When you think of something and you want or expect it to happen, it happens. Mike had always thought that he and Julia might be connected in other ways even though Julia already had a soulmate back then and Mike was told that he would never get a soulmate.
With that, the man still believed that he had a significant other somewhere in this crowded universe and when he met Julia, he believed that was her.
Even when Julia and Mike broke up, he never gave up. Mike believed that the universe finally saw him fit for the soulmate bond and this was his reward for staying loyal to someone that didn't even know about his feelings.
In the end, Mike found out that the universe was indeed on his side in this one and had gifted him with a bond that would come with a family.
