Chapter 39 - The South

Back to the laundry hamper I go!

I can hear yelling and panicking all over the palace. Man, I should step out and go out. They can get in huge trouble. Since I am missing, does that mean everyone will go out and look for me? Not like that bastard would care or anything. Maybe he will throw a party.

"Finally! That brat is gone! I can continue being an angry alcoholic! Whoo-hoo!" I mimicked that crazy bastard of a father.

Ugh, I can imagine it so well. Well, guess what, douche bag! I am staying right here until I find the opportunity to leave!

After what felt like an eternity, I heard a door opening.

"The emperor is on his way here! He has the chancellor and a lot of guards with him! Are we going to die? Where is the princess? Quick! We need to head down there before he executes us!"

What the hell? Why is he on his way here? How annoying. Mind your business, trashman. Just go back and get drunk!

If everyone will be downstairs, that means I can make my way to the back of the palace and get out through the back door! I can use the back stairs! Yes! This is my chance!

I quickly got out of the hamper and slowly opened the door. I could hear distant conversations from downstairs. As I made my way to the back staircase, I thought about Marina. Will she be okay? I hope she doesn't get in trouble. This is his fault anyway. He sucks so much that he has a five-year-old running away!

I finally made my way down the stairs and out the back doors that lead to the imperial garden. Weird that I do not see anyone out here. Where is everyone? I usually see guards walking around at this time. This is a call! A time to run away!

I must make my way to the woods. It's a bit far away, but if I run now, I'll make it in no time. If I remember the map from my geography class, if I continue to follow the white brick path, passing the imperial chapel and the library, I will eventually get to the woods. I am sure I can find a way to go through it.

Xavier busted through the emerald doors with power.

A gust of wind came in as he made his entry into the palace. Hansol and a group of knights walked in unison behind Xavier, waiting for his next command.

'WHERE IS THE PRINCESS?! MARINA, WHERE IS SHE?!' He yelled.

Everyone trembled in fear at the tone of his voice.

"I… I had … Evelina give the princess her bath since I was not feeling well, your majesty. It is my fault. Please punish me, your majesty, as I have committed a crime!" Cried Marina as she fell to her knees, asking for punishment.

"You, take her to the dungeon. She will face execution at a later time. Who is Evelina? Come forth, whoever has this name!" Xavier demanded in an aggressive tone.

Everyone looked at each other and pushed Evelina out to the front. She fell to the ground and began to cry.

"Your...Majesty, the princess wanted warm..milk before her bath… so I… left to get it for her. It was Amerile who saw her last! Your majesty! I swear on my life!"

"ENOUGH! TAKE THIS TRASH AND THE OTHER TRASH WHO SAW HER LAST TO THE DUNGEON FOR THEIR EXECUTION! THE REST OF YOU SEARCH HIGH AND LOW FOR HER!" Xavier yelled at the top of his lungs.

"Your Majesty, I will go in with the guards who took in the three maids. I will question their whereabouts in detail. Maybe they know or saw something that can lead to the princess's disappearance." Hansol suggested.

Xavier sighed and nodded.

After a while of searching, a guard yelled.

"Your Majesty! The princess's balcony door was wide open! There's also this bag I found on the floor. After investigating its contents, it had a few imperial jewels. However, the quality of the bag appears to belong to a commoner. My theory was that she might have been kidnapped by a common assassin or highly skilled thief." explained to the guard as Xavier made his way to the room.

"No one from Giodivonia would ever kidnap her. My only enemy is the south. those dog faced bastards are responsible." Xavier responded in a calm yet threatening tone.
