CHAPTER SEVEN

The pill case fell from Alec's hand and was crushed under the feet of a monster. Jet jumped up and gave a spinning kick towards the one nearest him but he was the one that was sent flying. He crushed towards a pile of broken woods and his back arched in pain.

"Shit!" he shouted as he jumped back to his feet. "Shit! Shit! Shit!"

He picked up two planks of wood and threw one over to Alec who caught it and slammed it down towards the monster reaching for him. That one fell down to the floor but Alec was still surrounded. He started to run towards him but two monsters blocked his way.

Jet jumped up and slammed his own wood down the head of one and as he dropped to the ground he swept the feet of the other. He picked up his wooden stick and pushed it down hard on the chest of the monster. Blood splattered and Jet flinched as it hit his face.

As he stood up once more, it was too late. Alec coughed up blood as a monster stabbed him in the stomach with its hands. Everything seemed to be in slow motion as Jet watched Alec fall to his knees; holding on to his wound. But—even without proper medical knowledge, Jet knew he was dying with the amount of blood he was seeing.

In fear, Jet ripped his earphones off his ears. As soon as he did, a strong, invisible force assaulted his mind and he found it hard to breathe. His eyes darkened as he felt something cool dripped from his ears and he slowly fell to his knees.

The pain was indescribable. He wanted to die. But as soon as that thought crossed his mind, the sight of Alec falling to the floor flashed in his mind and he fought through the haziness. He stood up and released a strong wind that blew the monsters away as he rushed towards Alec.

His breathing heavy, he covered Alec's wound with his hands and looked at the eyes of the man who treated him like family.

"I'm fine," Alec breathed. "Damn kid put your earphones back,"

"Don't lie!" Jet answered angrily.

Alec shook his head and slowly sat up, his lips and chin covered in blood. "I'm really fine, kid,"

"I'm not a kid, damn it, Alec! You don't have to lie!"

Alec laughed at him. "Are you worried, Jet? That's—" he coughed more blood and Jet put more pressure on his wound. "That's a first for you,"

The monsters recovered and were making their way towards them. Ignoring his own head-splitting pain, Jet started to grip Alec and carried him up. As he was slowly making their way out, Alec removed his own earphones.

"Are your shoes made of rubber, Jet?"

Jet nodded, unsure where Alec was going with his question. Alec removed one bloodied hand from his wound and closed his eyes. From the tips of his fingers, a small spark started until it grew bigger that Jet finally noticed. The electricity danced around his fingers and with a flick, it wreaked havoc all around them.

The monsters around them were electrified. A few dropped to the ground but Jet could see how Alec was having a hard time keeping his attack up. Even before all monsters surrounded; Alec's electricity ran out and he let out a bitter laugh.

"I rarely use it and now it failed me," he joked as he coughed up more blood. "I'm sorry, Jet,"

"If you're really sorry stay fucking awake," Jet shouted as he noticed Alec's eyelids getting heavy. "We need to get out of here or we'll die. This is my fault, Alec. I'm the one with the so-called combat sense yet I couldn't even fight properly,"

"It's. . . it's not you're. . . fault, kid," Alec said with another cough.

Jet carried an Alec that was fighting with consciousness but before they could reach the door, Jet fell down on the ground as his legs turned to jelly. Alec fell down beside him. He screamed as his head felt like it was being split into two.

The monsters that remained had trapped them in a circle. Jet shakily raised his hand and wind gushed out from his palm. Two monsters stumbled back but the rest held their ground.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Jet cursed as he continued to release his weakening wind. He looked around for any possible escape route.

Was there no help? Will no one come to their rescue? Would he die there with a guilty conscience of taking Alec's life with his?

Shit! Help us!

Alec's head rolled over as he lost consciousness as Jet fought to maintain his own. He crawled towards Alec and slapped him repeatedly. "Don't sleep! Don't you fucking sleep on me, Alec!"

"I—I'm," Alec muttered, unable to finish his sentence. "I don't think—,"

Suddenly, the murder of crows that were circling the building skydived towards them from the hole in the roof. They attacked and bit at the monsters; taking their attention off Jet and Alec. As soon as they did, they suddenly flew off. The monsters, growling, and groaning, tried to reach for them but they continued to fly up towards the roof.

Jet and Alec noticed a small shadow standing in the building next to the hole in the roof. Her white hair glinted from the moonlight as it danced before her and her crystal blue eyes seemed to shine in the dark. The murder of crows flew towards her and circled spirally around her in two lines.

Jet felt his hair raised in fear as a sudden strong aura surrounded them and the ground started to shake. The monsters in front of them screamed in agony as their bodies slowly dissolve as if they were being attacked by something.

And no sooner than the shadow appeared, all the monsters vanished as they turned to dust. The old building started shaking and dust started falling from the ceiling. Jet looked up and saw that it was falling apart. He pulled Alec back to his feet and they started walking towards the door. But—before they could reach it, the ceiling gave up and block of stones started falling.

Alec opened his eyes and he teleported them outside the building. As their feet landed, Alec fell to the ground. Jet managed to catch him as the whole building fell; covering them in the dust. He tried healing Alec but his simple healing wasn't doing anything. Alec's wound was too life-threatening for his ability.

Not to mention that he barely has any energy himself as the Freakquency continued to assault him.

A metallic taste entered his mouth as he started coughing blood. He had no idea what to do. They escaped the monsters but they were still dying.

"Jet—," he heard Alec groan. "Jet, look!"

Jet looked up and saw the shadow stumbling to the edge of the building. And without warning, fell headfirst to the ground.

"Quick! Catch her!" Alec ordered in a louder voice.

Jet let go of Alec as he jumped up and rushed towards the shadow and managed to catch her before she hit the ground. Unintentionally, he noticed that she was light—as if she weighed nothing. And if he had not seen her do her magic, he wouldn't have believed that such a strong power came from such a small girl. She looked so fragile and petite that it invoked a feeling of wanting to protect her from the world.

He slowly walked back towards Alec who was sitting on the ground, his back leaning into a stone slab. He knelt down in front of his friend, "I think this is the girl we're looking for, Alec. Same jacket, same scarf, and this bunch of platinum hair,"

Alec frowned. "She-she looks familiar,"

Reaching a bloodied hand, Alec gently removed the scarf that was covering half of the girl's face and his eyes widened in shock. Hands shaking, he reached for her. His lips were trembling as his eyes misted with tears.

Jet stared at his friend. Alec suddenly looked like the world had stopped falling on his despite that they were clearly dying. He reached for the girl in Jet's arms and laid a bloodied hand on the girl's left cheek. Jet watched as tears started falling down the strong man's eyes as he pulled the girl gently towards him and hugged her tightly.

Jet watched his friends back shaking as he cried holding the girl. He wanted to ask him what was happening but he couldn't seem to find his voice. The man he only knew as strong suddenly looked small and child-like as he cried his heart out.

Jet could hear cars stopped behind him but he hadn't turn around. He could kind of guess who it was. He felt a presence directly behind him and heard Clinton's voice asking him what happened, staring at Alec's crying figure, hugging an unfamiliar woman and the wreckage in front of him.

Without looking away from his partner, Jet answered, "a whole ground of homeless living here transforms into monsters,"

"How did you bring the whole place down?" Clinton asked in amazement as medic gave Jet a pill. Alec himself wasn't looking so good; considering that there was a small hole in his stomach.

"Not us," Jet answered. "That girl did,"

"Who is she?" Clinton asked as he helped Jet stand up.

Alec slowly stood up, carrying the unconscious girl in his arms and he turned to face them. "She's Alice. . . . My sister,"
