I looked around my surroundings for the letter.
Where is it? Marina ordered the maids to place it on my nightstand while they changed my covers. What the hell?!
"I placed it under your pillow, Princess. Do not worry." Marina smiled as she brought a tray to me.
I nodded with shame and looked at the tray.
"Let's start with the stew. This has chopped steak and fresh vegetables. High on protein and starch to gain back your strength."
Forget the stew; give me the desserts! Just looking at them gives me joy.
After my breakfast and dessert feast, Marina kissed the top of my head and smiled.
"Bless the Giodivonian gods for your recovery, Princess. I will let you rest." Marina winked at me as she left the room.
This sneaky lady. She winked at me so that I can take a look at the letter this trashman wrote me. Very well played. Okay, you leave me no choice. For the sake of my curiosity and laughs, I will open the letter.
I turned around, facing my pillows, and grabbed the letter.
I opened the letter with care and took out the folded piece of paper.
"Wow, this is really fancy paper. Okay. Let's see what that bastard wrote." I mumbled as I examined the letter's quality.
.
.
'Amara,
By the time you read this letter, I will be far away. However, you will have Hansol in your care until my return. It is a shame that I was unable to say my farewells to you. That being said, Many great upbringings will come your way while I am gone. I will make my outing short, so do not fret. Eat well, and study hard.
Xavier
P.S. Marina is aware of my request. In my absence, you are expected to write about your day to me in great detail every night before you go to bed. Fail to do so, I will be forced to execute your nanny. Until next time.'
.
.
Did this bastard lose his damn mind?! Write a letter to him every night?! Kill my nanny If I refuse to write a letter to him?! What is this?! This is abuse! I am five years old! How can you make a five-year-old write to you every night?! I complimented your calligraphy skills, and this is what you write to a child?! A threatening letter?! Why is my life like this?!
I balled up the letter angrily and chunked the balled-up piece of paper across the room with all my might. I laid back in bed and stared at my ceiling.
This man is from another world. No. Scratch that. He is from another universe. I am an innocent child that everyone cherishes. Yet, you treat me like your enemy. Tsk. I am baffled beyond words. SPEECHLESS.
When was Marina planning on telling me this? This is ridiculous. Whatever. I am going to sleep. I cannot write a letter if I am asleep, right?
I laid comfortably on my bed and dozed off peacefully into a dark sleep.
"Princess… Princess, wake up. It is time for your health check-up, and dinner has arrived as well." A voice from far away drifted in and out.
"Mmm… okay… I'm awake." I rubbed my eyes as Marina helped me sit up from my bed.
"Good afternoon, Princess. I am here to check your health. I will do the same as I did this morning. Is that alright with you, Princess?' the old man asked for permission as he adjusted his glasses.
I nodded and began the health check. I could see Marina in the corner of my eye pick up the balled-up piece of paper I chucked across the room in the morning.
I began to gag as a reaction as he shoved the stick in my mouth.
"My… my apologies! Please forgive me, Princess. I will be more gentle!" apologized the old man as he began to shake in fear.
Man, your life must suck. Always living in fear since your boss is the tyrant emperor. I did not choke because of you; it was because she picked up the balled-up piece of paper, and she may read it now. Damn it.
"All done. Please excuse me, Princess. I will see you tomorrow morning. Marina, please let me know if anything changes with the Princess's health or behavior. I will take my leave." The old man said as he headed out the door.
KNOCK
KNOCK
KNOCK
My eyes quickly averted to the door out of curiosity.
"It's me, Hansol, Princess. May I come in?" A familiar voice rang outside the door.
I smiled at the sound of hearing a friendly voice.
"Yes! Please come in!" I responded in an excited tone.
Hansol walked in and smiled from ear to ear.
"Please feed the princess. I will not be long." Hansol ordered Marina and the maids into the room.
They nodded and began to set up the tray with food from the food trolley.
"I dropped by this morning when I heard the news. Unfortunately, you were fast asleep. I am delighted to hear that you woke up and are feeling much better. You also regained your appetite, I see." He smiled as he sat on the chair near my bed.
I nodded as I chewed the food being placed in my mouth.
"Yes! I am happy to see you too, Han han!" I replied as soon as I swallowed.
Hansol crossed his arms as he looked at me with concern.
"How are you feeling? Aside from your health, I mean." Hansol leaned in as he questioned me.
I tilted my head in confusion as a spoonful of food entered my mouth.
I placed my finger up as a sign to pause the conversation as I chewed and swallowed.
"What do you mean, Han han?" I questioned while looking at him.
He glanced at Marina and looked back at me.
"Well, I do not know if it was brought to your attention that his majesty - your father and Ezra will be gone for quite some time. If all goes well, they will be back in a few months. However, It may take longer than that." Hansol explained.
Marina and the other maid that stayed in the room looked at each other and excused themselves out.
I looked at my half-finished food on the tray in front of me for a while. I smiled at Hansol.
"I will be okay. I am not the one who left. He left me, Right? I have you and Marina. That is all I need. This food is yummy. Want some?" I responded with a change of subject.
Hansol displayed a shocked reaction and nodded.
"Have a wonderful dinner, Princess. I will see you tomorrow." Hansol replied as he got up and headed out the door.
Teardrops began to fall on my plate, followed by weeping.
Marina rushed in at the sound of my cry. She placed the tray on the food trolley and began to hug me tightly.
