Chapter 35 - Marry...?

After Torres climbed down from the tree, Ivan took a moment to explain the situation regarding his daughter's well-being. He shared all the details with Torres, ensuring he understood the gravity of the circumstances. Torres expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ivan for rescuing him and, most importantly, saving his daughter's life.

"It's okay, Mr. Torres. I did what I felt was right," Ivan replied with a smile, trying to ease any lingering worry. "However, I must advise you to be cautious. It would be best to avoid White Tiger City or make changes to your appearance so that you won't be recognized from the wanted poster."

Ivan and his group nodded in agreement, showing their support for this course of action. They understood the risks involved and wanted to help Torres protect himself and his daughter.

"If you stay away from White Tiger City, it will lower the chances of encountering any trouble with the authorities. Changing your appearance could also make it harder for them to identify you," Ivan explained, emphasizing the importance of taking preventive measures.

Torres expressed his gratitude once again, feeling a sense of relief and reassurance in Ivan's words. "Thank you, Ivan. I truly appreciate what you've done for me and my daughter. I will do as you have said."

'Hm? Where's the Battle skill?'

'Oh!' Ivan nodded his head in understanding.

"We need to leave now. This forest holds more dangers than just wolves," Kyle interjected, reminding everyone of the potential threats lurking in the area.

Kyle's words resonated with Ivan, and Thea agreed, emphasizing the urgency of their departure. She turned to Torres and asked, "Which way is your village, Mr. Torres? We'll accompany you there and ensure your safety."

"Just Torres is fine, Miss Thea," Torres replied quickly, preferring a more casual address. "My village isn't far from here."

With Torres leading the way, Ivan and the group escorted him toward his village. As they approached the village, they noticed a group of individuals dressed in black riding away on horses in the western direction. Ivan's heart sank as he recognized them—they were the Blacktooth Bandits, the same group he and Naina had narrowly escaped from the day before.

Torres became visibly anxious upon seeing the bandits exiting the village gates. Once the bandits were out of sight, Ivan, Torres, and their group cautiously made their way toward the village gates.

Behind the wooden walls, Ivan spotted both familiar and unfamiliar faces. They had noticed Ivan's group, or more specifically, Torres among them. Reacting swiftly, the villagers rushed to open the gates even before Ivan and his companions were within ten steps of the entrance.

Grant stepped out of the gates, relieved to see Torres unharmed. "Torres, my friend, thank goodness you're alright," he said with genuine concern. He then turned to Ivan, puzzled by their presence. "Ivan, what are you doing here-"

"Grant, he and his friends saved me," Torres interrupted, wanting to acknowledge Ivan's heroism. "I'll explain everything later, but first, tell me why the bandits were here."

Grant's expression turned grim as he explained, "They were here to demand the usual 'protection fees'. But don't worry, Ivan helped us with that too. He had left some money with your wife, Sarah before he left the village. We used that and some of our food reserves to pay the fees they demanded."

Torres felt a mixture of relief and gratitude towards Ivan and his group. "Thank you, Ivan, and thank you all," he said, addressing the entire group accompanying Ivan. "Your help and support have been invaluable. I can't express how grateful I am."

Ivan nodded humbly. "I'm glad I could assist, Torres."

Grant, visibly appreciative of Ivan's efforts, added, "Indeed, Ivan has been a great help."

"Torres, honey!" Sarah exclaimed, rushing forward with their daughter, Eva, as soon as she heard of his arrival.

Torres's face lit up with joy as he saw his wife and daughter running towards him. He embraced them tightly, relieved to see them safe and sound. "Sarah, Eva! I missed you both so much," he said, his voice filled with love and relief.

Tears welled up in Sarah's eyes as she held Torres tightly. "We were so worried about you, Torres. I'm grateful that you're back," she whispered, her voice filled with a mix of emotions.

Eva, their young daughter, looked up at her father with wide eyes, her face beaming with happiness. "Daddy, you're home! I knew you'd come back," she exclaimed, wrapping her small arms around Torres's leg.

Torres kneeled down and hugged Eva, his heart overflowing with love for his family. "I promised you I would, didn't I? And nothing could keep me away from you," he said, his voice filled with determination and affection.

Sarah wiped away her tears and expressed her gratitude to Ivan and his group. "Thank you all for bringing Torres back safely and for the assistance you provided. We are forever grateful for your help," she said, her voice filled with heartfelt appreciation.

Ivan nodded, acknowledging her words. "You're welcome, Sarah. We're glad we could help reunite your family and ensure Torres's safe return," he replied, his expression reflecting his sincerity.

Realizing the urgency of their departure, Ivan addressed Torres and Sarah once more. "It's time for us to take our leave now. We must return to the city before sunset. Take care of your family and your village," he advised, his tone filled with concern.

Ivan's eyes met Eva's, and he couldn't help but smile at the young girl. "And Eva, you take care too," he added warmly, appreciating the innocent curiosity in her gaze.

As the group was about to depart, Eva, with her innocent face and voice, suddenly exclaimed, "Fairy, Fairy, Papa, it's the fairy! He kissed me last night. When will we get married?"
