Chapter 1 - Prologue

Prologue

"And I know pronounce you, husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." He lifted up the vail, his eyes shone in a different light. He's happy, and I am happy for him. The bride looked at him eith so much love and adoration, and I bet he had the same look in his eyes. He is in love with her.

The long dress I wore reached my ankles, my Louboutins peeking at me. I was here today as the Bride's maid of honor. Of course I would be, it was my best friend getting married today.

He moved closer, his lips met the Bride's. Everyone in the church screamed in delight as we witnessed the beautiful wedding of my best friend: Rosalynn was dressed in a beautiful off-shoulder white gown that accentuated her features even more. The bodice was covered in lace downwards, her deep collarbones were highlighted, her hips were snugged tightly by the fabric. She looked like an absolute angel.

The wedding came to an end as we all head to the reception, the reception was held in a grand hotel. Newly weds made their way down the grand stairs. "Rosie, I am so happy for you that no words can explain how. You are the greatest best friend a woman can ask for, you were there for me in the most tough times and until today, I'm still figuring out how to repay you. Though not by blood, you are my sister. I hope Caesar treasures you, I hope he can treat you the way you deserve to be treated. And to Caesar, just agree with everything she says when you argue, you'll thank me later that you don't get your balls cut off." The crowd laughed, Caesar gave me a playful glare as I ended my speech.

I went back to my assigned seat, I was in a table with my closest friends. Zahir, my boy best friend was seated next to me. His arm was wrapped around my shoulders as I leaned onto his chest, seeking warmth. Zahir and Rosalynn were both my bestest of friends, our fathers in the same line of business. We were once told that we were the most unbreakable trio.

Everyone was having fun dancing on the dance floor, the colorful lights shone on everyone. Zahir ditched me a long time ago to go dance, leaving me all alone in our table. I pre-occupied myself by watching everyone having fun. Their faces plastered with smiles as they all danced, some were making out, some were totally fucking with clothes on, but nonetheless they were all happy.

But that's when I saw him. Stavros Ciasphar Koenig was staring at me with his beautiful deep forest green eyes. A menacing smile made it's way onto his lips, tormenting me even more as he licked his bottom lip. His eyes were cold and cruel, I avoided his gaze.

I knew I did wrong, I thought I could tame fire by playing with it. Stavros Koenig was a man I once loved, but that love is long forgotten the second he didn't show up at the altar. I was at fault to. I played with fire recklessly hoping that I wouldn't burn.

I stood up from my place and made my way towards the bathroom.

I washed my hands, wanting to wash off my makeup as well but Rosie's sister spent a really long time doing it so I decided not to. I dried off my hands with a tissue. Making my way out while throwing the used tissue paper in the trash.

A calloused hand held my elbow, harshly pulling me back. "Going somewhere, liebe?" My eyes were met with Ciasphar's cold glare. "You think you can run away, hmm?" He taunted me.

I glared at him with my own set of cold menacing eyes. "Áse me na fýgo."

"Oh! you're going all greek on me now, huh?" He mocked. I tugged on my arm, attempting get free of this wacko. "Eípa, epitrépste mou na fýgo! eísai gamiméno?!" I tugged harder but he was just too strong.

"Don't wait until I go all german on you, Elixir." He gave me a sarcastic smile as he mocked me for speaking in my mother tongue. I glared at him harder, I was fuming in anger. He stared at me with an equal amount of anger and... frustration?

"Well congra—" his lips pressed on mine, I felt my knees slowly melting. He knew this was my weakness and he's using it against me. He kissed me harder, hungrily and desperately. His hand was kept firmly at my waist. he titled my head, gaining more access to kiss me. A small moan came from me as I felt him tugged on my hair. I was drunk on his kisses.

He took that as an advantage as he tangled his tongue with mine, dueling for dominance.

My senses came to me all in a snap. I placed my hands on his chest, pushing him away. His chest heaved up and down from the lack of oxygen. My knees almost weakened at the sight of him.

He looked good, more than he ever did before.

"Stay away." I plead. "Just leave me alone."

His head cocked to the side, his eyes scanning for any emotion. My poker faced facade seemed to trick him. A sigh escaped his lips. I avert my gaze towards the floor. All when his hand gently caressed my arm, lifting it from it's former position.

"Mei—" his words were cut short by a man passing by.

His hand fell as he stood straighter. His eyes were as cold as ice. Face void of any emotion. He looked numbed. As quick as the flash, he did that all at once. I don't know if it is possible, but I felt my heart crack.

I knew what he was going to say, he wanted to explain. Unfortunately for him, I no longer have the heart to hear his honey-like woos.

"I don't know what it meant to you, Stav." My breathe shook, "But to me— that night. It meant everything, more than it ever could to a person. I waited, I waited in hopes you would show up. The guests were starting to mock me but, I stayed." I regard at him, one last time.

Turning my heel as I left him stoned. Each step I took, my heart burned more. The further I was from him, tears started to pool. I know my sins, I choose to face them. But, having him in front of me, right now and looking as mad as before... I'm reminded once again.

Who knew Chasing Pavements weren't worth it.
