Chapter 29 - Hell on Earth

Scorcher and Bumble Bee roll as fast as they could (without rousing suspicion) towards the British trench line, seeing the battle that was taking place. The British humans looked battered and worse for ware, hiding in their trenches as the Germans bombarded their positions. Scorcher surveyed the trenches, trying to spot anything that may stand out, but all he saw was death. Sighing, he turned and began to approach the battle. Bee followed closely.

"We need to blend in. Steel yourself, Bumble Bee." He said, his turrets facing No Man's Land towards the Germans.

"Of course. I don't really like this part, but it must be done." The Autobot replied, his turret swiveling to face the Germans as well. The two tanks rolled towards the British trenches, and William popped his head out of the hatch, shouting at some of the British.

"Oi, You lot need some fire power?" He shouted, catching the attention of some soldiers. The troops looked up, seeing the large tank towering over them in the trenches. Without reply, they began to move away, opening the path for the tank. William nods, closing the hatch and pressing onwards. The front of his tank tilts forward as he drives over the trench, the treads catching the other side and pulling across the trench. Bee has to drive carefully over a dug out tunnel as to not collapse the makeshift tunnel. The two vehicles pressed forward, drawing enemy fire on their position.

After they drove through artillery fire and concentrated rifle fire, the two aliens began to unleash on the enemy, scaring even the British with their brutality. Their cannons never seemed to miss, and their turrets had a deadly accuracy. They mowed down the Germans who popped out to shoot them, they shot the Germans who tried running away. They destroyed anti-tank cannons that were busy adjusting their aim, and dug outs, causing great explosions of dirt to rise into the sky.

After clearing that sector of the German trench, the two began to roll along the line, unleashing hell on the humans that were within. As they cleared the line, British soldiers who had steeled their nerves rushed forward, taking the recently cleaned trench. Scorcher and Bee held nothing back, and no one questioned how these two tanks survived that whole assault, especially that light tank which should have been decimated by the anti tank guns.

Suddenly the two were enveloped in smoke, causing them to pause. They hadn't asked for cover, and it seemed like this came from the direction of the Germans. Scorcher then began to feel a strange tingle, and recognized that this was no normal smoke.

It was a yellowish brown.

Scorcher then watched as the British soldiers quickly ran out of the trenches they had just taken, some succumbing to the poisonous air. He then saw through the cloud a swarm of replacement soldiers, all wearing masks that covered their whole face. He then saw a strange looking vehicle following the soldiers, one with a large canister on the back, seeping the same gas. The wind was blowing towards the British, so eventually the Germans would take that trench line and cause an opening in the British line.

Scorcher took this moment, shrouded in the poisonous gas to transform, slamming a fist into the dirt. Some of the Germans marching through the gas stopped in terror, but others turned to that gas vehicle, screaming in their language at the vehicle in panic. Scorcher did not quite understand why, but he had to deal with this poison. He pulled out his revolver and fired, causing some of the soldiers to be scattered as they were sent into the air.

Scorcher was caught off guard when a purple laser scratched his face, sending him reeling. Bee hopped out and checked Scorcher before turning to the Gas vehicle, seeing that there was a Cybertronian weapon on the top of the vehicle. The thing then began to transform, revealing that he was a Decepticon.

"Look at this? The great and mighty Scorcher, felled with a pathetic neutron assault rifle." It spoke, the Germans still standing running away as their gas vehicle grew arms and legs, a hideous face belching that noxious gas protruding from where the driver's cabinet was. "Lord Megatron would be ashamed to have been working along side you." Scorcher looked up towards the Con that was about the same height as Bee, not recognizing him. If he had to guess, he was a minion of Shockwave, that damned egotistical counterpart to Soundwave. "Do you feel weak, traitor? That's because this chemical contains some Dark Energon, which is why you feel off."

Scorcher shook his head, raising his revolver and taking aim at the tank that was the Con's torso. He blasted it, causing a huge hole to form and more of the gas spewing out. The Con simply laughed as the area filled with more poisonous gas, spreading across the battlefield. "Did you think it's be that easy?" It shouted, raising its weapon to unleash a barrage on Bee. The Autobot dodged, the shots flying past the trenches and into the sky, hopefully to fall into the Atlantic. Bee retaliated by firing his blaster at the Con's leg, dealing some damage and causing it to fumble. It cursed as more gas filled the land, and Scorcher knew something had to be done to stop this pollution. He got up and pulled out his sword, raising it high and slicing off the Con's arm.

Fluid gushed from the fresh wound and the bot fell to its back, struggling under Scorchers foot. It tried hitting Scorcher off, but he simply thrusted his sword into the Con's head, the gas ceasing to emit from his body. The gas that was already out still lingered, however, slowly dissipating into nothingness. He sheathed his blade and absorbed the body of the Con, while Bee absorbed the dismembered arm. Both looked rather larger than before; Scorcher threatened to rise above the miasma that covered them and Bee looked stronger, his limbs taking a more muscular shape.

"Quick, let's shift back and help get rid of these Germans." Scorcher said, transforming back into his tank form. Bee followed soon after, both of their vehicle forms appearing different as well, with Scorcher having two new cannons and Bee's armor looking thicker. The two tanks returned to the British line, mowing down the Germans who had been with the Decepticons.

The humans, at least the Germans, knew of their existence, but Scorcher wasn't sure if there were more the Germans knew about.

Back at the British line, two 8-inch howitzers sat in the cloud of the chemical attack. Both had shifted in the dirt to focus on the fight that had taken place, and both were unmanned. Each of the cannons slowly rotated back to their original positions, and small metal limbs scrapped the mud to hide the fact that they had moved.
