Even though the contract offer was enticing who knew what kind of troubles I would get into taking up this offer. But before I could decide anything I wanted to ask something.
"Why did you choose me of all people, it could've been anyone else in the middle class or lower class?" I was genuinely curious about the answer although I had my own hunch as to why. Nah there's no way, I blew it off hoping it wasn't the answer.
"Well to be blunt you are the only middle-lower class person I know". Those words hit me right in the heart. "Oh but you're also pretty smart", although those words had cheered me up a little bit the fact that I was only chosen for this role was just because I was the only person who fit the criteria that she knew.
"Can I have more information? Like what I have to help you with?" I ignored the pain and inquired more into the contract. After all I couldn't just blindly sign a contract without knowing what it entails.
"Depends on what you want to know, but the main reason I'm asking you in the first place is because I'm trying to achieve something, I can't tell what it is I'm trying to achieve, but it's something that will make me better off in the future" Nao said as she pushed hair back behind her ears once again.
I though about what to do but the information given was to little and if I had to be honest this whole contract had been oozing suspicion. "Can I have some time to think about it? I'm still unsure of what I'm getting into, heck I don't even know how I'm supposed to help you in getting to know lower class people better." I said and sighed, Nao looked at me with a hint of disappointment that quickly disappeared.
"Alright but don't leave me hanging for to long" Nao said then smiled with hints of disappointment reappearing on her face.
"Sure" I told her feeling a little guilty knowing that I was most likely not going accept this contract even if it gave me good money.
After a long awkward moment of them both sitting in silence, Lea walked in and gave two cups of coffee to us.
"We didn't order anything?" Nao asked confused. Lea looked at us and smiled.
"It's on the house, seems like the conversation you two are having is pretty serious so I'll leave now." She said then turned around and left.
After taking a sip of the coffee and realized that I wasn't looking forward to going back to the dorm. Nao saw my face and asked " you okay?" I snapped out of it and looked at Nao.
"Oh I just don't really like my dorm mate.." I said then sighed. Nao looked at me with concern.
"Isn't she the one that partly cause your sleep deprivation the other day?" Nao asked with a hint of anger.
"Huh, yea.. how did you know?" April asked confused.
"Oh, Lana told me and Mika when you were sleeping" Nao said smiling as she remembered the events that transpired.
"Uh… could you please just forget that I fainted" April said as she covered her face as she could tell her face was burning up.
Nao laughed and then looked at me somewhat seriously, " This is what I wanted to talk about, so if you have anything you want to do you are free to go." She said as she looked out one of the windows.
"Well, I don't really have anything I need to do, and I don't particularly want to go back to my dorm…" I said as I took my hand off my face.
"Then do would you want to continue hanging out with me? It wouldn't hurt to know you better, especially if you do decide to sign the contract." Nao said with a tiny smirk.
"Uhm.. if that's alright with you I'll take you up on that offer, but I still haven't decided on that contract" I nervously smiled back.
The rest of the day was fun April took me out sightseeing the rest of the town, albeit saying it was a trial run for if I signed the contract. A little before curfew had been set April took me back to the dorms. In all honesty the idea of signing the contract wasn't looking like like a bad idea, but something about the way Nao had described the contract didn't feel right to me. I mean why would you want a girl to help you get to know the "middle class" in a modern day society where basically everything is obtainable via the internet.
As I was about to enter my dorm room not wanting to deal with my oh so great roommate, my phone started to ring. I decided to pick it up away from the dorm room. By the time I answered I was a good distance from the dorm room and I was standing in a dark seemingly empty hallway.
"Hello is this April Meyers." The lady on the phone asked in a concerning tone. " Uhm yes I am April?" I asked quizzically. "I have called to inform you that your mother has been admitted to the hospital".
