I stood in the same place for a few more minutes when Anvis left, drowning in my own blank thoughts.
I wished Hunter was never there. Because of him I'm in this position. I can't train. I can't walk without feeling pain.
What the hell was he doing there?
"Hey Skyler."
I didn't even have to turn around to know bile was already building up in my mouth. I knew that horrible voice anywhere.
"There's this training tomorrow and I thought you...Oh yes that's right. You can't come because you're injured. Such a shame."
Devin.
Your local idiot and hater since day one. Devin has had something against me from the very start.
I'm not sure if the reason being was because he got embarrassed in front of my father's men when they were looking for younger boys to recruit and didn't pick him.
He had to wait another year to try out. That was because of me.
I kicked his butt all the way to next week in front of them because he was rude. But that happened years ago. He should've gotten past it.
"Hey Redhead." I saw his ugly smirk falter.
He hated being called that. Well, score one for Skyler. I started to walk away, leaving him behind but he followed.
"You're just about as useless as an injured horse." He snickered.
I didn't have to look at him to know even with his five foot nine frame I could easily deck him, even with my injury.
It wouldn't be the first time anyway.
I'd just wait till he got close enough, turn around and lock my arm around his neck. Devin wasn't the strongest but he also wasn't the weakest. And plus, the guy was as thick as a brick.
I ignored him and walked past the white trees, leaving prints in the snow to get back to the palace. No one else was around and I wondered if he had heard the conversation between Anvis and I.
Where did he come from anyway?
I still heard him and his stupid remarks behind my back, continuing like a yapping puppy. If the pain in my oblique was a person, it would be him.
I couldn't take it anymore.
"What do you want, Devin?" I spun around and faced him.
He held a spear in his hand but no catch. He must've gone hunting. No luck there for him.
Surprise didn't show on my face; He was always a lousy hunter.
"I saw you and wanted to see how pathetic you are now. Bet you wouldn't be able to defend yourself from a squirrel."
I really started to get irritated by this twat. "Like you were when I beat your sad ass not so long ago? Remember that? I'm still very capable of it."
Fear flashed through his eyes and he took a step back involuntarily.
𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦.
"Watch your back, Scott. One day, you'll be sorry." The words left his mouth like venom.
Devin didn't take a second longer to look at me and walked away.
"Ah huh." I could have yawned at that moment.
Who was this guy kidding? See the fear in my eyes? Exactly.
Walking towards the palace again, Devin's empty threat was already forgotten.
