy, Naz and me this Friday?"

"Sure"

I just gained two good friends in a day.

And I can't believe I never noticed that Jean was such an interesting person and never got to meet him properly before.
