"There you are, Faye… sneaky one aren't you? I have been looking for you all day, little one." Giggled the imperial mage as she poked the back of the child's head.
"Can you please leave me be? I would like to finish reading my book." Faye sighed with irritation.
"My my… you already think you are too good for your master after being chosen by the emperor's child, I see."The imperial mage snatched the book out of Faye's hands in a teasing manner.
"Let's get this straight. One, you are not my master. In fact, I am here because you needed a mage with teleportation abilities, and I was bored enough to say yes. Two, what master makes a paying contract for their servant? None. That means we are not in a 'master- servant' relationship. I do you favors, and you pay me, and three, I don't 'think' I am too good. I know I am too good. I am too good to be here, wasting my talents when I can be elsewhere, finding my purpose. Now can I have my book?" Faye replied with an agitated tone.
"Ha!!! My little Faye, so much talk with so little bite! How long are you going to keep your facade for? Hmm? Oh, that's right. The child thinks you're a girl! Lucky for you and that pretty little face and fragile body, right? Fix that mop on your head, you call hair. The last thing we need is for you to be caught now. Who would have thought that damn child would have chosen you of all the mages I have."
The room grew silent, causing the imperial mage to rub her temples with her fingers in frustration.
"Listen Faye. Never mind that. I can use this to my advantage. You are young, baby-faced, and talented. The princess already has the impression that you two will be 'friends'. Why don't you do me a favor and become close to the princess? Dig up some dirt for me. Besides, the princess needs an older 'sister' figure to guide her between wrong and right, and you will get the coins you oh, so desire. If you do your job right, you can get your money before you even get caught. As you know, you are a preteen. One day you are cute and small. Before you know it, you will see changes in your body that no one can deny one's gender. What do you say? Do this while you can put that pretty face to use." The imperial mage tried convincing while placing her hand on Faye's shoulder.
"...Fine.. but you better double my pay going forward," Faye smirked with confidence.
The imperial mage sighed as she tilted her head.
"You and money… fine fine… You have my word..."
"No… I need that in writing. An actual written contract. You know I do not complete any favors without a contract." Faye interrupted.
The imperial mage snapped her fingers, making a stack of papers and a calligraphy pen fly towards her direction, landing on the table.
Within seconds, the floating pen scribbled against the paper at lightning speed.
"There, read over it and sign… you have my word. Get close to the princess, give me every information you have of her… preferably anything I can use against the emperor and you will get your money's worth."
"Write in the contract that I will only do this until I decide to quit being her personal mage, and trainer. The last thing I need is to fall for a faulty contract." Faye tossed the contract towards the imperial mage.
"Very well, Faye. But keep in mind that your life is on the line. If you are caught, you will be committing treason against the imperial family. There is no saving you then." The imperial mage stated as she stacked the contract papers neatly.
"There is no such thing as committing treason if I did not correct someone's assumption of me. Who am I to correct an imperial member? If they want to assume, let them. I know my laws just as much as the next Giodivonian citizen, or royal guard. I just know how to play my cards right, that's all. There… The contract is signed and I will be taking it for my sake. Now if you excuse me, this 'girl' has a friend to make tomorrow." Faye smiled as he took off the messy wig, revealing ice-blonde hair that laid gently on his forehead.
