I raised my eyebrow in confusion.
Pft, as if I want to read anything that bastard wrote. Throw it away, burn it, I do not care. I may be able to read and write more than you think due to my past age, but I refuse to have that letter in my possession.
"Please throw it away, Marina. I do not want it." I responded as I adjusted my head on the pillow.
Marina frowned as a response. She knows very well about my feelings towards the 'emperor,' and they are not friendly. When I think I made actual progress in making this bastard more human-like towards me, he always does something to mess it up. One step forward, two steps back is the perfect idiom for this situation. The only thing that the trashman has going for him is his height and his appearance.
"Very well, Princess. I will place the letter on your nightstand. I will prepare your bath now. Rest for now." Marina smiled as she walked away.
I looked at her, place the letter on the nightstand, and stared at the letter.
The nerve of this man. THE DAMN NERVE. Just who does he think he is? Sure, okay… He is the ruler of this country. So what? SO WHAT?!
I sat up and reached for the letter.
Each letter from my name was written in perfect penmanship.
Okay, you have another excellent quality. You have outstanding calligraphy skills. You made my name look like a masterpiece. Still, that means nothing. You are still trash.
Marina came out of the bathroom. I quickly placed the letter under my pillow and smiled at her nervously.
She looked at the nightstand where the letter was placed. She smiled and overlooked my embarrassing reaction by avoiding the letter talk.
"Let's get you all cleaned up before your breakfast gets here." Marina said as she picked me up from the bed.
"Please change the Princess's sheets and pillowcases. Have another maid help you to expedite the process. Also, have one of the butlers check on her meal status and report back to me." Marina explained.
My eyes shot open when I realized I left the letter underneath the pillow.
"WAIT!" I yelled as I squirmed around in Marina's arms.
"What is it, Princess?" Questioned Marina in panic as she held me tightly in her arms.
"The… the letter… It's under the pillow." I mumbled as I buried my head in embarrassment.
"There is a letter underneath the Princess's pillow. Please place it on the nightstand with care. It is from his majesty to the Princess." Snickered Marina.
I looked at her in disbelief.
I thought you were my friend, Marina. This is how you betray me? By making fun of me? I am just curious about the letter. I don't care for it. I will throw it away once I laugh at what is written on the damn paper. Jeez. So much for living comfortably away from that trashman. Now my nanny is a bully.
"I didn't mean it with an ill-intention, Princess. I know his majesty has a small place in your heart. He is a man of few words. However, you have no idea how much his majesty favors you." Marina stated as she removed my nightgown.
"How? How does he care for me?" I responded as I looked away, covering my naked body with my tiny hands.
"For starters, If his majesty did not care for the Princess, he would have never moved you to the emerald palace. This is the second sacred place, aside from the holy church. His majesty had this place blessed by all of the holy priests before he married the former empress." Marina explained as she gently placed me into the bathtub, filled with warm water.
I remained quiet as I looked at the bubbles form around me.
"I was not there when the lake accident occurred since his majesty ordered only one maid to watch over you while he was attending business. However, from what I heard from everyone, while his majesty was trying to save you, he was severely troubled, Princess. No one has ever seen his majesty like that before. One maid even stated that he saw his majesty in tears. It was a horrible day. My, my." Marina continued.
As I wrapped my arms around my bent legs, I rested my head on my knees.
On the verge of tears, huh? Interesting. That would have been interesting to see. I have only seen him in tears once, and that was when he was having his headache problems. Pain and anguish are two different things. Maybe the maid needs glasses. I doubt he was crying over me—what a silly thought.
Marina finished washing me and dried me with a towel.
As she carried me out of the bathroom and into my room - I could see several food trolleys by my bed.
My face quickly lit up at the sight of food and desserts.
My mouth began to water.
Marina gently placed me on my bed and adjusted my pillows once again so I could comfortably sit up.
"The imperial doctor is here to see the princess, Marina." One of the maids announced.
Ugh, geat. Now I have to wait till this old man is done with my check-up.
A short, old man came in with his black medical bag.
"Princess, I am glad to see you are awake. Let me quickly run a health check on you so I can report your current health to his majesty." explained to the old man as he placed his bag on the table next to my bed.
He placed his fingers on my wrist and waited quietly while looking at his pocket watch.
"Mmhm… good." He mumbled as he wrote down numbers in his notebook.
"I will now check your ears, eyes, and mouth. Let's start with your mouth. Open wide, Princess." Ordered the old man.
Wow, this brings back memories of my old life, back to gagging on a stick going deep into my mouth.
"Mmhm, good. Very good. Now, let's check your temperature… Very good. Your temperature is back to normal. This is wonderful news. Focus your eyes with this stick until I stop it, Princess." continued the old man.
I nodded in frustration.
Can you hurry up? I am dying of starvation, and I have seven food trolleys to scarf down.
"Perfect. Thank you very much, Princess. Your health is nearly perfect. Only expected by the royal family. You are blessed with the Giodivonian blessed gift of health. I will report your health status to his majesty. He will be delighted to know you are awake and well. Marina, make sure the Princess does not use her strength. I will check on her periodically." The old man smiled as he placed away from his tools back into his medical bag.
Delighted? Pfft. Whatever, old man. Please leave so I can eat in peace. Wait, where is my letter?
