Chapter 35 - Unselfish

You gladly turn around and walk toward Helena's bed to check on her. As you walk through the tent, you notice that there's only one bed open and it's the bed next to Nick. The same one you were in just yesterday. You can't be close to him right now and in the tired state you're in, can only spell trouble for you. You find a comfortable chair close to the ICU department and start to make yourself comfortable.

It doesn't take you long to fall asleep after the day you had. You know that Nick is close by and that you aren't alone. Nothing will stop you from sleeping right away.

NICK'S POINT OF VIEW

Something inside him is very happy because he got to see you and you are staying the night. He wants to make sure that you're safe after today you had. He has a strong desire to protect you from any harm. He never felt these feelings with Helena but then he can also argue that Helena is a soldier and can take care of herself. Though the feeling that he has to protect you overwhelms his logical reasoning and there's not much he can do to change it.

He waits a few minutes for you, wondering where you would sleep for the night. He sees the bed next to him is open and no other beds. When you are nowhere to be seen, he decides to investigate. Should he run into you, he would just say he's on his way to the bathroom.

He stands up and feels pain in his leg from the wound. It's not as severe as earlier in the day but he still doesn't show any pain to anyone. He walks further into the tent then he sees you sleeping on a chair. He slowly walks closer to you and the smell of lavender consumes him.

Every moment of the alluring kiss you shared earlier this afternoon fills his thoughts. He stands a few feet away from you and then he sees every beautiful detail that's you. Your long blond locks of hair lays over your cheek. Your long black lashes rest peacefully together but it's your lips that bring him to his knees. He remembers the soft touch of your full luscious lips pressing against his own. He can still taste the sweet desirable flavor you so seductively shared with him.

He has to physically shake his head to get the thoughts of you out of his mind. He walks closer to you and lightly touches your shoulder, whispering to you.

"Kim…"

KIM'S POINT OF VIEW

You find yourself in a dream state where the attacker is holding you against his chest. You can smell his sweat and feel his hairy arm around your waist. You try to scream but your mouth seems to be shut not by a cloth or ducktape but by your skin growing over your mouth. You're completely paralyzed and there's no way out.

"KIM!"

You jump awake and see Nick kneeling next to you, trying to wake you. You breathe heavily and feel yourself shaking.

"Nick…"

He stares at you and sees that you're shaking.

"Are you okay?"

You hear the concern in his voice. The truth is, you're not okay and you want him to hold you again. You want to feel the safety he brings when he holds you in his strong arms.

"I'm okay, just had a bad dream, that's all"

"What did you dream about?"

"Oh, well…uhm…what are you doing out of bed?"

He frowns as if he doesn't understand what you're asking him.

"What do you mean? I don't care about that now. Please tell me about your dream, please"

He looks deep into your soul with his blue eyes and you can't help it anymore. You can't hide from him anymore. You want to fall into him and lose yourself completely.

"I dreamt about…about the attacker…and how he…how he held me tight…" You can't hold it back anymore and start to cry.

NICK'S POINT OF VIEW

He's kneeling before you after he tried to wake you up with a whisper but then he heard you having a nightmare and you tried to scream. He's entire being filled with concern for you and then you start to tell him about your nightmare. He can't help feeling every feeling with you and when you started to cry, every defense that he worked so hard to put up again after your kiss, just fell away in an instant.

He can't stop his actions at this point and he lifts you into a hug. He feels as your crying turns into soft sobbing against his chest.

"It's okay….everything is okay now…I'm here, it's okay…I promise"

He lifts your head from his chest holding his hands on the sides of your face. He puts a lost strand of hair behind your ear and then he sees your wound were the attacker hit you with his gun.

"Kim, you didn't look after yourself yet? You looked after everyone except yourself?"

He frowns again and slowly let you sit back down on the chair.

"You wait here for me, okay?"

"I'm fine really, I'm okay-"

He stops you with a single touch of his fingers on your mouth.

"Please, please just wait here, will you?"

KIM'S POINT OF VIEW

You feel the touch of his fingers on your mouth and your entire being aches for him. You feel a flush of desire shoots through you and you can't trust yourself to speak. You only nod as he walks away putting a lot of pressure on his good leg. He doesn't take long and returns with a few bandages and alcohol wipes.

"I can do that-"

"Kim, just please let me do this for you. This is the least I can do for you after you saved almost everyone on base. Please….I beg of you…"

You see the seriousness in his eyes and that there's no way that you're going to talk him out of helping you.

"Okay, sure, Nick"

He then kneels before you. You can see the pain in his eyes as his leg is experiencing some intense pain and you also know very well, what kind of pain he's going through.

"Nick, please, please just stand up. Can you sit on the chair and then I'll get into the right position for you to help me?"

He shakes his head, giving a small smile. "Fuck, Kim. How do you do that?"

You look confused at him not understanding what he's saying. "I'm sorry, I don't understand. What do you mean?"

NICK'S POINT OF VIEW

He feels as if he's fighting every last fiber in his entire being not to grab you and hold you tight in his arms just giving his everything to you. He's not used to someone caring so much about everyone around them and not even giving a minute to themselves. He's never been someone you need to fuss about. Even when he was a little boy, he was on his own and when he got hurt he just let it pass as if nothing out of the ordinary happened. His mom loved him but never really cared a lot about him.

Now you go and ask him if he would like to sit so he can feel better. Never has he ever had someone care about him so much. He can't help the words escaping his mouth. He just needs to know how a being like you operates and where is the end of your kindness. Then to top it all, you don't even know how spectacular you are.
