We ran to my room - more like those two, Jaden was dragging me by my shirt collar now. I could see the frustration in Jaden's face and anxiety in Nickie's . It made my lips to quiver in a small smile. Even if I couldn't really do anything to them, atleast they were taken aback by... well, i don't know what they were so worried about. There was no one in the halls except for us. Probably in classes. It made me wonder if these two ever went to their class. Weird.
Nickie walked up to my room and started to yank it open or something. Obviously I had locked it before Jaden took me to the auditorium. I'm not that dumb to let the intruder come in again, in case he'd decided to mess up my room a little more.
I jumped - or atleast tried to - when I heard a loud thud. I shook my head away from my thoughts and looked up at Nickie, who was vigorously kicking and pounding at my door.
"What the hell are you doing that for!" I yelled at her, "You're gonna break the door!"
She narrowed her eyes at me, "It won't open. What else do you expect me to do?"
I pulled free of Jaden's grip, rolling my eyes at her, "Here's an idea! Why don't you open it with a key?"
"I don't have one." She said, a-matter-of-factly, folding her arms.
"That's because this is my room." My words dripped with sarcasm.
Jaden smacked me on the head, for what felt like the millionth time, as he muttered, "Then open it already."
I glared at him, "I will if you tell me how the in the world did you know where I live in this seventy- floor building? My room could have been freaking anywhere. And I didn't even tell you where it is! Not even a hint." I exclaimed.
The two stayed quiet. Long enough to make me feel satisfied with myself. But it only lasted for five seconds before Jaden started laughing like a hysterical maniac. Nickie, leaning against the door, was snickering which only made me flush in embarrassment.
"What's so funny?" I gritted my teeth.
None of the two replied, but kept on laughing. I did not see what was that they were laughing at. My question wasn't even something to laugh at. When they didn't reply, I walked up to the door, Nickie stepping aside, took out my keys from my hoodie's pocket and unlocked it with a grunt. I felt like I might loose it at any second.
Without even asking my permission, they entered. I expected them to gasp with the books on the floor and my study desk cracked and my bed mattress totally out of shape. But I was the one in shock to see Nickie nod to Jaden ever so typically. As if they had expected this.
"Dude," Jaden sniggered, "I like how you organized everything."
"Easy for you to say," I grumbled, "I'm the one who's probably gonna be the one in trouble if I don't report this all soon. Not you."
Jaden grinned at Nickie who smiled back. Either they were on to something or that they had actually experienced this. How-?
"So where is it?" Nickie broke my thoughts, "Where's the book?"
I shrugged, "Probably somewhere on the floor."
"Then get it for us!" Jaden snapped.
Swearing under my breath, I rested my knees on the floor and started to dig through the piles of library books. My breath came out hard as I realized it wasn't here. It should be, but it wasn't. I turned to see Nickie placing the books back on the shelf. Jaden arranging My desk. I managed a small smile as a thank you to Nickie. I saw her look awkward as she smiled back. As if she wasn't used to smiling like she meant it. I bet my smile was as awkward as hers. Nobody really smiled like they meant it here. But she looked better with a smile then when she snarled.
After a while, searching I felt certain that the book's not here. It was obvious given that the room was completely clean, thanks to these two... Friends? Not sure.
"Where is it?!" I heard Jaden yell, tugging at his hair. "Where is it Harry?"
"I... don't know." My eyes were wide. Where the hell did I put it? "I'm sure it was here, the last time."
Jaden charged at me with anger, swinging me in the air by my shirt collar.
"Stop lying!" He barked, "Where is the book, Harry?"
I saw his eyes blood shot, and I tried helplessly to wriggle out of his grip.
"What are you doing ?!" I spat, "Leave me alone!"
"Jaden!" Nickie thundered, unexpectedly, " Leave him! We obviously saw this coming!"
"You're lucky my cousin made me stop." Jaden whispered, 'Or I swear-"
"Jaden!"
He stared back at Nickie, then looked back at me.
"Let go!" I hissed.
He did, literally. I fell on the floor and groaned. Just when I thought we could get along...
"No point to take out your anger on him." Nickie pointed at me as if I was a poor, miserable little child, desperate for help. Why are they here again?
"You know who did this." Nickie muttered, and Jaden nodded on agreement.
"But it's still his fault! He should have been more careful!" Jaden growled.
"You know it isn't. He didn't even know! The intruder obviously stole it!"
A long silence took over, and I squeezed my knees closer to my chest, wrapping my arms around them waiting for them to end this discussion. Waiting for them to get lost. They whispered some more suggestions to which Jaden huffed. After what seemed like a long time, Jaden nodded,
"Fine but he'll have to help us now since we're not in her good books." His tone was filled with disgust.
Nickie turned to look at me with regret in her eyes before saying, "He has to help us. There is no much of an option."
"I'm still here, you know.." I muttered under my breath.
Jaden sneered, walking to me, giving me a hand to lift me to my feet even when I didn't need any help.
Nervously scratching the back of his neck he said, quietly, "Sorry. or whatever..."
I didn't want to accept his apology, but you what? Who cares? He'd probably choke me to death if i say no. So, I shrugged.
He grinned, "Glad to hear that. We probably won't be able to escape without you anyway."
I gulped, did he just say escape? I was meaning to ask them that when Jaden had said it before.
"Did you just say escape?" I said.
Jaden's grin grew wider as Nickie explained, "The book. We don't care about that. But the folder inside the book. We need that. It had a map of the pipes below this building."
I scrunched my brows in confusion. "Where did you get a map from?"
Jaden threw his head into a laugh, "Like I said before. The way you borrow your books, that's how I borrow some other things."
I saw his smirk and instantly knew that by borrowing, he meant stealing. Nothing can get better then this. Note the irony?
"You need to go to Alex's office. She has the map. She somehow found out."
"And we'd worked so hard to take it!" Jaden complained like a baby.
Alex's office? Why her? Why're they blaming her?
As if she'd read my mind, Nickie said, "You'll see what she's done once you agree with us."
"But why me?" I inquired. "Can't you use someone else?"
Nickie shook her head, "It's gotta be you. We've seen how you go to her office so casually often. She knows you best, which means she trusts you."
I swallowed, "You want me to break someone's trust? That's your smart plan?"
"You're doing the right thing." Nickie said.
"How's that exactly?" I sneered.
Jaden's expression grew serious. "You know that man. And you won't be happy about what you find out."
"When?" I asked, scowling. They were getting me hooked up to this.
"Tonight. Three in the morning. Be there. sharp. I mean it, Harry." Nickie informed.
All i could do was nod. And watch them leave with another burden on my shoulders.
